@EJ160E Not necessarily... Would the Dolphins have won? Probably not, but I think it would have been a MUCH better game... Dolphins were 4 plays away from 14-2 that year... and they did finish with the #1 offense in the NFL (The Niners had more Points, the Fins had more yards)... I rate this as the 3rd best Dolphin team in the Marino era (Behind 84, which was an offensive juggernaut and 90 which was a more complete team)... :)
This contest began a seven-game postseason losing streak for the Chiefs, one which continued in the 2010 AFC Wild Card Playoff against the Ravens. The Chiefs just can't get anything right in the playoffs, can they?
@FutureNewsAnchor Actually, this one was the 2nd in line... they lost the 1993 AFC Championship game (Montana Vs. Kelly) to start the string. Hard to believe that their last playoff win, Against Houston in the 1993 Divisional Round, still is their most recent and started the spiral that sent the Oilers to Tennessee)... The early-mid 90s had some awesome QB playoff matchups... :)
I love the MNF alternate theme used here, and I wish that I could have a copy of it. All that exists on YouTube is the reworked 1998 version with added electric guitar riffs.
@WREYtube Remember when Montana was only great because he played for the Niners? Old as he was him and OLD Marcus Allen took the Chiefs 1 game away from the SB. Don't forget that same year the Chiefs beat Elway led Broncos and Young lead 49'ers
@tellthetruthg Yup... Joe was still a great QB... he played a great game in his finale against Miami... it would have been interesting to see how far the Chiefs would have gone with him in 95 (I am assuming they would not have lost to the Colts in the Divisional Round)... :)
"The Dolphins are a much more complete football team than they were earlier in this, in this football season." Uh, Dan? If they were more complete, they'd have made a deeper run, possibly even winning the Super Bowl.
@FutureNewsAnchor I may be biased, but I think this was the 2nd or 3rd best team Marino had (Behind 84 and perhaps 90) and was probably the best team in the AFC... very poor special teams cost them 4 games or they would have been 14-2... and if the Steelers hadn't laid down against the Chargers in wk 17, the Fins would still have had a bye, avoiding the fiasco that happened in San Diego the following week... The SB-home team Fins were definitely the only team capable of challenging the Niners.
@FutureNewsAnchor I think that they where imbalanced they was the problem during the divisional round. They needed to run the ball more.Miami definitely could have beat the 49ers especially because that would have been a home game for them. I think alot of people wanted to see the Steelers vs 49ers that year tho
@FutureNewsAnchor Shula blew out his Achilles late in the season and was relegated to the cart for the rest of the season... I am sure he wanted to use it as a weapon to run over the officials the following week... :)
The next season, Joe Montana would join the NFL on NBC studio crew, but he would be fired at year's end because of poor performance. If you're interested in seeing just how bad he was, HamptonRoadsTVFan will have footage up next week.
17th anniversary

@EJ160E (Shaking Head) Marino's last, best shot at a Super Bowl... can't believe it has been 17 years already... :(

Thanks Joe Cool.

The theme music makes me smile with joy because of how triumphant it sounds. That last chord makes it sound so final.

Why was Don Shula in a wheelchair in that last shot before the ABC Sports closing bumper?

@WREYtube Was there an Achilles epidemic in Miami (Shula blowing his out following the same injury wiping out Dan Marino's season a year earlier)?
