I used to go to Bullhead City,Arizona church..We moved to Oregon...The Bullhead Pastor has been Pastoring in Bullhead for over 20 years..We are going to go back to a sister of our home church..Which will be The Door in Springfield, Oregon..They preach on sin and they deal with sin..Heck, I should not like them as I did sin and there were consequences..But I had a repentant heart, seems like some of these bashers want their sin without consequences..Not biblical..

I don't count the secular media or Rick Ross as being reliable witnesses to judge a church. To call something a cult you have to know what is not a cult. To a non-christian all christian churches might as well be cults. However I am still trying to find out the truth about this church from some reliable non-biased witnesses.
@ekkertmal99 there is one in the city I live in. It actually seems quite good, but it does concern me that they are connected to leaders who are 'always right' like this. But some people are obviously really blessed at these churches but I think that is because God sees these people's hearts and is blessing them for their loyality to him even if they are unaware of the church's problems
@davidkeithbecket If you ask any pastor in the PH what kind of credentials or education they have, you'll find out none of them have any formal eduction. Would you put your life in the hands of someone who's never stepped foot inside a college classroom? They've destroyed many lives because of ignorant counselling and leadership. Go to a church that has education standards for their pastors.
@ekkertmal99 well I mean peter and john were 'unschooled, ordinary men' I think bible college can help but I think there is the idea in some Christian circles that Bible college equals knowledge of the bible and/character which it often doesn't. I know people who have never had formal training and know both God and their bibles far better than those who have. But that wasn't really what you were saying I know, you were more getting at people who have neither character nor bible knowledge right?

If you're on death row, don't you want a an ambulance chaser, or a lawyer whos an expert in death penalty cases? A pastor can have good intentions, but if all he can tell you is to trust god and right will come out right, in regards to a broken marriage ,for example, he's not doing his job. @ekkertmal99 what I would is someone who has real faith in God, knows how to persevere, resist sin,knows the scriptures and knows how to help/love others. there are biblical requisits for 'pastor' but none mention a degree. A worldly qualification may both help or hinder with some of these things. eg a counseling degree may have both sound advice and rubbish advice in it. It sounds like they are giving very pat answers and don't really know what the word says or how to help people practically

It seems logical to me if someone wants to make it his mission in life to help people, whether through religion or otherwise, he would want to make use of all the tools available. Wisdom and knowledge comes from all corners of the world. Seeking that wisdom from only one source would be limiting, to say the least.
@ekkertmal99 yes I agree. However you also need a 'yardstick', or ultimate authority by which to measure wisdom, or else you don't know if it is wise or not. As a Christian I believe the Bible is the ultimate authority on truth, seeking wisdom is actively encouraged by the Bible and I wish more pastors would study, but it also says that 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'. As in if you start with false presuppositions about God it's possible to get dumber the more you learn.

I think it's our responsibilty to educate ourselves, not just about christian things but also about the world around us. Historians like to say: if you ignore the mistakes of the past, you're bound to repeat them. You can be satisfied with what a church pumps into your head, but aren't you selling your self short?

I see God in science, art, everywhere I look points to him, his truth, his order, his beauty. And I think you are right Christians need to use their minds and study. We are a bible believing church and so as Jesus was one minded so are we, some things are wrong and that's what the bible says, so that's what we believe. That isn't my experience at all, as a church we allow God to change people. All i do know is that when i was a teenager and i left church i spoke against the church because i wanted to justify why i was leaving, i think that's the case with a lot of these negative stories.

I was at the Door in 1980-81 and at that particular Prescott conference when Wayman Mitchell rebelled against his headship in the 4 Square Church...His website is a 3rd person retelling of his side of the story on the history of the cult - one should obviously not expect any honesty from Wayman on why he chose to make himself Pope of a new denomination.

I'm a former member of The Potter's House Church and I am here to tell you about my personal experience, which was a HORRIBLE one.The pastor had kidnapped my daughter and had tried to sell her to another couple in another state.

They lure people in with am evolving salvation message that begins with Jesus wants to save them and from their they teach you must do 'works' for the church/pastor to maintain the saved status. Anyone who questions or balks at these demands is branded a rebel and a backslider and forced out of the church if they don't repent in spades! It's selling indulgences all over again ie 2 for a dime 3 for a quarter.
Mitchell's CFM ie Door / Potters House makes a mockery of the True Church and make merchandise of all that pertains to. They inflict fear and guilt and demand loyalty, separation from all other Christians outside their 'Door' as well as family, friends and neighbors that aren't in the church. They teach elitism and manipulate churchgoer's for their wallets, time, energy and talents and any other resource the pastor or the 'Head Cheese' Wayman Mitchell sees fit.
This is a bitter angry religion. There's no focus on personal relationship with the Lord, it's all about kissing the pastors ass and paying your dues to keep ones payments up on the salvation that Jesus paid for in full for those who will only believe.

I used to go to Bullhead City,Arizona church..We moved to Oregon...The Bullhead Pastor has been Pastoring in Bullhead for over 20 years..We are going to go back to a sister of our home church..Which will be The Door in Springfield, Oregon..They preach on sin and they deal with sin..Heck, I should not like them as I did sin and there were consequences..But I had a repentant heart, seems like some of these bashers want their sin without consequences..Not biblical..

I don't count the secular media or Rick Ross as being reliable witnesses to judge a church. To call something a cult you have to know what is not a cult. To a non-christian all christian churches might as well be cults. However I am still trying to find out the truth about this church from some reliable non-biased witnesses.

But some people are obviously really blessed at these churches but I think that is because God sees these people's hearts and is blessing them for their loyality to him even if they are unaware of the church's problems

I know people who have never had formal training and know both God and their bibles far better than those who have. A pastor can have good intentions, but if all he can tell you is to trust god and right will come out right, in regards to a broken marriage ,for example, he's not doing his job. That's what a lot of PH pastors do and peoples' lives are destroyed because of their ignorance.

@ekkertmal99 what I would is someone who has real faith in God, knows how to persevere, resist sin,knows the scriptures and knows how to help/love others. there are biblical requisits for 'pastor' but none mention a degree. A worldly qualification may both help or hinder with some of these things. eg a counseling degree may have both sound advice and rubbish advice in it. It sounds like they are giving very pat answers and don't really know what the word says or how to help people practically

Wisdom and knowledge comes from all corners of the world. Seeking that wisdom from only one source would be limiting, to say the least.

@ekkertmal99 yes I agree. However you also need a 'yardstick', or ultimate authority by which to measure wisdom, or else you don't know if it is wise or not. As a Christian I believe the Bible is the ultimate authority on truth, seeking wisdom is actively encouraged by the Bible and I wish more pastors would study, but it also says that 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'. As in if you start with false presuppositions about God it's possible to get dumber the more you learn.

I was at that crusade at the Phx. Civic Plaza when the confrontation with Rick Ross took place. We considered the guys that stood up to him heroes. Some scored enough points in their local church to become pastors. Now they're middle age. I wonder how many of them feel they should have done something else with their lives. The only skill they have is to manipulate others to follow them, the way they follow their own pastors. I'm glad I don't have to live like a puppet the way they do.

I have been a part of the chandler az church for over 25 years have never been, brainwashed, told how to live my life who to associate with etc..I have friends who left the church who I still assciate with and who come to visit from time to time no problem. I am glad for you GS, that the CFM has been a success for you. As a teen, I left my parents for the CFM, got married there. When the marriage fell apart, I was alone. Who was there for me? My parents, not my CFM brothers, including you. When my children grow up, I hope that they will want a wider view of the world than what the CFM offers. That isn't my experience at all, as a church we allow God to change people. All i do know is that when i was a teenager and i left church i spoke against the church because i wanted to justify why i was leaving, i think that's the case with a lot of these negative stories.

Funny how PH fails to mention how bitter Wayman Mitchell is at Foursquare & how his actions that led to him being kicked out were the very things that PH folks call us rebels for. The pot calls the kettle black! Mitch was a rebel all along & his bitterness towards Foursquarew is so hypocritical considering THEY made him! If it wasn't for them he'd be shoving burgers thru McDonald's drive thru asking "You want fries with that?"

Anyone that isn't asleep in CFM knows once you are in it, if you leave the church you are out of God's will according to the message of the Potters House which means that person is backslidden & no longer saved. Leaving Potters House is forbidden because that person won't be right with God when they leave. You can't just get up & go to the church across the street or stay home. You will be called a rebel & backslidden.

All these comments come from bitter people who cannot and will not deal with sin. In order for these people to take the focus off their disobediance, that they were perhaps confronted with, they then place blame on other people therefore the church. The church does not preach that If you leave you will go to hell, the clearly state that if you are not right with God you will go to hell.

This a CULT that does teach Jesus BUT they use Him and His name to spiritually and psychologically abuse people to control them. They aren't chained to the seats as Mitchell always says, but they don't dare get up and leave for fear they will lose their standing with God. This is EVIL! This church twists God's Word and makes him an angry 'god' who delights in punishing people, which is a LIE! Jesus said, "Anyone who calls on my name, I will in no wise cast out!"

They lure people in with am evolving salvation message that begins with Jesus wants to save them and from their they teach you must do 'works' for the church/pastor to maintain the saved status. Anyone who questions or balks at these demands is branded a rebel and a backslider and forced out of the church if they don't repent in spades! It's selling indulgences all over again ie 2 for a dime 3 for a quarter.

Mitchell's CFM ie Door / Potters House makes a mockery of the True Church and make merchandise of all that pertains to. They inflict fear and guilt and demand loyalty, separation from all other Christians outside their 'Door' as well as family, friends and neighbors that aren't in the church. They teach elitism and manipulate churchgoer's for their wallets, time, energy and talents and any other resource the pastor or the 'Head Cheese' Wayman Mitchell sees fit.
