  • fucking white honkey complaining abt cost of living in another country go cry in ur country fucking scumbags niggers and whites from america always crying

  • Cool, but its 80 yen to 1$ now with a Starbucks coffee costing 380 in Family Mart...

  • Cost of living isn't too far off from San Francisco. I heard 池袋 is fairly affordable, although it's not the safest neighborhood.

  • Now its 76¥ to the 1$ :[

  • LOL thank goodness there is a lot of deathtrap rat holes for us :)

  • did he say 4000 daaaaaaaamn

  • $12 for a decent burger is not expensive...(coming from Canada). I usually have to pay $15 in this country just to get an edible burger.

  • Wow....And I thought living in San Francisco is expensive. You can get a 1 Bedroom apartment (not an illegal in-law in the Sunset/Richmond District btw) in Frisco for around $2K. Of course, I own my own home so renting is moot for me *knock on wood.*

  • not expensive AT ALL... idk what ur problem is or u have a bAD job or what...

  • The rent, is to damn high!

  • Comment removed

  • I pay more in Denmark. Japan is sooo cheap when you com from denmark.

  • @RafaelAngel1910 I can imagine that, even denmark is alright compared to norway...

  • Tokyo has a lot of rich gaijins living there. That's why the city is so expensive and has a lot of homeless people. I think all the major cities have the same kind of problem.

  • It's my dream to live in Tokyo after one more year saving up in Seoul, but it's probably not the most viable decision. For the sort of money it'll require I could go back to university or start up a life in a European city..

  • What about transportation ? (metro)

  • Not more than Zurich or Paris or Stockholm, it seems.... I though the damage would be way worse. Is Kyoto much cheaper?

  • You call that a lot ? GO TO HELSINKI

  • you're very amiable and very witty without going overboard. Like your video.

  • "I feel like i'm beeing robbed by pirates on the high seas"

I need to remember that one :P

  • Considered cheap compared to Freaking Singapore --_--

  • is it weird that i think this guy is hot?

  • @summerthelummer depends on whether you are a girl or a guy..

  • @Swatty1337 shut up homophobe. ps im a girl

  • @summerthelummer dont start shit over nothing

  • Damn am I glad I'm British (And therefore we get more yen per pound than Americans get per dollar). $12 is about £7 and saved money SERIOUSLY adds up from that. I've been planning on going to study in Osaka within the next five years and the monthly rent of a 13 foot square mansion apartment is about £140. A student in the UK would be lucky if they got £500 pound p/m for that. The major expense would probably be the course fees and flight costs, though and I'm not exactly from a rich family.

  • lmao : $12 Burger was here XD

  • I live in new york and i thought tokyo would be extremely off the charts expensive but now that i actually do the math its more or less the same as living in NY (or at where I live)

  • Depends on where your coming from, Cause From what i see if i bring 6,004, There i'd have 463, 801.19

  • Allright.....so it costs the same as living in New York or any other real city.

  • @Jon69Eric Good for suits.

  • When he mentioned earthquakes

I thought " damn fuck you irony"

  • I love your videos and I want to live here but how much does it cost total to live there would you say its cheaper to live there than american here its like almost 1200 to 1500 a month in CA please and thankyou.

  • I am a Malaysian. My country may be cheap for tourists when they spend foreign currencies, but for locals working and living in Malaysia, it's definitely not cheap.

Comparatively speaking (without using currency conversion), say, 1 Dollar = RM1, or 100 Yen = RM1, Malaysians have to pay more for so many things. I am not trying to badmouth my country, but simply stating the fact. In some areas, Malaysia can be even more expensive than Japan.

  • Thanks for being so specific and forthcoming with your monthly bills and expenses, it really took a lot of the ambiguity out of the subject.

  • I've been living in Seoul for 12 months but I'm desperate to live in Tokyo as culturally, architecturally, and in terms of the variety of music and art on show, it's a lot better. BUT I wonder if it'd be worth it when I have to think about every penny. In Seoul, working as a teacher, I don't have to think for a moment about money and I still save thousands.

  • it doesnt seem like that much to live. not more than what my mom is paying where we live

  • It's funny cause our electric company is called TECO

  • lol i have a coworker that looks very much like you except is blonde and blue eyed...funny thing is he talks and sounds just like you...lol so strange.

    good vid!

  • LMAO i finally found the vid with the hot as balls bit..epic.

  • FTW just FTW japan is awesome though love japan

  • Is that enough to get a place there on an English teaching job? o.o

  • live in tokyo is like having ur monopoly piece on board walk with 4 house on it pay big money hey r u a eng teacher their

  • live in the suburbs

  • it's not bad at all,,,i like the paying bills at a local convenient store thingy...lol

  • so the moral of the story is ITS BLOODY EXPENSIVE IN TOKYO

  • That... Is actually really cheap O__o

  • 92FREESPIRIT , FTW = For The Win ...

  • What doses FTW mean ?

  • @92FREESPIRIT FTW = For The Win

  • @JamesJohnsonRS Hey i saw that ! And I thought for years it meant "fuck the what" !

  • @justcallmeassinine hahahah, i also thought it meant that for the longest time

  • Ya sounds pretty high BUT ya how much can you make in japan is the better question!!!

  • sop how much does an average person earn in Japan tokyo

  • TOKYO RULES ! WOO HOO !!!!!!!!!!

  • @92FREESPIRIT said like a true man :D haha TOKYO FTW :DD

  • actually, your balls have a lower temperature than the rest of your body.

  • @LoveeuuKarryaa727 hehehhehe no.

  • Funny he'd mention the earthquake thing... :x

  • Bdjs

  • @LoveeuuKarryaa727 Does talking like that make you feel good?

  • try to survive with 1k $ in oslo .. good luck

  • @pestprinz thats about 10 pizzas in oslo right?

  • wow, earthquake reference

  • @glitterboymakeup I know :'(

  • It's not as expensive as NYC :-/ I live in Queens which is one of the 5 boroughs of NYC. For a crappy basement apartment with bad electricity,My family and I pay 1,200 a month. Food here is expensive and let me not get started on utilities. Plus it doesn't help that the MTA(public transportation) raise up the bus and train fares almost every year.

  • Its now like 90 yen to the dollar....wow

  • I wonder how expensive it is now....:/

  • Living in Japan can't be as much as London... £1.30/$2 for a Coca Cola (500ml)?! I mean WTH!

    ¬_¬

  • food is really cheap in japan

  • if you are thinking about total of living ...

    Apartament 700$ month

    Internet 67$ month

Electric 37$ (60$ in summer cause hot)

    Sewage and water 20$ (month)

    Gas Heath$Cooking 40$ (month)

    Phone 100$ (month)

    Food-Lunch 4$ (day)

    TOTAL --> 1084

    WITHOUT DINNER!

  • @akagodofheaven That's cheap, my friends paid that much per month on a 2 bed apartment in Beckenham, UK (not the nice part either).

  • @akagodofheaven thats cheeper then where I live >_> in america

  • @akagodofheaven Depending on the city in Brazil, the total cost in this list is way cheaper. Apartment can be lower in some cities, but the rest is the same or even more expensive. The avarage salary in medium sized and larger cities in Brazil is around $900 (US dollars), taking into account US$ 1 = BR$ 1.70. Everybody in the family must work and this is why even adult single sons and daughters don't leave home.

  • @akagodofheaven less than sweden.

  • 104 can't compare to Arizona :P

  • if i were to live in the part the is close or in the middle of the night life ? ? ?

how much would it cost me per month if it were a one bedroom studio apartment in a good building

  • @oldlyswansea well that would be the place where he is in the video (roppongi) and like he said thats not the cheapest to be. other choices would be shinjuku or shibuya if it's about the night life. rents are pretty much the same in those places. so to answer your question: one bedroom studio apartment in a good building(!) in places like that (walking distance) start from 2000$. if you take out the good building thing you could find an apartment from around 800$

  • @CaptainShinjuku that's $2,000 a month fuck me lol lol or is that to buy

  • if i were to live in the part the is close or in the middle of the night life ? ? ?

how much would it cost me per month if it were a one bedroom studio apartment in a good building with lots of lovely women loll lol lol

  • USD 4000 a month is not too expensive by Hong Kongers' standard.

  • cool,i was watchin you when you first started and found you to watch again.very cool.

  • Price like in Poland in city 400 000 people and more cost living is 1200 amer dolars per month . Japan super chip country

  • @Janosz512 And Japan has very FEW Polish women : )

  • double saver ! :D

  • Cut expenditure advice: Shop once a week and cook your own food, get your friends to call you, dont dine at restaurants every day, and join the gym and use their bath, or wash your groin and armpits; dont take a girl to your house, go to hers [cuts sewage costs] club on weekends only etc. What do you think?

  • Phone bills is not Tokyo's fault.

  • really ggood video man - can you post some more - i miss u man.lol anyway seriously nice vid

  • u spend only 700 dollars a month for a studio in tokyo? in NY it cost 1000-2000 american dollars for a studio.

  • @sukuansnguan 7000 dollars for a studio in japan and 700 for a death trap rat hole in japan.

  • @sukuansnguan good point...but the toyko studio can fit in your nyc kitchen

  • Comment removed

  • @mongrel8mongol Did a white guy do something bad to you when you were young?

  • @mongrel8mongol

Japanese people should quit being xenophobic, and suck a dick.

In a few decades Japan will fall. It's declining already.. Hope you have fun seeing Japan die. Enjoy the technologically advanced world you live in. You won't have the funds to support it though~

  • @Pikaqiu Dude what's your problem?? Almost every country in the world is declining. We have an economic crisis about pretty much everywhere. Japan is a beautiful country despite all it's minus points, just as every country has their beautiful and ugly sides.

Why are you making such retarded comments with no ground?

  • "Tokyo is as hot as balls" HAH you should come to Phoenix,AZ on summer one day. It gets as hot as 115 ferinheight :/

  • @sakur212133 correction: remember that one summer a few years ago it got to 122 F? people made shirts saying they survived haha. yeah... lets move to tokyo.

  • @umumum1 OMG! that time was horrible! I stayed inside most the time with the air con all the way up haha

  • Is it sad that I don't find anything but the phone bill expensive?

  • @Peonardon No, I think 700 dollars a month for rent is pretty average. I couldn't afford 4-7000, but it's less than I expected for a downtown Tokyo condo.

  • living in Osaka is much better. i lived in Osaka city in the Nishi Tenma area. great location and great price. 75,000¥ a month. corner apartment with two great views of the city. internet/cable around 4,000¥. water included in rent. electric was roughly 4,000 (6,000 if i used my dryer a lot). walked to work and the grocery store. i hardly used the trains unless i needed to meet friends in a hurry. when i return to japan, i plan to live in Osaka. Osaka people are friendly and funny.

  • I guess living in japan is more like paying every time you take a breath

  • if i won the lottery... tokyo would be one of the pleces i'd have residence... YOU GO JAPAN! <3 from me.

  • A burger that cost 12 $ !!! It's like a kick in the nuts!

  • Hi, I know this video is quite old, but just in case you're still paying \6,700 for internet... You can get it for \4000 (with an English helpline) through NTT.

  • I living in Hungary, Budapest, in the outside area and i rent a 35 m2 flat for 410$ monthly wich include the electricity, gas, and water for a month. my cellphone payment is about 40$ per a month and my 3G internet bill is 28$ per a month..

I usually spend 85$ to food (i cook myself), and my salary is about 670$ per a month with a half year fresh workplace..

  • thanks for putting up these videos, I'm learning more and more about Japan.

  • no here now, you want to know what is pathetic. i live in the sticks, in kentucky usa. my house is worth $45,000. yet.

    (all monthly)

    House Payment: 600

    Electricity Bill: : 350

    Water Bill : 100

    Cell Phone: 120

    Gas Monthly: 150

not to mention i am out about 160 a week in gas to get to work

So dont tell me I couldnt move there! LOL *^_^*

  • @mama61688 DAMN you electricity bill is ssssoooo expensive O_O

  • @dayuhl2u how come is your electricity bill too high? we only pay less than $100 a month here for electricity. i use NET 10 cell phone and i pay $20 a month. GAS is $30 a month. you may have a lot of appliances in your house running. if your house is worth $45,000 how come you pay 600?

  • @mama61688 wow! lol thats alot! =)

  • @mama61688 Wow. that's about as much as my mom spends on our house.

  • Come baby Asian ladies lushfmlk.info

  • well compared to Europe Tokyo is sometimes MUCH cheaper, but i do agree it can be pretty expensive

  • I pay 64 in NYC for 30/5mbit

  • I like your sarcasm man, "Tokyo is as hot as balls". That's original !! :D

  • Japanese like to travel, they live everywhere, in Every country in the world... But they don't want other nations to live in Japan

  • well now tokyo is the most expensive city in the world!

  • @tracegirl1616 I was thinking about going to tokyo this january for 2 weeks. The airfare is reasonable ($900) . But at 80 yen to a dollar I am afraid accomadations, food, and entertainment will make this trip very expensive. He was quoting these prices at 100yen/dollar. Now it is 80 yen/dollar. My computer froze at the 2;15 mark and i looked into this fellow americans eyes and he looks stressed out to do money worries. A picture says a thousand words. I will not be going to tokyo now

  • @MrJim12341121 oh that´s sad :( but dont worry if you wanna go to other country there´s more cheap places in other parts of the world that are very cool :)

  • @tracegirl1616 can you give me some suggestiions. The American dollar is not worth the paper its written on. You can add 20% to every bill and cost tokyocooney was talking about in this video. I need to get away bad, have some money to spend, but dont want to get wiped out.

  • @MrJim12341121 well i suggest south america it´s really cool if you like party and tropical climate :) like brazil, argentina, panama or costa rica i been there and there really cool and only with 5 dollars you can eat so good or if you wanna go some place in europe i suggest greece because now it´s super cheap because they have serious economic crisis out there!!

  • Ok, now I understand why my American friends say Japan is expensive to live.lol

  • isn't japan supposed to have cheaper internet than america? was ur internet bill an off month or was i misinformed?

  • even K-1 tickets are l3ought in a store..haha

  • they have bill pay.. "Bpay" we have that here in australia

  • even mcdonald's is not cheap here.

  • australia is not cheap to live in here.

  • Why the fuck doesnt Japan connect with the western world more?

they know we LOVE them but wont admit it ! :P

  • @alig567 no we dont , whale & dolphin killers

  • @alig567 If you're up on the mountaintop it takes a loving mind to accept what is in the valley where things arent as nice.

  • I appreciate that you pointed out alternatives and that ultimately how much you spend depends on your lifestyle.

That being said, I live in San Francisco and travel to Japan quite often. I find that San Francisco is actually MORE expensive overall than any city in Japan (the country side is DIRT CHEAP).

I easily pay OVER $12 for a good burger here in S.F. The only things I find to be more expensive in Japan are alcohol and public transport--but its the best in the world, so I can't complain.

  • LOL I'm paying $50 Australian dollars for 120 GB. I only use like 20 GB, if that.

  • Wow, this was a very good video, if you wanna go to Japan, I also like the comedic aspects you put into the video, like the showering part, which was funny lol

Thanks for all the useful information Mr. tokyocooney.

  • I'm quite amazed at how cheap this stuff is... we pay even more here O_o

Internet packed with Tv is 120 euros here... so yeah... xD

  • i thought internet in Japan was cheaper

  • The costs mentioned in this vid almost equal how much I pay here in USA. My internet is $50 & rent's $895 (water & heat are free)... Although I am living in a pretty fancy apt. =D Makes me wanna go to Japan!

  • Wow... That much for just the basic stuff but I still want to go to Japan if there's any easy way fir me to get there let now ok, thx tokyocooney

  • To be fair Japan is outrageously wealthy even the homeless live a life of decadence which leads to it's inflation. We must also remember Tokyo is a global outpost a super city comparable to N.Y.C making living there highly desirable which hikes up prices.

  • It is true that costs of living in Tokyo is not on cheap side. However what are you comparing the costs agaist? People tend to ignore comparing costs against income, specifications, quality etc. Have you ever compared tax rate and other items? What about costs on security thing? Japanese do not need to pay a lot to protect themselves like many Americans have to do. Income tax rate I paid in U.K. was 25% but only 7% in Tokyo. I was paying a lot more when I was living in U.K., for your infomation.

  • @hintofcordial I agree. My friend rented a nice roomy 1 bedroom apartment in Hamamatsu for ¥30000/month!! Also, one has to consider wage as part of the cost of living.

I think its also hilarious when Americans go to Japan and complain how expensive McDonald's and Starbucks are! WTF are they doing at McDonald's or Starbucks? Not to mention that Starbucks and any American company overseas will be more expensive. Starbucks is more expensive in Mexico than in the U.S. Don't ask how I know :x

  • how much an average man earn there?

  • how about gasoline, car insurance, bus/subway tickets etc

  • so 1 jpy is 1 usd?

  • Here in Indianapolis, Indiana-

    Rent for 1 bed apt in nice(white) hood' - $375-475, 99 deposit

Elec - 50 if your careful with AC, 75$ if your pretty careless

Heat/water - alot of apts you can find free heat/water

Food - We have Aldi's/Sav-a-Lot/Walmarts, so you can budget low, cigs 6 a pack

    Internet- dsl 20 a month, cable with basic channels+net - 80

Find a 12 buck on hour job and your pretty comfy.

  • @ShieldWall76 but who wants to live in indiana? :P

  • NORWAY is the most expensive country in the world.but in norway your income is also quite enough that you can easily buy whatever you want and spare a lot of money

  • repunngi is a great area for brothels and hookers.

  • thats funny because i can't find anywhere where i live in california where i can pay $700 for rent. that is unless i want to live among crack dealers or meth head rednecks.

  • man i wish i wasn't too lazy to add all that up...

  • very good, informative video! :)

  • The list states that Norway is the most expensive place

My small, but modern apartment costs 4100 NOK, about 700$ each month (rent, all bills, electrical, internet). Its actually quite good compared to what other people have, but its not all that great anyway.

    1 Litre of milk costs 11 kr = 1$80c

A pack of filterciggarettes costs 77 kr, thats over 13$!

Lunch at my school is "cheap" - about 40 kr ( no coffee, no newspaper, just food + juice)

A PINT OF BEER IS 70 KR AT A BAR! THATS OVER 10$!

  • @lastho Ahh, och en back öl : 24 styckna kostar helt sjukt mycket på systemet i Norge.

  • Healthy Insurance: 50.000 yenes/year.

  • Stop your babble, why are you in tokyo?

  • Don't be too freaked out by the information in this video. Something like Kevin's burger will be expensive for sure, but I just went shopping at Jusco and got 1 liter OJ, 1 liter milk, small loaf of bread, cheese, 12 packs instant ramen, and two liters of water for the same price.

In my opinion, the most expensive thing in Tokyo is train commuting, as far as the ratio goes. You can spend 10 dollars or more a day just on the train rides.

Tip: Do as Kevin said and don't live like a foreigner.

  • in california, rent in a closet sized apartment is 1,600-2200 starting

  • @darklink09 I know it sucks ;-;

  • LOL, $37-70 dollars for electric, expensive?

In Maryland, BGE is ripping us off at almost $170+ for the townhouse I live in, and that's for Spring and Autumn. Winter + Summer is nearly $210 per month.

    '''''OTZ

  • @northatlanticjewel

Wasn't O'Malley suppose to fix the BGE problem?

  • wow i guess it'd probably be too expensive for me to actually live in Tokyo lol...i definitely wanna visit though.

  • OMG... 1.5k++ for coffe and newspaper thats overskill...

in singapore a local coffe from a coffeshop is like... 70 to 90cents !? SGD and newspaper is about 1buck...

note to self visit japan but nver live in japan...

  • Wow.. Now that is cheap.

    Here in Florida

    Water bill 200+

    Electric bill 320+

Internet (Bright house) Tv I think almost 200 I don't remember.

    Rent 1200 for a 4 bedroom 2.5 bathrooms and a pool.

Cell phone bill is expensive. (AtnT) Bought an Iphone 4

individual plan:135$ per month -_- So yeah.

  • "One the will kill you" AHAHAHAHAHAHHA i loled at this so bad!

  • holy cow - 67 bucks for internet... I pay only 13 bucks for internet and my download speed can go up to 2 megabytes/second..

  • Is love to live in Tokyo. By I can't believe it's like 100¥ for $1! That's crazy. It would be kind of easy for an American to live there.

  • Pretty cheap. Try living in Paris.

  • wow... now a dollar will get you 86 yen. (As of today)

  • 髭剃った?

  • 67$ 70$ not that expencive.

  • @16technokid wat do u mean 67-70$ a day? week? =S

  • @420kayoe420 His payments.

  • how much do some jobs pay over there?

  • japan is so damn expensive! but still a nice place though :(
