@Vembisnow the notch gives the "black dust" as cody refers, a place to collect on a leaf or the end of your knife, whatever you are using to collect the ember on
Cody you are a big reference to me and many more out there! Keep it true and simple brother as you always do, your trade mark brother! We like it this way! Thanks a million man!
thanks for all you do man_ you are a true inspiration and role model for a way of life we will all soon have to live, you and Dave are the bomb and I have learned much from you guys.
The notch allows the dust to pool up so you get some mass and eventually with heat create an ember. Brings me back to my Second Nature days having to bust a fire using a hand drill in order to prove I have mastered the drill type of fire making. Bow and hand. I'd like to see a video of how to do the Plow technique Cody! I never was able to bust a fire that way and would like to know how/what I was doing wrong. I wish I could afford coming out to your school!
Yucca board and willow drill is the bomb. I generally like the board "softer" than the drill although, using the same 'wood' for both is common. I have a 30" piece of bamboo that I insert plugs of different materials into so eliminates the need to find a dick straight piece that long for a drill. Also makes 'experimenting' alot easier. Be sure to reinforce drill end by wrapping with something strong like artifical sinew or it will just split apart. Good luck and good vid!
I hope they make more dual survival episodes season 4 would. Be awsome. Your the. Best Cody

The notch allows for ventilation... am I right? :)

@TheLateBoyScout no it's for the fine dust to fall on the undernetah leaf or whatever platform you have, to then transfer it to the tinder bundle.
tekknorat 9 months ago
@TheLateBoyScout nah man, the notch allows the hot dust to collect in one area, or else it would be all over the place.
