  • Nice!

    what Lens?

  • More photo videos!

  • As far as functionality goes, it does a little more more than add shots without having to change batteries. It has a shutter release on the side so you can easily take portrait shots without bending your wrist. It also makes holding the camera more comfortable for extended shooting. I shoot with a D2Xs and hate the feel of the D90 without the grip. It does add the appearance of a pro grade camera but is that a bad thing? I also have a grip for our D60. They are just comfortable and convenient.

  • Besides holding 2 batteries which will give you more shots, I think Grips are just for show. It's bigger and it looks like a professional camera. I don't hate it, In fact I have one and I like it, but for useful functions, it's pretty much useless. Spend the money towards better lens or get yourself a flash.

  • Just got my Nikon D90 grip today and really pleased with it AAAAA++++++. When it comes to grips stick with the genuine Nikon like Aaron said in his video,as don't forget this has an electrical circut inside and you don't want to mess around with cheap chinese copies and bugger up your expensive Nikon body.

  • Can you tell me if the battery grip will fit all nikon cameras?

  • @gapsinteeth123 I think it only attaches to the D80/D90

  • @aaroncaserta

    only d80/d90

  • I just bought the cheaper flashpoint battery grip, it is 1/3 the price which was the main reason for me to buy it. I've used it for now ca 10 hours and it works great! I also bought it with a cheaper battery, which is pretty much like the Nikon brand. The flashpoint grip has a great reputation and there are bunch of positive reviews on adorama.

I would really go with that instead of the MB-D80...

  • Good review. Left out the fluff and got to the core of it ;)

  • no it doesn't increase the FPS... if that's what you're referring to. it still stays at 4.5 fps. you only get and increase with the grip if you have a D300s or D700.

  • Yeah, I was wrong when I did the video and corrected it a day or so later with the annotation and addendum in the side notes.

  • oh right on! I just picked up the MB-D80 grip and a genuine EN-EL3e Nikon battery for $150 for my D90...awesome deal i couldn't pass up. next thing i need to pick up is a flash and im leaning towards the sb-600. should be more than enough for portraiture

  • i have the same d90, i wonder if you experience the so-called "hot pixels"?

  • I have not had this issue with my D90 but I have read about it and it is a valid problem.

  • starting 0:50 seconds....you shouldn't be holding a camera that way man....your left hand should always be holding below the barrel of the lens...your holding it completely wrong. I will guarantee you most of your images will be blurry if you hold the way you just showed in this video....plus who cares if a camera looks "weak" without a grip...are you one of those whores who collect gear and hardly ever shoot with it? LOL I kid!

  • Ugh, this is not a video on how to hold your dslr... I was just holding it to show the lens size vs camera body. I have never shot with it like that lol. I do believe that clients will feel better about paying when your gear looks good though. I may whore up equipment but it has paid for itself many times over. lol

  • I have the D90, 18-200 VR, MB-D80, SB-600 and 35mm 1.8. Love 'em all!!!

Nice video. Thanks for taking the time.

  • I have a D90 and 18-200 mm at the moment and I am planning to but either the MB-D80 or the nikkor 50 mm f1.8.. could you help which one to buy??

  • @amierkilua That is a good lens.

It all depends on what you want. If I were you, I would get the lens then save for the battery grip.

  • Very good Video!

    Thank you for uploading.

  • thanks for the reply aaron, yeah its kind of weird, i would have to leave the grip somewhat untightened for it to recognize the battery...inserting two batteries though seems to fix the problem.

  • Interesting. If it is under warranty I would exchange it.

  • thanks for the vid, do you need to buy extra batteries or does it come with any?

    -ChrisEvin

  • Yep, you will need to buy your own batteries. I would recommend Nikon brand only. I heard off-brand batteries didn't work well with the MB-D80.

  • Picked up another battery. We are digging the grip so far.

Thanks for posting this helped with making a decision.

Looking forward to checking out some other vids of yours.

  • Hey, I was looking into buying this grip...But I was wondering if it was made out of some cheap plastic. I ordered a grip online and it was plastic to my surprise. It felt extremely cheap. So what is the grip material made out of? Thanks!

  • Well, it doesn't feel extremely cheap but the quality does not feel as good as the body of the d90. You can tell little difference but it's still a great product.

  • Thanks! And is there any grip that you know of that ISN'T made out of plastic?? I tried looking it up but I came up empty handed.

  • do you have trouble with the connection between this grip and the battery connector on the D90? i've been having this type of problem.

  • no I actually haven't had any problems with that but I have read that others have...

  • hm... at 0:30-0:58 just wanna correct something... don't you usually put your left hand under neat the lens and right hand on one of the grips? that's what the vertical grip for.

  • Hey, yes of course you hold it with your left hand under the lens and right hand on the right side of the camera. I was just trying to make a point of how it can feel holding a small camera with a heavy lens.

  • Oh ok just making sure ;)

  • Way to feel like a pro.

  • lmao why the fuck would you be using an on camera flash with a 70-300??

  • Well, first of all I've never actually used that exact setup for anything. I was just putting as much equipment on the camera as possible to illustrate in the review the need for the extra grip that the MB-D80 provides.

Secondly, seeing as how the minimum focus distance of the 70-300 is 1.5 meters and the maximum range of the flash is 20 meters; technically, this setup would definitely work. Do your homework before you make a fool of yourself next time.

  • If you say so batman, try it out and I think you'll see what I'm talking about.

  • Haha, awesome.

  • hilarious.

  • @AlexMoores Portraits at 70mm rookie?

  • @AlexMoores because it looks cool. lol

  • Nice review i bought a third party battery grip from amazon Zeikos battery grip Feels great and good quality

  • Good Job on the review. I appreciated the info and will buy the MB-D80 for my D90 based in part on the info I gained from your video. Suggestion: Having to go back and add a correction hurts your review. Do all the research and then review the product. Your review has more "meat" to it if you know the product and can example some of the reasons you like it or hate it. List out your pros and cons and then hit them all. Good Job though.

  • Cool! Useful information ;))

  • When you add the battery grip it feels like you are holding a D1X or other pro model Nikon. It feels great; I would highly recommend it.

  • How much difference is there in size and weight with the grip? I'm getting a D90 soon and I want the battery grip too.
