Quick question Andy: Every fuzz pedal I play, I hate the response, I meen I lovelovelove fuzz sound but I hate most of the closed off, and toneless type response (to me when I play I guess). I was wondering if I put a Fulltone OCD V.4 and a Proco Rat (I picked the Rat because it seems to have a slight fuzz character) together, if the two pedals would combine and make a fuzz sound. It may sound stupid, but I'm experimenting to find "the sound".
Hi, could anyone here give me some advice, I am after a fuzz pedal, I really am looking for that fat but smooth Eric Johnson fuzz tone. Does anyone own this pedal? does it at actually come close to the fuzz EJ's sound?
@robinburrowsband I have a Jetter Gain Stage Blue that comes close. Check this clip and let me know what you think - youtube.com/ watch?v=4y63O0_49M0 I want to sell mine only because of a hand injury, if interested send me a pm
@robinburrowsband just get a fuzz face, thats what he uses. the reissues have a couple of trim pots you can mess with to dial in the sound you want. or go for the jimi hendrix version, he's used those. although his main lead tone isnt a fuzz, its a B.K.butler tube driver into and cranked marshall.
"200lbs" actually refers to the famous Ventures song, "The 2000 Pound Bee" - Red Rhodes made the first known individual fuzz tone (in a box) for that recording. Very cool. I wonder who has that one?
@ProGuitarShopDemos and yet, this pedal doesnt sound anything like eric johnsons violin tone or even his fuzz tone. sounds nice, but not like his tone at all. the only way ive been able to come close to his fuzz sound is with a fuzz face (which he uses) and mess with the trim-pots inside.
When you think of early fuzz, you think of a scooped buzzing sound, not the later fuzz face or color sounds associated w/ Hendrix. The early Fuzzrites have legions of fans who need retro sounds;I'm one of them. When demo-ing sputtering fuzzes, may I recommend that Andy do some "spy music" style playing on individual low strings so that we can see if such retro sounds are being offered.
I have to agree, this doesn't sound anything like EJ to me either. Maybe with some tweaking? Might sound different in person too. The sustain is pretty good though, really good.
Putting ANY fuzz into a clean amp will not get you the Eric Johnson tone. Fuzzes are very finnicky, and I wouldn't judge this thing without pumping it into a cookin' Marshall
Sounds nothing like Eric Johnsons fuzz face's. Great hype though! Fulltone 70 destroy's this thing for that. Or analogman imo of course. Pgs cool demo keep it up.
He clearly puts some thought into which ones go wiith each setting. I wonder how long the process is before he films these, it can't be done on the fly. Kudos to him, this stuff is not easy!
I wish my 200 lbs sounded like this. Mine is extremely noisy with the volume above 1:00, and I have to leave the fat pegged left to keep my ears from bleeding. There is nothing sweet and smooth about mine.
Wow, that sucks, mine is amazing, I roll back my guitar volume and it sounds just like this, if you leave your volume open all the way it can get really noisy, but that's the case with most fuzz pedals, for me at least
you guys really are a great help to all of us musicians... other than you are going to make us all even poorer than we are now - but we'll have excellent tone baby!
I have the BC108 Si Fuzz Face, I love these old-school Silicon fuzzes, you really get that fizzing and popping like a chainsaw sound!

@jensenbell - Actually the "200lbs" is a reference to Eric Johnson, who famously referred to his lead tone as sounding like a "200lb Violin".

anyone know where I can get a smashing pumpkins-sounding fuzz pedal. all the ones i found are mondo expensive.

I heard SP used Muff, which is pretty inexpensive.

If you want a really specific fuzz, you're going to have to pay the price. I know the Neo Fuzz and G.I. Fuzz by MI Audio are really versatile.

I dunno. When I want a fuzz that sounds like Eric Johnson's fuzz face, I'd get a fuzz face. Not one of these.

If you like Eric Johnson's tone check out the PGS Lovepedal Kanji 9 demo and look at about 3:12. Best tone Ive ever heard... ever...

KidCharlemagne94 3 years ago 3
what overdrive is used for the intro of all these videos? (0:00-0:06) cause that sounds really good
aftguitar94 3 years ago
It's recording software. There is no amp or pedal, just software.
ProGuitarShopDemos 3 years ago
haha. I always wanted to know that too.
the tone sounds fantastic. I actually often thought
'I'd buy whatever that setup is in an instant
'
and I always thought I was a bit of a tone connisuer..
guess technology is really starting to get good.
just goes to show you. =)

I resent "metric funnys", only 3 countries in the world are stupid enough to not use metric - Burma, Liberia and the US.

This is contagious.... I agree, every pedal you guys demo appears to be a MUST HAVE.
Seriously though, this fuzz sounds great at every fuzz level - I actually like the lower setting.
Oh well, I just ordered an MI Buff N Boost - This baby is next - GREAT DEMO!
