Daaaaaaaasyum!! Takes all of a couple of seconds to get the feel and flavor of the unfamiliar instrument with a quick toucy-feely of it and then just flat out OWNS it.
Heheh... "...cause I can play this here guitar..." Hell YEAH! Apparently he CAN! =D
I'm a big 80's rock/metal fan, but I've always held George in the top 5 guitarists of all time. He's a master of the strings in a league of few. Him, Clapton and Chuck Berry would make a heck of a jam session together.
G.B. Total "class" the guys in the band just dont know what to do bless them, they are at a total"loss" and bewildered by his natural talent and ease of playing with there guitar lol...
George Benson is the guitar king. I think this is his best performance of "On Broadway" ,
This is without doubt the best performance of any artist at the Cafe Wha and at any nite club in NYC, and one of the greatest music-guitar performance in New York....
Que espectacular que es Benson.. Hace lo que quiere con la guitarra.. Lo invitaron as subir al escenario y subió y hace una versión muy buena de este tema.. Benson es excelente ...!!! Ray
Phantastic. GB plays a Suhr-type-Guitar and ...oh...whats happening?...He sounds like George Benson !!!! ;o) He's a great Master of the Guitar. Listen to shadow of your smile live 1972. Phenomenal!
Had the Joy of seeing this man perform at the Barbados Jazz Festival around 2000/2001. The same year as EWF performed. He's truly a boss axeman and just a good guy too. When EWF's stuff got stranded in Miami, he loaned them his equipment and it was the bomb! A true musician can play anyone's instrument as if it's his/her own and still rock the house!!! Play on my brother!! Still handsome as ever. He is virtually agelessin my book!!
fuck...that black cat has angels in his fingers.....definitely is true that thing about the sound is not in the gear, but in the hands of the musician...Benson will sound always the best even with an ukelele...so magic touch....
Brother George is the best. Look at the white guy next to him trying not to be impressed.............he only last's a few minutes...........Dam G....u killin it man!!
How amazing - for him to do this - probably the only time in his life that he got up on stage and played someone elses kit... and made it sound good even if it doesn't have that West Coast lilt like the Ibanez. great post and yes George is a legend, a guitarists guitarist
Whats Cool about this is that George is not even playing his Signature Ibanez Jazz Body Guitar. He is using his Students Guitar which is COMPLETELY different in scale length, neck thickness, different pick ups, and construction /build method. The Guitar he is using here is more adept at Van Halen /Hard Rock type music. The Point I'm making i that George, being the Giant Professional he is, can PLAY ANYTHING!!! Amazing. He RULES!!!
This only shows George's ability to make any guitar sound good. Here he picks up a solid body with light string action and makes it sound great. Nice version of his big hit On Broadway. Its just too bad that the bass player did not pick up on George's cues for the chord changes in the song. It's great to lay a groove down but you have to pay attention to the form of the song and especially when George is trying to let you know there's a change coming up.
@intelimundo Yep - that's the first thing I noticed here. Half the skill of jamming is listening. George tries pretty hard a couple of times to cue that chord change but it falls on deaf ears. After a while he gives up and rethinks his solo. Nevertheless, it's a good version - although not quite as good is his version at NAAM with the metronomic drummer and bassist. George has to describe the changes as he plays the song there too, but those guys pick up on it.
WOW...The Groove is just To much, the band was on it with George, I even enjoyed the bass player he was very soulful.
I didn't know George had so much vocal range, he's jazzy... yet... funky, He is truly a legend he knows how to in-clude the audience in his performance. AWESOME-had me bouncing in my seat ! ! !
