I didnt understand why so many ppl hated vista. after installing it I really liked it's new look and all but there were just so many processing errors. another thing was that most versions came in 32bit mode and a 64bit was hard to find.
This was like watching a civilization start, rise, peak, and start crumble. The Roman's had extravagance too in their final days (graphic improvements and stylish windows design) but they were still extirpated because of incompetence (why would you remove the directory up button? Breadcrumbs????) and through the devastion of invading hordes (APPLE !). Arg I want to switch to Linux so bad.
"Coming soon: Windows 7, the windows that won't work but at least is not Vista ! " This video was like watching a civilization start, rise, peak, and then crumble. I hate that I'm stuck with 7. I would rather have stayed with XP, and yes 98 worked pretty darn good too. What were the programmers really doing when they were supposed to be improving windows' design and function. Playing solitaire? Although really its probably the higher-ups faults for not demanding a better product.
I still think Win2K was the most stable. After all, Win2K was NT5 and XP was NT5.2 or something along those lines. Same OS, just added an updated gui slowing the system down.
Ah you did this video already! I was planning on doing it but I figured someone had to have already done it. Very good choice of music for this video too by the way.
Yeah I've been loving Windows 7 so much that is why I even did a search to see the windows of past. I remember using Windows 1.0 on my parents old Zenith Data System. Actually the computer ran off of DOS but we had the disc for windows and I would run it just to play reversi.

Out of all Windows OSs, Win7 turned out to be the best. It is pretty fast, doesn't use that much resources and looks stunning. Now it's worth comparing to a Mac. I have both and i now love my both computers equally...
this music is nearly the same same as the end theme in Planes Trains & Automobiles Power To Believe. The more I listen to it the more Iam convinced it is.

My system is old, but I refuse to pay top whack for Vista, when XP does everything I need. Plus, I can do without even MORE bloatware! Classic case of fixing something that isn't broken!
Let me guess, your system is too old to run vista. Maybe you can't afford vista. Either way, you sound like a XP fanboy. What's your deal? Vista is better by far unless you like it old school. If you like XP, fine, but get off the XP wagon.
Umm, wrong, wrong, wrong, (XP fanboy? does this category exist now), and wrong. And wait, yeah that's wrong too.
Not only is XP better relatively (to the times they were released) but when I use my friends Vista laptops, I -and them- really end up having a painful experience.
I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but do you have how many companies after skipped Vista entirely? Forget about the individual end user failure, Vista was on a totally different level of fail.
windows is a joke bottom line. The only thing useful about it is that you don't have to pay for software for it, thats about it. You dont even need to buy it in order to have it.
Does anyone know the Standard hardware requirements to both XP, Vista and OSX?? By standard i mean to run the OS with no problems of slow down and stalling.
Windows isn't a joke, but your system probably is. I run XP and Vista and never had one problem. I don't see what the fuss is about. Also, what are your other options, OSX, ubuntu, linix? I choose Windows over any other OS.
dude my system runs vista like nothing, but when you open up some performance programs, vista is taking up so much ram and cpu time that its insane, no OS should require that much power for doing nothing but starting up. The only useful thing about windows is if you dont wanna pay for software you dont have to and it works flawless.
Well, the way you put it sounds like it's the third party softwares that is slow and not the operating system. For example, Adobe Photoshop is slow because Photoshop is slow, not because of the operating system.
What I'm trying to say is that it might not entirely be Vista's fault that your computer sometimes slow down. Usually, it is third party softwares that slow a system down.
well in my pc i know that could be the case but, at work for example its just windows and office and both laptops are configured the same way, the only difference is one has XP the other vista, and the one with XP runs like lighting. The vista home edition mind you, is slow like hell. I was like come on to have the look and feel of vista needs this much power? like OSX and vista are close copies so why is vista needed a hell of alot more to do less. why would you do that as a company?
Dont get me wrong vista was a nice touch but i think the average computer thats in the store's today wasn't ready to deal with the power of vista, not only that but the non back words compatibility is whats killing everyone too. win7 shouldn't cost over 100 since its still vista just fixed like XP was when it 1st came out with all of its errors and crashes. Why can't microsoft just build on top of what they already have and just add features instead of making new OS's with issues?
I don't know. I guess Microsoft saw something wrong with XP kernel.
The good news is that Windows 7 uses Vista kernel so it all the compatibility issues should not be a big problem. Also, Windows 7 will and is already faster and more stable than Vista because the Vista kernel is pretty much refined now.
Now for Vista, from the RTM, I found it to be a better start than when I first used XP. After SP1, Vista became better and I have found SP2 Beta to be fantastic.
They tried to build the new OS off of the XP kernel. The original project was called Longhorn. They to the point where they realized that the XP kernel is shit. After 3 years, they simply ditched longhorn, and started from scratch, using the updated Server 2003 kernel. This led to Windows Vista. If you have the hardware for it, you'll realize that Vista is the best product ever produced by MS.
True, Vista especially after SP1 flies on modern PC. Vista is better than XP at handling RAM. By that I mean Vista will make better usage of your RAM.
Also, for anyone who finds Vista too slow, it's most likely that they have Aero enabled on an old computer.
And complaining about Vista's compatibility with old programs and hardware is stupid. Remember, you can at least run Vista on a computer from 2003. You can't do that with Mac OS X Leopard.
thank god for that number 7, other wise i would have thought they were the same OS.
Funny how they are going to expect people to pay for windows 7 after paying for vista. how long did they said it took them to make vista?? if your gonna copy OSX do it right the 1st time around. God.
lol @ Randomkaoz's ridiculous comment. Who cares if 7 LOOKS like Vista. The last couple mac operating systems looked very similar to each other too. What a stupid thing to say.
Umm....i'm not one of those non pussy getting computer nerds, but if your gonna sell bullshit to a fly, don't you think you should change the look and feel of the OS if your gonna charge people money as if it was a whole new OS?
You obviously know nothing about marketing. what good would it do for a company to completely overhaul their product's look and feel after a decade of it's customers building familiarity with the product? The trick is to upgrade the product while keeping the familiarity of it in tact.
Let's use your logic. Mac kept it's latest OS very similar looking to the one before it, yet Mac charged people money for it as a new OS did it not?
dude seriously, your either bill gates right hand man or left hand chick.
they are charging people 400 bucks for the same crap that was 400 bucks, I was using Mac has a example, they dont charge people a whopping full 400 and sell BS version of the same crap for less. Why should people have to pay for their screw up?
i dont know man, i think this is just some gimic to make themselves extra money, because i dont see why do people have to pay for vista being a failed OS. and on top of that making 4 different verison, like come on, are you serious.
Dont get me wrong vista looks the way XP should have, but to use up that much resources when the Macs OS doesnt is not a good way to shine. vista home basic used up 800% more then XP and for what? the new search bar? lol.
Windows Vista was released "as-is" because it was taking too long to correct the errors in OS and get everything working (3 years longer than planned when it was released). Windows 7 fixes those errors and finishes what was suppose to be the Vista released years ago.
Using your line of thinking, if I were to buy a new car every year, I should choose based on color instead of features/mechanics... and every car the same color as the one I currently have is not worth the money.
No man the way i'm thinking is that, if your gonna buy a car for 50,000 and it turns out to have a few important recalls, would you be ok with paying 40,000 to fix the recalls and have them throw in a body kit on it. As if it was a whole new car? Thats what windows 7 is. and vista was taking too long?? to who? because i was fine with XP and making codes to change the way it looked when i got bored. if your gonna make something do it right the 1st time. They control 90% of the market, rushing ?
MS wanted Vista completed in 3yrs after XPs release. After 5 yrs they felt they were dumping too much money in development and had to recover some of the costs. You could tell it was rushed by everyones reaction when it was released, all the initial driver/software problems, not to mention Vistas half finished GUI. Im still using XP even though I have a copy of Vista, more than happy with it. I agree it was a very bad move on their part, I just think the "body kit" is not what you're paying for.
Well the only big improvement seen so far is the multi touch screen feature, but what i can't stand from MS is that, they have the money to be creative and bring these out that no one has ever seen, but they don't. They just keep making BS OS's and spend more time and money making service packs for them. Like windows 7 could have been vista if they took their time and made a true 64bit version using XP's coding. Like how OSX is, it's the same OS just added with things through time.
If they take windows 7 and just build off of it, not only would it save money for research but it would make it more possible to have a stable OS. Hopefully this new guy would take windows where steve took apple.
IDK, windows just needs to get their stuff together. Stop making OS's that need super computers to run them and expect the common pc to keep up with it.
At least Vista can run old old computers from 2003, but Mac OS X Leopard can't.
You have to keep in mind Vista was designed for modern PC. Also, the thing that slows down most computers with Vista is the Aero interface which can easily be turned off.
Most of the features that some people complained about in Vista can easily be disabled.
I found with the right hardware, Vista runs faster and more efficient than XP.
then MS really messed up on their part, because if they would have tackled it differently and brought vista out with all that crap turned off, but say hey look what it can do with these recommend hardware people would have accepted it a lot better. A gamer edition with all that crap turned off, with full customization would have been great. Mac owns their stuff so they get away with that. I guess if MS wasn't so backwards compatible their OS's would be a lot better then they can be.
also another thing i think kills windows is that people dont want to buy the monster pc's they want to get these 400 dollar knock offs and expect them to run the latest OS, that's why i think vista home basic should have been just that, really really basic and ultimate for people who can hit the 1,500 and up price tags. I'm just not happy with it being so much of the OSX bite. They need more creative people at windows, look at the 3rd party skins and programs they come up with its amazing.
hi anybody... have vista is to bad for slow ram... and its take much space.. is to have program.... windows 7 will be better thant vista..... faster and like userfrindly... like xp
There was a leaked timeline showing MS planned to release 7 in October 09. You will see it RTM in/before December 09 unless something totally unexpected happens.
Vista was a little rushed because Microsoft was try to keep it head to head with Apple. But if they waited a few months, it could have really shined. After SP1 came out for Vista it felt a lot better. I hope Windows seven can bring something new and exiting to the Windows Family.

windows is a joke bottom line. The only thing useful about it is that you don't have to pay for software for it, thats about it. You dont even need to buy it in order to have it.
Does anyone know the Standard hardware requirements to both XP, Vista and OSX?? By standard i mean to run the OS with no problems of slow down and stalling.
Randomkaoz 3 years ago
Windows isn't a joke, but your system probably is. I run XP and Vista and never had one problem. I don't see what the fuss is about. Also, what are your other options, OSX, ubuntu, linix? I choose Windows over any other OS.
BenjaminLeePalmer 3 years ago 2
dude my system runs vista like nothing, but when you open up some performance programs, vista is taking up so much ram and cpu time that its insane, no OS should require that much power for doing nothing but starting up. The only useful thing about windows is if you dont wanna pay for software you dont have to and it works flawless.
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
Well, the way you put it sounds like it's the third party softwares that is slow and not the operating system. For example, Adobe Photoshop is slow because Photoshop is slow, not because of the operating system.
jediwizards 2 years ago
What I'm trying to say is that it might not entirely be Vista's fault that your computer sometimes slow down. Usually, it is third party softwares that slow a system down.
jediwizards 2 years ago
well in my pc i know that could be the case but, at work for example its just windows and office and both laptops are configured the same way, the only difference is one has XP the other vista, and the one with XP runs like lighting. The vista home edition mind you, is slow like hell. I was like come on to have the look and feel of vista needs this much power? like OSX and vista are close copies so why is vista needed a hell of alot more to do less. why would you do that as a company?
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
Dont get me wrong vista was a nice touch but i think the average computer thats in the store's today wasn't ready to deal with the power of vista, not only that but the non back words compatibility is whats killing everyone too. win7 shouldn't cost over 100 since its still vista just fixed like XP was when it 1st came out with all of its errors and crashes. Why can't microsoft just build on top of what they already have and just add features instead of making new OS's with issues?
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
I don't know. I guess Microsoft saw something wrong with XP kernel.
The good news is that Windows 7 uses Vista kernel so it all the compatibility issues should not be a big problem. Also, Windows 7 will and is already faster and more stable than Vista because the Vista kernel is pretty much refined now.
Now for Vista, from the RTM, I found it to be a better start than when I first used XP. After SP1, Vista became better and I have found SP2 Beta to be fantastic.
jediwizards 2 years ago
They tried to build the new OS off of the XP kernel. The original project was called Longhorn. They to the point where they realized that the XP kernel is shit. After 3 years, they simply ditched longhorn, and started from scratch, using the updated Server 2003 kernel. This led to Windows Vista. If you have the hardware for it, you'll realize that Vista is the best product ever produced by MS.
Markiash 2 years ago
True, Vista especially after SP1 flies on modern PC. Vista is better than XP at handling RAM. By that I mean Vista will make better usage of your RAM.
Also, for anyone who finds Vista too slow, it's most likely that they have Aero enabled on an old computer.
And complaining about Vista's compatibility with old programs and hardware is stupid. Remember, you can at least run Vista on a computer from 2003. You can't do that with Mac OS X Leopard.

just updated... OEM will be released in Q4... this year,,
MisakiTakahashiJP 3 years ago
thank god for that number 7, other wise i would have thought they were the same OS.
Funny how they are going to expect people to pay for windows 7 after paying for vista. how long did they said it took them to make vista?? if your gonna copy OSX do it right the 1st time around. God.
Randomkaoz 3 years ago
lol @ Randomkaoz's ridiculous comment. Who cares if 7 LOOKS like Vista. The last couple mac operating systems looked very similar to each other too. What a stupid thing to say.
Mac snobs can die in a fire.
BlitztheQB 3 years ago 2
Umm....i'm not one of those non pussy getting computer nerds, but if your gonna sell bullshit to a fly, don't you think you should change the look and feel of the OS if your gonna charge people money as if it was a whole new OS?
Randomkaoz 3 years ago
You obviously know nothing about marketing. what good would it do for a company to completely overhaul their product's look and feel after a decade of it's customers building familiarity with the product? The trick is to upgrade the product while keeping the familiarity of it in tact.
Let's use your logic. Mac kept it's latest OS very similar looking to the one before it, yet Mac charged people money for it as a new OS did it not?
Again, Mac snobs can die in a fire. Period.
BlitztheQB 3 years ago 2
dude seriously, your either bill gates right hand man or left hand chick.
they are charging people 400 bucks for the same crap that was 400 bucks, I was using Mac has a example, they dont charge people a whopping full 400 and sell BS version of the same crap for less. Why should people have to pay for their screw up?

screw ups do have a big cost....but at least finally they've learnt a lesson...
gax908 3 years ago
i dont know man, i think this is just some gimic to make themselves extra money, because i dont see why do people have to pay for vista being a failed OS. and on top of that making 4 different verison, like come on, are you serious.
Dont get me wrong vista looks the way XP should have, but to use up that much resources when the Macs OS doesnt is not a good way to shine. vista home basic used up 800% more then XP and for what? the new search bar? lol.
Randomkaoz 3 years ago
Windows Vista was released "as-is" because it was taking too long to correct the errors in OS and get everything working (3 years longer than planned when it was released). Windows 7 fixes those errors and finishes what was suppose to be the Vista released years ago.
Using your line of thinking, if I were to buy a new car every year, I should choose based on color instead of features/mechanics... and every car the same color as the one I currently have is not worth the money.
WCCobra 2 years ago
No man the way i'm thinking is that, if your gonna buy a car for 50,000 and it turns out to have a few important recalls, would you be ok with paying 40,000 to fix the recalls and have them throw in a body kit on it. As if it was a whole new car? Thats what windows 7 is. and vista was taking too long?? to who? because i was fine with XP and making codes to change the way it looked when i got bored. if your gonna make something do it right the 1st time. They control 90% of the market, rushing ?
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
MS wanted Vista completed in 3yrs after XPs release. After 5 yrs they felt they were dumping too much money in development and had to recover some of the costs. You could tell it was rushed by everyones reaction when it was released, all the initial driver/software problems, not to mention Vistas half finished GUI. Im still using XP even though I have a copy of Vista, more than happy with it. I agree it was a very bad move on their part, I just think the "body kit" is not what you're paying for.
WCCobra 2 years ago
Well the only big improvement seen so far is the multi touch screen feature, but what i can't stand from MS is that, they have the money to be creative and bring these out that no one has ever seen, but they don't. They just keep making BS OS's and spend more time and money making service packs for them. Like windows 7 could have been vista if they took their time and made a true 64bit version using XP's coding. Like how OSX is, it's the same OS just added with things through time.
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
If they take windows 7 and just build off of it, not only would it save money for research but it would make it more possible to have a stable OS. Hopefully this new guy would take windows where steve took apple.
IDK, windows just needs to get their stuff together. Stop making OS's that need super computers to run them and expect the common pc to keep up with it.
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
At least Vista can run old old computers from 2003, but Mac OS X Leopard can't.
You have to keep in mind Vista was designed for modern PC. Also, the thing that slows down most computers with Vista is the Aero interface which can easily be turned off.
Most of the features that some people complained about in Vista can easily be disabled.
I found with the right hardware, Vista runs faster and more efficient than XP.
jediwizards 2 years ago
then MS really messed up on their part, because if they would have tackled it differently and brought vista out with all that crap turned off, but say hey look what it can do with these recommend hardware people would have accepted it a lot better. A gamer edition with all that crap turned off, with full customization would have been great. Mac owns their stuff so they get away with that. I guess if MS wasn't so backwards compatible their OS's would be a lot better then they can be.
Randomkaoz 2 years ago
also another thing i think kills windows is that people dont want to buy the monster pc's they want to get these 400 dollar knock offs and expect them to run the latest OS, that's why i think vista home basic should have been just that, really really basic and ultimate for people who can hit the 1,500 and up price tags. I'm just not happy with it being so much of the OSX bite. They need more creative people at windows, look at the 3rd party skins and programs they come up with its amazing.

thats what they said about vista...and i have it...it = epic fail...too large and uses too much ram, but i do like how 7 is only like 20 megs?
Capnkeez 3 years ago
Windows 7 has already proven to be faster than Vista and incredibly stable.
Microsoft just needs to keep it that way and not mess anything up for the RTM version.
jediwizards 3 years ago
i guess windows 7 came out a little earlier than late 2009/early 2010!

I still believe the RTM version will be released in very late 2009/early 2010, most likely early 2010.
jediwizards 3 years ago
There was a leaked timeline showing MS planned to release 7 in October 09. You will see it RTM in/before December 09 unless something totally unexpected happens.

Vista is designed for modern computers. People who complained Vista is slow didn't have the right hardware for it.
jediwizards 3 years ago
Vista was a little rushed because Microsoft was try to keep it head to head with Apple. But if they waited a few months, it could have really shined. After SP1 came out for Vista it felt a lot better. I hope Windows seven can bring something new and exiting to the Windows Family.
inudogfood 3 years ago 3
Remember it took until SP2 for XP to become really refined.
SP2 for Vista is coming out any time now. It should really make Vista shine and end all the Vista hate.
