1988 was the year when the earth stopped to see two guitar gods and honor one of the greatest icons of will power and fight for equality of the races.
As for Clapton having to play rhythm guitar, I think Eric's done alright for himself. He probably doesn't need to shove for the spotlight at a friend's show. I would imagine that playing alongside Clapton is intimidating enough, so it's a credit to Knoffler that he has slowhand up there with him in the first place, as I imagine most people would be wary of being shown up at their own gig, with their own material. Both these guys deserve our respect.
That was unbelievable .......Mark wrote and sang the song so he should play lead .......I'm sure Clapton loved just playing period ......not where or what he'd being playing .....So many greats, they all own the level of greatness..... ty for the vid
They're both good, listen to the words, it's not about being "known" or making it, it's about playing "like anything" and swinging with the sultans, let the music breathe just enjoy it
legendary shit man both of them. Art is eternal and absolutes that draw falsely dichotomous choices are FU**ING RETARDED! It is all a matter of taste and beautiful in it's own right.
Nothing is better or best it just is what it is....and these two guys are creative and cool.
Not to belittle Eric Clapton, who's only failure is writing good songs, he's only good for backup guitarist compared to the great Mark Knopfler. When Mark plays he portrays what's in his mind, heart and spirit, his skill allows him to do that.
@Cyberat0 lol you obviously know nothing about Clapton then, Clapton is arguably the best guitarist that has ever lived. Knopfler is damn good i agree but there is a reason people called Clapton God. As for his song writing ability, i would like to see you or anyone you know do it better.
@JTrut19 imo knopfler is better than clapton. song writting ability ? clapton copied almost all blues tracks he could found and don't forget he stole cocaine and after midnight to jj cale. Listen to any clapton's solo it's pure blues whereas knopfler is more creative check brothers in arms tunnel of love telegraph road
@kahlan4182 That's stupid. I love both Mark and Eric, but what you wrote is stupid. They are both legends and any kind of comparison of them two is stupid. Oh, and, you wrote some of Mark's songs, but what about "Tears in heaven"?
@kahlan4182 Inspiration and stealing are two different words. So what if he plays the blues and knoplfer doesn't. Clapton wrote songs like Tears in Heaven and Layla, which are beautiful in their own right.
@TomPauley Yeah mate, it most certainly is.:) But so are Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Telegraph Road, Romeo and Juliet, Once Upon A Time in the West...and many, many more. (love them all, especially the live versions.:D)
@Thakar98 and ksjl123: out of pure respect towards Mark's incredible playing. He COULD fire out, but he doesn't want to (and doesn't need to), because this is Mark's song and Mark's music. Man, his "Chet Atkins as Mariachi" style makes me cry...

@EchidnaVideos -- No, moron. @mggeels was exposed to this music early on because of his/her father, and, therefore, developed a taste for it from a young age.
