you will miss your thum-bone with EVERY MOVEMENT (even of the shoulder+arm)! The doctor said befor the thumb-op: "you will play piano like before"! BIG LYER!!!! Sitting at the piano has become the moments of BIGGEST FRUSTRATION: the fingers do not work, the feeling is SO STRANGE!, the (now disturbed) impulses from the hand to the cervical spine are so bad, I always cramp at the shoulder/neck-area by trying to play! The hand wants to function as before!!!! But this funct.is deeply disturbed!
....then change your eating! Remind: the problems in hand usually arise from the cervical spine and spine bone! Leg-length-difficulties arise out of this and ---> all lead to thumb-problems. Also eating too much sugar and grains leads to arthritis. If you just operate the thumb you can STILL have the ache afterwards, bc. the system tthat led to the problems was NOT influenced. But in the future you will be a different person:
I have THAT strong problems after such an op! Is here anybody who must confirm me that he/she have also problems in ALL the muscles of the WHOLE ARM! Doctors abd physiotherapist told me, that I SHOW THE TYPICAL PROBLEMS of such an op: ppl have constant arm-problems that can lead to cervical spine probs (cerv.spine-probs were the UNTREATED CAUSE BUT WORSENED through the thumb-op) I want to stringly beg ppl to NOT make such an op,just go to a hand physiother. (who will treat your spine etc.)
I had this surgery two years ago on my left hand, hardly any pain and it worked a hundred per cent. Had the right hand done 2 weeks ago but without the tendon graft, again hardly any pain afterwards.....here's hoping when the wrappings and stitches come off it will have worked just as well as I'm right handed and struggling with only my left hand for now !!
I had a similar surgery done in 2008 but the thumb joint had to be replaced and a plate and screws inserted. The joint didn't hold up and I lost all use of my thumb. Had reconstructive surgery done three days ago but I understand that barring any complications that the thumb arthroplasty shown in this video is usually highly successful. I had very little pain with the first surgery.
I had this done last Wednesday. There's no pain after the surgery, that is until the block wears off. You will begin to feel the incisions before you can move your fingers. Start taking your pain meds at this point. Take the maximum allowed. The block wears off rather suddenly and the pain is indescribable. You can take a double dose at this point. They gave me morphine and tramadol and I needed to double up on both and take benadryl to knock me out. It's better the next day.
Thanks for putting this online. I'm having this done tomorrow in Halifax, Nova Scotia and this provided me with an excellent visual explanation of the procedure. Excellent video - thanks.
just recently had a surgery for a comminuted fracture of right trapezium and told i would get arthritis when im older !! are there any downsides to the procedure shown here as i may opt for it down the line and would you reccomend it
