What a shitty thing to happen, these men had 7 years of their lives taken away, and before they may not have bore any ill will towards the US, now I wouldn't be surprised if they join a jihadist group. Nobody wins thanks to the overzealous 'Justice' Department.
Do you think we are just pulling random people out of the sand and torturing them? It's not like these prisoners aren't there for a reason. I'm sure they'd love to do the same right back to you and potentially will. We have every right, as the occupying force, to force our will upon them for our own safety. They have what rights we say they have.
When are they going to charge the "brave" military and militias who have killed many innocent civilians? Pillaging has been disguised as righteousness (again).

Also, there is difference between saying that the government had no evidence, and saying that the government had no evidence *that it could use in open court without revealing vital intelligence gathering sources & methods.*
Here's the problem: Now they probably will want to attack us, since we locked them up for years with no evidence, and probably bombed their whole families. If these people attack us, it's no fault but our own.

If I wasn't a terrorist and you held me without due process for 7 years for no reason, I'd sure as hell be a terrorist when you let me out. I wouldn't blame em one tiny little bit if they signed up with al Qaeda tomorrow.
Why does Congress and Obama let Bush get away with it? Perhaps they should read
Article 1, section 8 - - Powers of Congress:
To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and Make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water; To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces; To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States,...
You ought to hear the story about the 87 year old Afghani who was in Gitmo for 5 years, no evidence against him, he was given to US by fellow Afghanis desperate for the reward money offered. US accepted these people as enemies with no evidence. This man has diabetes and a heart condition and is 87 and was tortured by young US marines in Gitmo. That's just one case.
As much as I hate Bush and as much as I am rejoicing the end of his regime, I think it's IMPORTANT to remember that he was one man, a figurehead. He represents his administration of course but we don't live in a dictatorship, their were people in collusion on both sides of the aisle to pull off these criminal acts against the world's population. My hats off to TYTs for their reporting.
So, wait. Let me get this straight. Cenk wants to give rights to EVERYBODY now????? Not just rich white men?? This is America buddy. We just don't roll that way.
Your ignorant, there are no such things as terrorists. "Terrorism"and the "war on terror" is propaganda perpetuated by a ruling class with a vested interest in taking away our civil liberties, ie the patriot act, and homeland security. Ur just saying this guys a 'rag head' because your ignorance has inevitably led to hatred of a contrived enemy. Think about it your being manipulated, so think before you open ur mouth lapdog.
For all those who make bad comments and assume that all of these people are guilty....just think about the government hearing that there were some klansmen in your neighborhood plotting on Obama, and then they come in and arrest all the men that fit the profile of a klansmen, they checked your comments on YouTube and although you did not make any actions you seemed to support the Klansmen against Obama so they held you indefinately in a Harlem jail....would you still make these comments? think!!
I was wrong on the data, but only partially. One released detainee blew himself up in Iraq about six months ago. The other released detainee blew himself up in the FATA of Pakistan.
If you can't find the information by googling, I suggest you should blow your own self up.
does ne1 remember that tom cruise movie from a few years back.. it was set in the future n there were like psychics or something who predicted future crimes n they started arresting ppl before they could commit the crimes... thats just like this!
preventive methods my good man...they could have just as easily killed then again how much of the truth do EITHER of us know so lets all just shut out f*cking mouths now no?....
We tried fighting al-queda like a criminal prosecution but that was a complete failure under the Clintion administration. Clinton was offered Osama but Clintion turned them down because "there was no evidence of wrongdoing". Then about 4 years later we had 911.
timbosforporn: OMG!!! You have no concern for liberty. The people were held FOR NOTHING! And all you can talk about is "they might have done something". Republican must continue to be voted out of office! We started the revolution in 2006, continued in 2008, and we will finish removing these warmongers in 2010 and 12.
keep up the good work guys..I prefere tyt on any other "news" biased show...bush and his administration wont get any cnviction..its impossible..but he will appear on the book, as the worst president ever..even worst than nixon...
Let me tell you what is going on in UK and US. When John Walker Lindh was captured, he was sent to a civil court in the US. Lindh knew and fought with Bin Laden. The white man gets a civil trial. Khalid Sheik studied in US but was sent to Gitmo.
I am not judging white people and I now know after the election that the majority of whites are decent. But G-Bay is the place for coloured suspects only. 90 days without trial law is in the UK and only coloured people are detained. Go figure!!
You all like to cop it all on bush but 46,000,000 americans STILL voted for mccain and in essence to keep this atrocity going. Then you wonder why people wanna fly planes into your buildings.
They learned how to deal with this after the Lee Harvey Oswald. When you have "patsies" you have to shut them down, but it might be better later if you do not cut down. So these boys are on ice as suspected terrorists.
....and a society that willingly and with forethought, tortures others can not call itself civilized can it? ... really .... now be frank not with me but with yourself and think carefully before you answer!
I had a friend who had a friend that was a drug dealer. Does that make me a drug dealer? We where even in the same house together for a short time. As for torture, you have no idea the karmic debt you are piling on yourself when you commit torture TO ANY ONE! How can you claim to be good when you use evil acts yourself. Could you see Jesus torturing anyone? Besides if someone believes in their cause so much they are willing blow themselves up then torture is the least persuasive method.
No doubt that these people are rightly going to ask for compensation after being detained for 7 years. And then there also is still Leonard Peltier and the Cuban Five. Who ever said that the USA is part of the free world?
this story has been out for about 3 years now. We have known that this was going on since AbuGharib (the worst pictures of which have STILL not been released despite many lawsuits saying that the DOD has to release the pictures).
This is in fact old news, it's just sad that it's only getting attention now...
I hoping for the day the people that complain about 'torturing' terrorists get caught by terrorists and see what real torture looks like, or are a victim of one of their suicide bombers, whichever comes first.
Americans have changed during Bush. They have become conservative, agressive and suspicious of minorities. In the 80's and 90's, americans were not divided by ideology. Americans then had class. Today, frankly, there are alot of country jokels in America. We saw that in the campaign of John McCain where his hole support came from country jokels. Where did the class of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan and their supporters go?
We're still here. The loud-mouthed inbred ignorant fools hijacked the country for 8 years ... but we finally got it back. Give us a little time to "clean house." The US is back!!
That's the risk we have to take. Nobody said democracy would be easy. It's easier to live in a dictatorship, much simpler. Is that what we want? Dictatorship? If we ignore the law then we're no better than the terrorists. Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father, said it this way: Any man who who would trade his Liberty for a little security deserves neither. Also, didn't you listen? There is NO EVIDENCE that these men ever attacked anyone. After 7 years stolen, though, I'd bet they will now.
You dont get it, they are not "suspected terrorists" if they havent done anything to indicate that.
Its the same as arresting a black person on the streets for no other reason than that the cops "think he looks like a criminal" and the person becoming a "criminal suspected" based on nothing other than walking in the streets.
How would you feel it you where locked up because someone that looked like you committed a crime and people though it best you where also locked up just "because"? Fair?
I hardly think anyone would think they where not "suspected terrorists" if they could produce evidence on the level of the OJ Simpsons case.
OJ Simpsons got off because of technicalities.
A find your comment a strange.
Its like youre saying that OJ Simpsons was unfairly treated while you support that these people, based on no evidence, should stay at Guantanamo... Yeah, you dont come of as bias at all.
We should arrest all Algerians because some of them might be "terrorist"?
Am against keeping people jailed based on nothing more than race, looks(eg looking like a terrorist) or similar. If you are caught red handed making a bomb its different.
But am starting to suspect that you are basically just a racist. I have no prof of course, but maybe we should arrest you on that basis just in case so you dont commit any hate crimes?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You don't understand the point that if one of the Algerians was concivted of being in AQ and the other 5 were connected to the one convicted, then they probably were also connected to aq?
For all I know you may just as well be talking hypothetical, but in general there should be prof to jail someone. Shoplifting, or worse...
If your brother or friend, who by definition are connected to you via family or friendship, join a terrorist organization, that dose not make you guilty of doing the same.
You come of as having such a double standard by not understanding this.
Not talking hypothetical, those are the facts of the case, the other 5 released were released because the person with the information was too scared to come forth with the information.
The 6 Algerians were all connected together, but only one was convicted.
Really? That's because you're a stupid punk ass American who's nation has lost all credibility in the world, And your last statement reflects as to why.
Hey! Hey hey hey hey! That american you're speaking to is an idiot, I won't argue with that ... but, please. The intelligent Americans, the reasonable and logical Americans did the right thing in our last election ... please stop judging us based on the filth between our toes, which WKaliber clearly is. Please. We only just took back control from the idiots who were running our country for 8 years. Peace, neighbor!
2) What have YOU contributed to this nation. I'm sick and tired of people standing behind the accomplishments of others spouting bull shit like "America is Number 1" ... There's a 99% chance you've never contributed to it's greatness.
3) Canada is Our single largest trading partner and our best friends in the world. If we can't show them some respect no wonder the other nations in the world have no respect for us.
Thats why they should just kill the bastards that they know are shooting at them instead of sending them to cuba. that way no one can bitch about their rights being abussed
Ive noticed that iranian history seems to begin in 1979 in America. In 1953 the cia helped overthrow Mohammed Mosaddeq - A democratically elected secular leader. We than propped up the brutal dictatorship of the shah, who was toppled in the 1979 islamic revolution. Most americans may have forgotten this but im pretty sure iranians haven't.
Sunwing2x is correct. It's hilarious that the people who are now our supposed enemies (e.g. Al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein, Islamic Militants in Iran, etc.) WERE ALL FUNDED, TRAINED, AND PUT IN POWER by our own country.
sunwing2x... I know, it's laughable how people cherry pick history to sway opinion. But all the powers, not just the US, have been messing with that region for much longer than that and all have failed.
Many historians can now, directly, attribute the down fall of the Roman empire because the enormous amounts of resources spent on staving off a kingdom know as the Sassanid. The Sassanid occupied an area now known as Iran.
Gee, I wonder if our leaders bother reading history?
I wonder if some other detainee was tortured and gave up their names to get out of the torture? Fuck you, Mr. President!! Why isn't there some law saying a doctor can morally object to clearing the Lone Star Fuhrer's windpipe when he gets a pretzel stuck in it?
this is why i like watching tyt vids cenk is great. he puts the issue down in plain english. now as to the video this shows you the bullshit bush allowed and why they did not want these detainees in civil court because they have nothing on a lot of these detainees. to arrest someone or detain them because they "may" do something against the u.s. is absurd. with that logic you could arrest most of the u.s. population because they "may" do something illegal. it's fucking bullshit...
No, it isn't crazy! It's good to keep yourself open-minded. Cenk watches Fox News and he's here hosting this show.. the other side always has something interesting to say.
You do such a great job with these videos. I am so impressed. The delivery, the frank language paraphrasing. Maybe this is what is missing from the "news." You see, at least when you tell a story your opinion is explicit instead of appearing objective by reading a teleprompter straight-faced. Great work.
now they have any reason to do so...if they did not hate america before now they surely do and the have they right to.....wtf put innocent people in jail for 7years...come on
They never killed ANY Americans, so your statement of killing "more" Americans is plain false. Also, the whole point of bringing these cases into American civil courts rather than the kangaroo military courts is that we can fully determine whether they are in fact a danger - here, there was not enough evidence for 5 out of the 6 - they were innocent and therefore should be let go - and he still detained one of them - so it's not like we're releasing everyone willy-nilly to kill again.
Having been through this cruelty (from the Gitmo prisoners' perspective) having been through this, I think that would be enough for someone to want to blow something up. Imagine the injustice these individuals felt...

Justice system?
A true justice system should serve only justice, not fucking politics.
If a so-called "justice system" do injustice, they must justify their own misdeeds.
Compensation for the victims and punishment upon themselves.
Those who kept those individuals detained should be detained themselves in the exact same manner that those others had to go through.

Your ignorant, there are no such things as terrorists. "Terrorism"and the "war on terror" is propaganda perpetuated by a ruling class with a vested interest in taking away our civil liberties, ie the patriot act, and homeland security. We tried fighting al-queda like a criminal prosecution but that was a complete failure under the Clintion administration. Clinton was offered Osama but Clintion turned them down because "there was no evidence of wrongdoing". Then about 4 years later we had 911.

How many arrest did Clinton make? Do you have some names and some dates and what prison they are doing time in?
He was offered Osama because the Sudanese govt was willing to hand him over to us but Clinton couldn't find anything to make the charges stick.
timbosforporn 3 years ago
Here are a few facts:
Fact:The Sudan never offer Bin Laden to the US. The 9/11 commission report found no evidence to support this claim.
Fact: Clinton missed several opportunities to capture or kill Bin Laden. 10-13 times according to former CIA Analyist Michael Scheumer.
Fact: Prior to 9/11, the Bush Adminstration ignored a memo called 'Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US" This should be a red flag.
Fact: 9/11 Commission faults both Clinton and Bush.

Go figure!!

Could you see Jesus torturing anyone? Besides if someone believes in their cause so much they are willing blow themselves up then torture is the least persuasive method.

I hoping for the day the people that complain about 'torturing' terrorists get caught by terrorists and see what real torture looks like, or are a victim of one of their suicide bombers, whichever comes first.
asliberalastheycome 3 years ago
It is rather easy. Life detention. No torture.
If the principle is altered (waterboarding) the enemy can easily wave the moral flag of equality.
So you want those that speak up against possible torture to face torture?
You are a fucked up piece of shit.

Waterobarding ain't torture, what about I gourge out your eyes, or cut out your toungue, or burn you alive, or behead you?

water boarding is torture. The fact that you do not think so is laughable at best, and down right wrong at worst.
Anyone that does not think waterboarding is torture is severly misinformed and should have no say in this matter.
calibush 3 years ago 4
as"liberal"asthetcome; waterboarding is torture, defined by the human rights comission. Now, the US will follow said guidlines under the UN charter.
So you say it is not. I does not matter, as it is not up to you to define.
And cutting of a mans head is not torture, it is murder.

If they release suspected terrorists and the kill people again, which they will, it'll be poetic justice.
asliberalastheycome 3 years ago
That's the risk we have to take. Nobody said democracy would be easy. It's easier to live in a dictatorship, much simpler. Is that what we want? Dictatorship? If we ignore the law then we're no better than the terrorists. Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father, said it this way: Any man who who would trade his Liberty for a little security deserves neither. Also, didn't you listen? There is NO EVIDENCE that these men ever attacked anyone. After 7 years stolen, though, I'd bet they will now.
Arondeus 3 years ago 3
You dont get it, they are not "suspected terrorists" if they havent done anything to indicate that.
Its the same as arresting a black person on the streets for no other reason than that the cops "think he looks like a criminal" and the person becoming a "criminal suspected" based on nothing other than walking in the streets.
How would you feel it you where locked up because someone that looked like you committed a crime and people though it best you where also locked up just "because"? Fair?
Lobos222 3 years ago 3
Just like O.J. Simpson.
asliberalastheycome 3 years ago
I hardly think anyone would think they where not "suspected terrorists" if they could produce evidence on the level of the OJ Simpsons case.
OJ Simpsons got off because of technicalities.
A find your comment a strange.
Its like youre saying that OJ Simpsons was unfairly treated while you support that these people, based on no evidence, should stay at Guantanamo... Yeah, you dont come of as bias at all.
Lobos222 3 years ago
Well yesterday they released 5 Algerians and kept a sixth Algerian with ties to al-Qaida and suspected bombings.
You really think the other 5 Algerians that they caught with the sixth Algerian were not also tied to AQ?
They released them because their information came from an unidenified source, that's it.
I bet those Algerians are back plotting more bombings, and as I said, it would be postic justice if they did indeed kill more people, sad but true.
asliberalastheycome 3 years ago
Whats your point?
We should arrest all Algerians because some of them might be "terrorist"?
Am against keeping people jailed based on nothing more than race, looks(eg looking like a terrorist) or similar. If you are caught red handed making a bomb its different.
But am starting to suspect that you are basically just a racist. I have no prof of course, but maybe we should arrest you on that basis just in case so you dont commit any hate crimes?
See how flawed your logic is?
Lobos222 3 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
You don't understand the point that if one of the Algerians was concivted of being in AQ and the other 5 were connected to the one convicted, then they probably were also connected to aq?
asliberalastheycome 3 years ago
For all I know you may just as well be talking hypothetical, but in general there should be prof to jail someone. Shoplifting, or worse...
If your brother or friend, who by definition are connected to you via family or friendship, join a terrorist organization, that dose not make you guilty of doing the same.
You come of as having such a double standard by not understanding this.
Lobos222 3 years ago
Not talking hypothetical, those are the facts of the case, the other 5 released were released because the person with the information was too scared to come forth with the information.
The 6 Algerians were all connected together, but only one was convicted.
Doesn't seem like justice to me.

We than propped up the brutal dictatorship of the shah, who was toppled in the 1979 islamic revolution. Most americans may have forgotten this but im pretty sure iranians haven't.

sunwing2x...
