too noisy and crowded and misses the zeitgeist and timeliness of the original. It is time for someone else to take this song and make it something completely new. Someone like Tori Amos, William Orbit, Toni Bennett, someone REALLY unlikely.... or we can let it go as a fond memory and leave it alone...
Personally, I love this version... the others sound kinda flat to me now because this was the first I ever heard. This one's a beast, totally a blaster. :-)
Love the original version but must say this version kicks - as I am into guitars and those that play them this is definitely a keeper thanks for posting
Love it when musicians put some effort, thought, and creativity to make a song instead of the cookie cutter material dominating the 90's and 00's. Nice difference for a change. Good theme, hell-of-a bridge; love it, love it. Excellent transition to an interlude then brake out into the driving guitar. Damn, this is a loaded song with a good sound. Reminds me of the 80's and 70's when groups spent the time to create music instead of copying soundtracks to sell for easy money.
Thanks for the fresh cut ... Glad to see you are still kicking ass !
You have more talent in your pinky finger than all the jealous trolls and "never-were" haters, combined. And ... yer still hot ! Loved you then. Love you now.
@LenaDelovely : I agree. I like the 'happy medium' of the US release; not too heavy (like this heavy metal version) and not too 'keyboardy' like the euro version. It had the right amount of guitar/keyboard mix. Just my op.
@tatian08 : read a bit more carefully next time. I didn't say they were 'Americans'. I said "I like the 'American' release version of this song. The European release was more keyboad/synth club oriented, while the US (or 'American' in other words) release was more heavy guitar oriented. Bands do this to maximize sales in specific parts of the globe which may have varying preferences.
@BiologicalUnit2380 Here, here. The "US Mix" is better than the European/Original release version (commonly known as "The Pop Mix"). It has grittier guitars and harder beats. This third recyled version is a bit lame though and I don't even think that different to the original OR US mixes so really a bit pointless. Come on, Republica. New material please!
It's not really the third time... there were just the two mixes back when they were new. The original mix wouldn't have gone over well in North America where we apparently got over our love affair with Depeche Mode and all synth music since is associated with clubs for gay people and/or goths. Much to my chagrin.
This is the soundtrack to my childhood. I like the little kick they gave it here it's actually pretty decent to listen to (I'm loving the guitars) but the original will always be the best for me :)
To be fair, it's a truly great single. I mean GREAT as in many many many fantastic bands write and play for decades and never accomplish that ONE song that becomes ubiquitous with a movement or with a period in time the way this song is. Republica probably wasn't a great band (Especially in the context of the 90's alternative which was immense) but they struck lightening in a bottle and they deserve the credit for doing so.
@camhottylover right? funny thing is is that this song doesn't get old. i heard some younger kids listening to it. i remember sitting in front of my 34 foot cabinet sized TV(lul oldschool tvs ftw) watchin MTV and seeing the video to it for the 1st time and wanting to kiss that chick. ahh i miss the 90s
Republica was a two-hit wonder - check out "Drop Dead Gorgeous". It's equally impressive.

A great one-hit wonder song. Republica were great but they just sort of dissappeared.

Saffron has got a bit grittier over time. I like it! She can really sink her teeth into it now.
It's a heavy tune, guitar prominent, and deserving of a beefier vocal. Nice job, Republica!

I like them both, personally. Considering how pop/rock has changed, I think it's a lot edgier. And - it's their music, let them do what they want.
