I would like to thank the group hackers from the past who i grew up learning about when the dreamcast was being hacked. these hackers come from different countrys. Team Echelon, Dolmexia, & more.
@JBNARUTOAKAJMONEY12 Look on the bottom of your system, on the labels you will see a circled number. If that number is 0 or 1, yes you can, if it's a 2, probably not but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot, because I'm not entirely sure.
i had to convert my .cdi file to data/data since i have a december 2000 console and i thought i did it but now it just reads the burns as a music cd ive been working on this for 6 hours and dont know what to do!
I just wanna know since DCs can play backup games, does this mean that it can override region lock?? say ie my DC is NTSC-J and as of typing im downloading a NTSC-U Sonic Adventure, would that play on a Japanese DC since it is on CD-R after all.... Coz my PS2 is the same it is an HK PS2 yet can play backups and NTSC Js, though not PALS... please answer
should do, i have HTK-3030 pal and ntsc sa2 and ntsc srb2 (port of pc fangame) both work but the main problem was sonic adventre it show sega logo but dont get past it, it just goes back to the menu with the fou options, but anyways, give a try it should your but make 2 copies with diffrent cd-rs just incase one disc type dont work
@mattrules44 actually it is. for instance, you bought sonic adventure, but then the cd got put in a blender for whatever reason, you can legally make a copy cause you purchased the copyright when you bought the game. you just cant lend it or sell it.
2:I've got the PAL (europeian) Dreamcast but some games like House Of The Dead 2 are only available to download in NTSC (other countries) if there in NTSC will Utopia disc make them play on PAL systems?(some people say a PAL lightgun won't work on a NTSC game does the Utopia disc fix this?)
Hey I have had a dreamcast for yeeeeaaars but I never played online multiplayer. Does anyone know if people are still on those servers lol?? I have unrealtournament and I always wanted to try online multiplayer though
Ummm, I have a Dreamcast, you don't think I know this? But how many people actually knew how to make backups at the time the Dreamcast got killed off. Not many probably. Plus the Dreamcast had Giga discs (or most) not regular cds so the backups had to be "downgraded" somehow to fit on a regular cd. Besides that, there was a rumor that the Dreamcast wasn't going to be made anymore and that didn't help things either.
I own quite a few originals and the only reason I would burn a "backup" is just that, to use instead of the original. Who wants to scratch up an original ? Then you're screwed if it's a htf or expensive game. And if backups killed the Dreamcast, how come the PS3 and Xbox (360) are still going ? People can make backups of those too. And Sega hasn't made another console since the DC which ought to tell you something else was wrong (and it wasn't backups).
this is very VERY old news. people have been able to burn dc cdrs for a long time. all you need is discjuggler and snesorama. As for it being morally bad to burn them. I think nowadays no one but collectors should care. It's not like you can make money off them nowadays. Plus the piracy created the homebrew/emulation scene for the dreamcast that is just too cool.
Well, no one killed the system. Sega knew the company was going under, and if they didn't stop production on DC stuff that they would go out of business. The system had been over advertised. They basically stopped production because of financial issues. Do a little reading about the company at that time. They were really struggling.
And the only reason people burn the games now is because they're too hard to find and buy. Not like they would benifit Sega now if they didn't anyway.

I think any region will work on a PAL Dreamcast if they are burnt discs.
Retail discs won't though..

its as easy as hell to play backups on a PAL dreamcast..
simply burn them slightly differently with the burning software and they work fine with the dreamcast no modding needed.

Oh and I don't need a lesson on how to download and burn Dreamcast games. I've done it a hundred times. I've got more backups than you can imagine.
If you want to know where else you can download them try the binary news groups.

That's true, but nowadays it's impossible to burn copies of PS3 games, and Xbox 360 needs a special chip.
So, If Dreamcast games are so easy to copy, then it's SEGA fault.
PS1 copies weren't easy to do, and the PS1 is older than Dreamcast...
