  • DO NOT JOIN THE NAVY IF YOU WANT TO BE A RESCUW SWIMMER AND ACTUALLY DO YOUR JOB. THE COAST GUARD HAS THE REAL SWIMMERS. NAVY SWIMMERS DO NOTHING BUT SIT IN THE BACK AND HOPE THE HELO DOSE NOT CRASH.

  • dam i'm old did sar training in 1980 at jax fla served with hsl-36.the h-60's were just coming in.the videos are nice brings back alot of good memories, and i was in alot better shape

  • whats the MOS for the aircrew members on the guns?

  • @tangokilla11 The navy has rates not MOS, and all helicopter aircremen are either AWS or AWR. Fixed wing aircrewmen can be AWO,AWF, and AWV

  • All the good old days. =D I went from saving lives in the Navy as a Swimmer to taking them as a Marine,... irony.

  • God I feel old, it was 1984, 27 years ago that I went to FL. and trained for aircrew, served with HC-11 Gunbearers 1985-1988 and now its just some really cool memories, God bless and fly straight. Flew in a CH-46...Never flew in a 60

  • @hallrw45 You feel old? I was trained in 1977 at Pensacola ARSS, Navy SAR. Served with HS-9 Sea Griffins 1978-1982. It was really hard work but I have some good memories. We rode the SH-3H Sea King.....Never flew a 60 either.

  • Gosh! I hope my son will make it through the training doe. I can dive 30ft way back when I was in the Phil. Gees! Idk now? I'll save him in a hard beat if I have too Lol...

  • swore into the navy today!!!! go to basic june 27 fthen to pensocola, florida for aircrew training!!!

  • @BigAL6767 have fun rocking that m240 bravo :D

  • nice vid. does everybody who signs up and passes screenings/tests in aircrew have the option to train to fly aircrafts?

  • So Others May Live Ooo-Rah

  • @invertedstyles do you know how wrong that sounds (so othters may live AF PARA RESCUE...OOORAH IS MARINES...)

  • @ARMA365 "that others may live" is the pj's, "so others may live" is the navy and coast guard sar.

  • @ARMA365

Son I've been a Search and rescue swimmer for over 10 years now "So others May live is the motto for all search and rescue crews including coast guard, and your right about Ooo Rah being just for the marines, Which would then make me a SAR Marine for VAQ-141 Shadow Hawks go figure. Do your research before you tell a active duty Marine about Military motto and traditions.

  • @invertedstyles In the navy it's hooyah not ooorah

  • @VagineND I'm not in the Navy I'm a Marine rescue swimmer and its OO-Rah civilian......

  • Awsome Vid, well done. Whats the name of the song?

  • joining this and want to be the pilot :D

  • so when the recruiter asks okay what job do you want and you say AW this is what your in for for real?

  • @skaterjrd99 Yes, but this is not a daily thing what you are seeing. There is a lot of ground training and other things that are not nearly as glamorous. This is just a small collection of shots over an entire deployment.

  • @rescueswimmer84 oh okay i see so like what type of ground stuff? its either HM this or MA when i go to choose. i take it you have experience as an AW? message me if u like

  • @skaterjrd99 well its a KICK ASS VIDEO

  • @NewsomeFtball09 what??

  • @rescueswimmer84 The only thing real about this video concerning a SAR is the flying around in a helo and jumping out the right hand door. Other than that...guns not included. We save people. Last note: When you do get into a a rescue situation...it is the worst possible weather conditions...aka...sphincter pucker.

  • @skaterjrd99 lol i meant to send it to rescueswimmer84. haha sorry for the confusion lol

  • what program did you use to edit this video?

  • @NewsomeFtball09 windows movie maker

  • @NewsomeFtball09 well its a KICK ASS video

  • i hear that the phsyical training requirments have the minimum requirments but you have to do way more than that just to actually make it

  • great production.. I have mad pics and need help with a vid can anyone help.. swimmer from (04-10)

  • cool vid. wish i had some of my old stuff to share. was with HS-14 from 1990-1994, HSL-84 94-98 as a reservist.

  • haha less than a year im going to do this

  • Just FYI... For those who don't know... Navy Air Crew (Including wet crewmen) do not "Fast Rope," or carry MP5's, as is seen in this clip... But they do everything else...

The people fast-roping and running out of helicopters toting MP5's are either Seal's or EOD

  • bad ass vid

  • Kind of hard to believe I used to do that stuff...Lightning Strikes....DAY and NIGHT!

  • I want to become an AW ! but i think im too skinny :(

  • Comment removed

  • i want to do this sooo bad in the future!

  • hey rescueswimmer84. HAHA. I was at HS5 from July05-Jan10. When did you serve?

  • Very inspirational video. My shipping date is in June 2011. Gonna be doing exactly this hopefully.

    Navy SAR Wet Aircrew.

  • is being an rescue swimmer combat oriented, or is that more the domain of PJs?

  • @marleynrs8 is a special operations I think my friend said its one level under the SEALS but very little combat

  • @leslie12180420 lol idk if ur saying it relates to seals in any way cause it doesnt u will see almost 0 combat as aircrew if ur wet u will be on a ship attached to a squadron maybe if ur dry u will get lucky enough to fly over a combat zone probably 0% chance of actually shooting at someone

  • @leslie12180420 AIRR is more than one level under the SEALs....in fact there is no comparison. and by very little combat your friend actually means no combat at all.

  • i put in a package for AW rescue swimmer, i am a pit snipe right now and i cant stand being down there anymore and so AW is the only way to go.

  • Rescue Swimmer=Ownage

  • hahah thats my ship

and those AWs get all the girls. I think it has somethin to do with the flight suits

  • good video, in the navy right now and going to cross rate aw hopefully

  • @78720 You little puddle pirate join the real military get out of your little puddle you call the coast and hit the real ocean.

  • I ship to great lakes june 16th!!! I can't wait!! AW baby!!!

  • AIRC Garcia. leaving to great lakes sep.21 as well, hoooyah!! AW!!

  • oh wow... they are going to ship me in september..AIR CREW FTW

  • This is awesome...i'm thinking of changing my rate from AO to AW i wanna be an Aviation Warfare Specialist!

  • man i cant wait i watch videos like this and wanna leave soo bad..july 6th is my ship date!

  • AW`s always saviing somebodies ass in the fleet !!

  • im going into the coast guard in 3 years :)

  • cool!

  • F**K you puddle pirate join the real military get out of your little puddle you call the coast and hit the ocean where its the real thing.

  • Hi guys! I'm thinking of joining the navy and I also want to be a member of the Air Rescue Swimmer.. The thing is, during my childhood days, I wasn't given the chance to learn how to swim properly but I believe I have the heart to be one of those rescuers. Do they teach you proper training or the very basics? Or One should already know the basics before joining?

  • I'm coming in a bit late on this, but if you are still thinking about being a rescue swimmer, you need to have a lot of heart, a lot of determination and no quit in you. You have to be willing to push yourself harder than you ever thought you could both on land and in the water. During your time at Aircrew and in Starboard-D you'll have time to swim with fins, but I would recommend getting a pair of super rocket fins and start swimming at your local YMCA.

  • Hey RS84, regarding the clip of the person repelling. Was that one of the AW's in your shop, or was it an SOF guy?

  • it was actually a EOD member

  • we work with all manner of SOF

  • hey i have a question for u i have the tryouts for sar in a month what exactly are the tasks and requirements??

  • To see how mann pull ups you can do, push up you can do in two min, sit ups in two min. A mile an a half run in under 12 min, a 500 meter swim. All this is back to back. pretty easy. Also you need to be a class two swimmer if you are already in the navy.

  • @rescueswimmer84 I was told you have to be a minimum of class 3 swimmer or you will be discharged from basic.....I have to do 20 pushups 50 situps in 2 miniutes....2 pullups.....1.5mile run in 14:45 and a 500 meter swim cuz im female so mines different (ive been training since April so Im hoping I can lose this weight i need to so im not in DEP forever

  • @leslie12180420 They make us do less, as a female? Do you know how long they give us to do the 500 meter swim? I'm starting to get ready for all this. I'm only a senior in high school, so I'm in DEP and I'm using all this time to get ready so I can earn my contract ASAP :D

  • @wtfnicolew im not sure if you go to navy.com it should tell you or ask your recruiter, mine told me that women get more time for the run and swim and do less pullups pushups and situps. Im on a medical hold right now. if your going Air rescue you want to do more than just the requirements. Person from my DEP just got out of bootcamp and got DQed from air rescue sadly, so Im not sure if im going spec ops now or not he worked really hard and still didnt make cut!

  • sorry but no, all PT standards are the same for men and women in Rescue Swimmer, the ocean does not care if you are a girl. Everyone is held to the same standard.

  • @wtfnicolew ur going 2 be an ars??

  • @rescueswimmer84how does someone with no navy experience become a class two swimmer? I plan on joining after college, do you get class two training in navy basic training? Also do aw man the door guns like in the video, thanks!

  • Just so you all know, before you go to boot camp make sure you are going into the Navy for the job you really want. If its rescue swimmer SEAL SWCC or CS i dont care just sign the contract BEFORE YOU GO! Yes you can change your job after a few years. But you are only aloud to request a new job, this does not mean the Navy will grant your request! Trust me im the one who made and posted this video.

  • For everybody who is about to begin training, or already in it, I wish you all good luck. I was not too excited about becoming a rescue swimmer after failing BUD/S, but it's a very rewarding rate, and I've come to enjoy it a lot. However This job is not for you if you struggle academically, or can't think fast on your feet. The academics are HARD! Your training will never stop, and a lot of it is challenging material. For those who make it to the fleet, I hope to meet you one day.

  • Hope the school is this fun. I'm going to ACCS in feb looking FWD to it. BTW I'm not an AW.

  • Comment removed

  • hey, i was thinking about trying to crossrate to aw. whatre some of the requirements?

  • This video gets me pretty hype about being an ATF/AIRR. Just signed on about 2 days ago and i'm thinking it won't disappoint..Hooyah and good luck to everyone, keep charging!

  • At 3:30

holy.. thats a huge middle finger

  • IT IS!!!!!!!

  • Can offiers be rescue swimmers?

  • No, only enlisted personnel can be Rescue Swimmers.

  • The detailers at MEPS are shady workers. I hope you have a good recruiter that is looking out for you, and making sure the information you are getting is correct. 4 years is a long time to work a job you don't like.

  • but, you do know that you can change your job after two years...

and when you finish boot camp, they are going to ask you again to confirm that you really want your job...if not, then decline and they'll assign you a new one...

  • Yeah, the detailers are extremely shady. My recruiter is really looking out for me, he is literally forcing me to go to every spec ops workout they have. And to answer your question, the physical screening (for me at least) takes place at a YMCA where you sign in for the field you're going for. After that, they time you in swimming 500 yards followed by a mile and a half run and then sit ups/dead hang pull ups/ push ups. If you don't meet the time, you don't qualify for spec ops.

  • And yes, pa3ckperez is right. You not only have the opportunity to change your job grade after 2 years, but can opt out of it before you leave boot camp if you find out it's not what you made it out to be. And by the way, to become spec ops (from my understanding) you must pass the spec ops test before you ship (this is for newly enlisted, people who have done their job for 2 years have an opportunity to switch into anything they want, including spec ops.

  • Are you saying this is part of navy spec ops? Navy Spec Ops consist of Navy EOD and Navy Deep Sea Divers. Thats it.

  • It also consists of SEALS and SWCC.

  • Wait my bad, I'm getting everything mixed up. You're right.

  • rescue swimmer is now in spec ops, just talked to my recruiter the other day

  • I must ask though, as it was completely different when I went through MEPS. When you mean taking the test, are you referring to the physical screening test for that job? If so, are you going to be tested before you ship out, or after your arrival in boot camp?

I don't like the idea that they had you sign up for a different rating. SO is it's own rate. You should have been required to take the PST, as long as your ASVAB was good.

  • From what I understand, when you go to MEPS for the first time, you'll be offered your job ratings based on your ASVAB score. Don't let them try and pull you into another rating. If you want to be an AW Rescue Swimmer onboard an H-60, you need to specify that. As of right now those 2 ratings are AWR, and AWS. AWS will be more strike oriented, and NSW support, whereas AWR is more anti-sub warfare, and anti-mine.

  • Aresye, I just went through the MEPS station. You cannot pick any special forces job like AW until you pass the special forces test. I myself enlisted as an aviation technician and will be taking my Special Forces test soon to switch into SEALS. Same goes for the Nuclear Program, even after getting processed you can't choose to do it until they get ahold of your high school transcripts.

  • aw is not spec ops bro.

  • No, the AW rating is not spec ops but the rescue swimmers are spec ops. All rescue swimmers are now AW's. You do have AWs thar fly fix wing aircraft also, they are not spec ops. I know, I'm a rescue swimmer instructor.

  • so does that mean that I was spec ops? I was a flyer on the EP-3's and I got out right after the aircrew rates merged. I am getting back in too. Hows ARSS instructor duty? I wanted to be an NACCS instructor but it was all locked up.

  • No. Only the Rescue Swimmers of the AW rate are considered Spec Ops now. Good luck. I'm a retired Navy Rescue Swimmer and have been a civilian instructor at ARSS for 7 years now. Best job in the world!!!

  • thats good because I was about to start laughing my ass off if all AW's were now considered spec ops. Have you seen some of the fatties that make it through NACCS? I flew with some that couldn't pass the regular PRT.

  • Remeber that not all students going through NASSC are in the AW rate. The Navy sends a lot of senior fleet sailors through the NACCS that have a hard time making it.

  • Hey men Respect! Got a question Navy Rescue Swimmers are stationed on Aircraf Carriers? or where? Besides Rescue operations they do regular patrolin in the Seas or trhings like that?

  • Where ever a helicopter is there are swimmers, aicraft carriers, frigets, plus some shore duties. We do everything a helicopter can do, not just rescues but passenger transfers, mail and cargo plus air support. You can also be involved in drug intervention and working with other services.

  • Okay so i have my physical for the navy this monday coming up, so what do i do to become an AW? do i tell my recruiter or the people at th ephysical when they offer me the jobs?

  • I just got back from meps, I am a prior, You will speak to a classifier at the end of your day, after you pass medical and then they will show you what you qualify for and what you can pick. Then you sign the contract. Just get what you want, not many options right now though.

  • Sick Video. Go Navy!

  • Comment removed

  • Navy Aircrew is part of the navy seals?

  • No lol...

  • Guys, I was an AW for 20 years. Just retired.. When I went through, they drowned a guy at RSS.

The best advice is NEVER QUIT!!! I told myself that they would have to peel me out of the bottom of that pool before I would Quit. Have fun at SERE school. It's all worth it in the end.. If it was easy, everyone would do it..

  • I have always wanted to be a pilot, but now this looks like more fun. Is it a good job?

  • Yes they did kill that student. I was assigned as an RSS Instructor after the incident (the 2 Instructors had already been transferred). Officially the Medical Review Board found that the kid died of a "heart attack" while being held underwater too long during drownproofing (sadly ironic). The kid was considered unmotivated by the Instructors, was claustrophobic and a weak swimmer. He tried to get out of the training...no one helped.

The 2 Instructors received a 'reprimand' for the death.

  • i'm leaving july 9th for basic then naccs for aircrew then rescue swim school. any advice?

  • Yeah, don't call it basic. It's boot camp.

  • 1. Keep a good mental attitude.

    2. Give it your best ALL THE TIME!

    3. Enjoy it. It's best job you'll ever have.

  • when you go to aircrew school and rescue swim school, be ready to pt ALOT. Those two schools are meant to weed out weaklings and quitters. Easiest way to make it through: Dont quit, stay loud and motivated, stay out of trouble, be on time every time, and make sure your uniform is squared the hell away. Hope that helps.

  • victer is right, im on hold here in pensacola in the aircew barracks waitin to class up for NACCS and RSS.....

  • I went thru in 1996 and aircrew school was alot harder than it is today. Have fun at RSS my buddy is the lead instrutor and he loves PT.

  • I think I'm going to like my new job

  • Japan... ACK!!!
