Yeah, he's using the delay pedal to get that badass echoing pizzicato. On the album it says he's using "eventide pizzicato," whatever that means. I think that means he uses a synth on the album, but the live shows he uses delay :P

eventide make rackmount effects. he's probably using the same thing as he recorded in the studio with, and controlling it with his floorboard.
