I thought in the interview with Playboy, Little Richard said Esquerita taught him the Boogie Woogie piano style. Also Little Richard said the pompadour hair style was from Esquerita's influence
They influenced each other. Richard's early uptempo ( 1951/52) pre Specialty sides include tracks like Taxi Blues, Get Rich Quick and Ain't Nothing Happening which show what was to come. There are no released SQ records in this style until Richard had retired.
They clearly influenced each other. SQ did sessions with Richard, he's reportedly on some of the Vee Jay sides, he then had records released on the same labels as Richard in the 60's - Okeh and Brunswick. The flip of SQ's version of Dew Drop Inn sounds like Richard's own I Need Love on Okeh. Richard recorded his songs - Freedom Blues and Dew Drop Inn for instance on Reprise.
S.Q.Reeader= Eskew Reeder = (fonetically) Esquerita. In my opinion the three above mentioned rock'n'roll singer aren't on same level, because Penniman on the top of traditional rock and roll world!
Esquerita was the first with this type of music which you can read in my book "muziek van de duivel" . Esquerita was LEGENDARY, you may keep that Pennimanfake!
Esquerita was already performing this Rock and Roll style around 1954 in a time that Little Richard was also on stage but...not with Rock and Roll but Gospel.
LR took EVERYTHING from him...his way of playing, his haircut even his way of dressing. I regret that people who come with an original idea die forgotten....That is what my book is all about.
But please give Esqew Reeder his right place. He is the true Little Richard, or better Little Richard is an Exquerita-copy.
Both Larry Williams and Little Richard were friends...they both took from Espuerita...they were all friends...all three. All rock n roll singers from that era were not original.Everyone stoled.
I have listened to Little Richard's music from 1951,and it sounds like slow R&B without the boogie woogie and jump blues.Joe turner was mixing jump blues together at that time...who knows.
check out Esquerita on Capital records cdp 7918712 seems like lil rich was a clone, check out with the Jordanaires I live the life i love, and this thing i call love, check out his backing singers Esquerettas
according to Little Richards biography little richard met esquirita in a bus stop where gay dudes would meet to "get together" and esquirita taught him how to play boogie woogie piano
I only noticed that Esquerita's records were 58-59, years after Little Richard started. And I'm not saying they were Imitators, but had the similar sound. More power to them.
Esquerita died WHILE washing cars? Drownded? Got caught in the brushes? ...I don't think so.

Yes, Little Richard and S Q Reeder stayed in touch for many years.
When Little Richard re-recorded much of his material in the 1960's, Esquerita is creditted with playing piano on:-
Good Golly Miss Molly (Vee Jay) (12/1964)
Slippin' And Slidin' (Vee Jay) (12/1964)
Stingy Jenny (Brunswick) (6/1968)
Freedom Blues/Dew Drop Inn (Reprise) (4/1970)
Greenwood Mississippi (Reprise) (1970)

Little Richard,Esquerita & Larry Williams were ALL great; but what about Billy Wright & his tremendous influence on rock AND on roll?

I can't read the book. Maybe someone can tell us what Esquerita did before Little Richard. What name did he use? Recordings? Performance?

Unfair. Little Richard plagiarized Esquerita (who, incidentally, died washing cars), not the other way round.

And there was a reissue album of Esquerita's too.

Esquertia was first. Little Richard happened to release albums before he did. But Esquerita was number one
