Debit Card Fiasco (plus EP info and contest for you!)

I work at a supermarket and people often pay with debit cards. We have a "pre-swipe" feature that's supposed to speed things up by allowing customers to swipe the card as I'm scanning their items and enter in their PIN later.

...9 times out of 10 they'll try and 'pre-swipe' AFTER I've pressed Enter which brings up the payment options but BEFORE I press 'debit'... it's like a 1 second window. They ALWAYS do it then at that exact moment. It ALWAYS results in an error.

It makes me wanna punch them.

Perhaps they do it to prevent fraud. Probably too many persons complaint of being overcharged or getting their cards cloned, so that the companies, in order to step away from trouble decided the customer to do the job so that they had nothing to do with overcharging or anything.

I find it funny about debit in America. In Canada we've had debit (everywhere) for the last 15+ years. I know for most Americans they had no idea what this is. But yeah. We are all very quick and efficient with debit. Haha.

Just helping a customer check out entailed asking for their digits, address, email, whether they wanted to sign up for this, get a card for that, inform them of these coupons, everything. I got so many dirty looks, I'm surprised no one ever got fed up and walked away. Card terminals are a cakewalk compared to B&BW.
