i couldn't help but tear up watching this video. everyone always asks me...why be a nurse when you can be a doctor? they should watch this video. I want to be a nurse so I can be by their side 24/7, their support and make a difference whether they realize it or not. I am going to be a sophomore nursing student and this gives me soo much more drive to succeed. thank you. :)
@paularsalas Thank you! Our Nursing campaign has become a huge thing here at J&J and we are happy and want to appreciate all the wonderful things that nurses do! Soon enough you'll be joining that group! :)
When I got to the part about labor & delivery, I couldn't help it, I started crying. This video was so helpful to me because sometimes Nursing school is so hard and I begin to lose my drive. This really touched me because I want to be the woman that helps people through hard times. Thank you.
I am a registered nurse, though a LPN first. This certainly defines many things. I will be using this video when talking to the seniors at my old highschool about nursing careers this Friday. I appreciate the candid perspectives through the eyes of the lives that have been touched from the nurses to the patients. Thank you to the patients that have had the courage to fight and survive, making everyday worth while.
This video is nice but really portrays nurses as support staff; none of these testimonials expresses the clinical skill requirements of the nurse or how hard we actually work. I know some nursing settings are harder than others - however a nursing student viewing this may think (erroneously) that nursing is all about encouragement and hand-holding. It is about that but so much more. Many young nurses leave the profession early because they "didnt know it would be like this."
i work at a long term care here in los angeles and i want to go to sub-acute or acute.. does anyone know any opening in the area? i'm proud to be a nurse. the chance to witness someone's life from the beginning to the end of life..
Nurses are the heart and soul of healthcare, we, Filipino nurses are known for our empathic and caring attitude to our patients everywhere in the world. We wanted to make a similar version of this video tribute but featuring Filipino nurses in the Philippines and how they sacrifice for their patients. This is to celebrate the 2010 International Year of the Nurse. Can JNJ Health help us how? Thanks! ~ Alliance of Young Nurse Leaders & Advocates International Inc.
@aynlavideos this is the image of nursing in the phil. sacrificing worker. can we make it even more professional like an expert or should i say scientist in the field of nursing? this is also the reason why physicians look down to us RNs because most of the time our image portray a docile, unquestioning worker- an assistant.
Our lecturer showed us this video in class today encouraging us to be the best nurses we could be. I cried the whole way through. The thought that one day when i finish my training i too could touch someones life in such a dramatic way. this is the sort of nurse i want to and WILL be!
Awesome! I had no idea JNJ had a channel here! Here is a shoutout to all my fellow student nurses :D Hang in there....we'll make it through nursing school!
@NiteStarGirl Can you tell me what song this is playing in the back ground. We are graduating in December and I want to play this song at our ceremony.
I am a nurse for 14 years. I love it. I studied in Belgium and you don't become a nurse because of the pay. I work here in California. Nursing is very rewarding but can be very strenuous physically and psychologically. I still see more rewards in my job.
Thank you so much for this very heart warming tribute. I am also a nurse, i work as a nurse instructor in a university ..My students were so touched when I have showed this video to them. May I know who sang the background song and the title?
JNJ Thank you for this video...I posted them to my Facebook for all my fellow nursing students...being a nursing student is tough...we struggle everyday with our up and downs...but we all hang in there...we know why we are there...we choose this career. Thank you JNJ.
I am a 55 yr old nursing student, going on to get my RN. Even in this late stage of my life I know I can make a difference...in the past 4 yrs as a LPN I know I have touched many people. Before becoming a LPN, I was a firefighter and rescue. So I know how important the medical people are.
Physicians are trained to see a disease or injury in a person. Nurses are trained to see a person and how they understand and manage illness and wellness. We need both in order to be effective health care teams.
There are things in this life more important than having (lots of) money. A nurse will see that and be able to promote wellness despite money. A 'greedy' attitude will automatically put distance between you and your not-so-well-off clients.
You can do all this and more as an MD (doctor). There are compassionate doctors out there. You'll make more money and have a more rewarding career. Go to med school instead.
nurses and doctors do not do the same thing. doctors diagnose and prescribe medicine. they are all about the curing the patient. nurses care for and about the patients. patients arent just another case for most nurses.
and being a nurse isnt about money. being a nurse is about caring about their patients and helping them heal in anyway they can. thats more rewarding than any paycheck could ever be.
You need to re-evaluate your comments...Nurses and MDs are quite different professionals. MDs are not there 24 hours a day. Nurses are. Period. Nurses diagnose and treat patients' responses to their problems or perceived problrems. MDs diagnose and treat the actual problems...not the patient himself. MDs are wonderful professionals and work well with nurses for the most part, but NURSES are there even after the MD leaves the scene...still taking CARE of the patient. I'm very proud to be a nurse!
1: Hi! I am also a nurse from here in the Philippines. In our country, actually, we have to do sometimes volunteer works wherein we are not paid for our services. Sometimes, we even pay the hospitals just to allow them to have our services and if ever we finally are employed as nurses, we are usually underpaid as well
2: but if given another chance to choose a course, still, I would choose this course to become a nurse. When I saw this video, I really cried and it is really so fulfilling to hear that there are people who appreciate the little things that we do for them. It is really a fun, exciting, memorable, touching, notable, worth it etc.. experience to become a nurse.
3: Thanks for this upload, for calling us nurses as unsung heroes... just the simple fact of knowing that there are people who appreciates what we do is already enough to give us new strength in facing the challenges to help and save lives each day. Thanks a lot!
This video was amazing. I'm not sure if it is my age showing or if this video was just that moving but I actually got choked up towards the end. I am a student and am thankful I have made the choice to get my associate degree. I can't wait to be a nurse.
I'm doing a documentation on nurses for my senior project. I'm aspiring to be a nurse and it just touches my heart the difference that nurses make. Nurses and doctors are my heroes.
I love being a nurse. After I graduated Nursing school, I moved from Minnesota to Corpus Christi, Texas. I have never seen so many neglegant nurses in my life. There was a handful of good nurses, but the majority were in the profession for the wrong reasons. I moved back to MN, because I could not take it anymore. I have a moral dilema, because I would love to report some of those Nurses to the Board.
I'm a LPN and I thank you for this video, in general my experiences as a nurse had been more rewarding than not, I beleive I get more from people that I give to them, it is all about integrity and respect. It is nice to experience when your patients eye light up when they see you and trust you, and all the blessing that they give you. It's just great. Love being a nurse.
This is such a beautiful video. Seeing this tribute really makes feel like I made the right career choice. It truly makes all the long hours of studying more than worthwhile. Thank you!
Im a 1st year student nurse in England and i love what i do and the decision to go in nursing was one of the best decision of my life and i hope i can give what these nurses gave to their patient to mine and to make a diffrent to someones life. thats realy what its all about
I appreciate the fact that some people do see how important we nurses are and what a difference we can make in someone life. It's hard to remember that when you work in a place where patients are demanding and rude and treat us nurses like we are slaves and don't have feelings that get hurt.
Yeah, we get new nurses but someone didn't tell them they have to clean dirty bottoms, vomit, blood, they think they can pass it off on others I am a RN, and what I see coming out of schools is a shame!
HR1800 get the hell over yourself your obviously one of those matron types who think university trained nurses are useless
and i think everyone is well aware of the not so glamorous roles in nursing because sad people like you point it out on a continuous basis rather then focus on the good points
Watching this video reinforced a belief in me that the reason there is a nursing shortage is because people (patients) need a social worker, and not a bedside caregiver. I hear here in the video only about female nurses and their social skills like " she was so nice" and etc. What about male nurses and their roles as social workers?
I say this, lets open the bridge for Filipino nurses to enter because people here are crazy.
if you are worried about "the hard studies".... Focus, one step at a time...and Focus on learning...for being open and interested to nursing the barrier will be broken...
we need you...
Listen to your heart...."I really want to" That's all you need to know...
We need more uplifting and motivational comments like yours. I have a passion - but I am actually scared that I won't pass. I would love to be a nurse and help people go through bad experiences (as caring nurses watched over me when I was in neuro ICU).
@phoenixbyrd2 Sorry, didn't reply sooner. Sometimes I'm not notified of new comments. But best of luck. I'm sure everyone is scared, but you never know until you try!
Thank you for having the courage to do this everyday. So you second semester students keep up the good work, and don't quit. Sac City "Sutter Kids" are hand picked, just remember that; someone has faith in you, and so do I.
but i want to be a nurse now more than ever. any job is tough, but it's worth it if you can touch people's lives like this!!!! when i went into surgery in september 08, my nurse was so helpful. i just felt bad she couldn't be around as much because there aren't enough nurses on staff. i hope more people will turn to this as their career!!!!
I want to be a nurse too. My mom had an anurisum when I was seven and my sister was three. The doctors made me so afraid because they used big words and never explained anything. When I asked if my mom would die, the doctor said there was a possibility. But the nurse was so nice. She prayed with us and showed us how to be gentle with our mom. The nurses threw my sister a birthday party for her fourth bday. It was amazing. Nurses are the best.
Sometimes people forget the Nurses working in the SNF facilities. They too deserves all the praises. The emotional strength needed to bond with the patients and the strength to see them go. A stressful job at times but most rewarding for the soul. Thank you to all NURSES.
Thank you for everything you guys do. I've been in the hospital twice when I was a kid, for surgery and stitches. The nurses took the fear out of the unknown, made me laugh and smile when I was on the verge of tears, and I put my complete trust in them because they never gave a reason to break it, they were so honest, such genuine, good people.
I cried all the way through this video... I'm an RN in bothe ED and ICU and see the sickest patients. I've definately gone through phases of "WHY THE HECK AM I DOING THIS" but I've grown to LOVE what I do! Thanks you for this video!
What they forget to show you, is that you're assigned to double the patients you should have, your colleagues make you want to quit, and physicians walk all over you.
To anyone thinking about becoming a nurse: DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!
thank you sooo much for this video! nursing is truly a giving vocation, and you put so much of yourself into it. it is often a thankless job, and being reminded that people really do appreciate what we are doing for them brought tears to my eyes.
i love nursing, and i will always do, but getting the appreciation that we deserve makes me feel really good. haha...
AWESOME! After many, many years as a bedside nurse in Labor & Delivery, then back or a Masters in Psychiatric Nursing and working as a private practice Nurse Therapist, and now over 15 years as a Professor of Nursing for fabulous students studying to become RNs.....it's always about the patients. We love them. It's why we're all here!
I never thought nursing was such a giving profession. Someone I know is a nurse and she makes it seem like nursing is a very stressful and unhappy experience. Now that I'm at crossroads, trying to choose what career to get into, I know that this is something I'll be great at. I'm a very loving human being and I want to make a difference in the world. I wish that family member had shown me the beauty in this profession. Thank you so much!
Hey! your right! but it depends what kind of nice you are! there are ER, pediatric, labour & delivery... i was at the Medicinal n the non-registered had to take care 4 patients.... so it depends... i was a student...n i had fun! but it was a bit stressful! but in the end of the day its rewarding
Thank you for this video. I am in nursing school now and trying so hard not to stress and give up. This video just reminds me of the reasons I am going through all of this. I can't wait!!! :) I want to one of these nurses- that really makes a difference in a patients life.
Well said, Azotobacter88...the 3 videos in this series is just amazing...I cry every time I watch them and have shared them with my entire nursing class.
As a nursing student, seeing this video solidifies my passion for caring. Nursing is indeed a profession where science and medicine work harmoniously with compassion and care.
thanks. I can't wait to enter the world of nursing when I graduate next may 2010.
These are the people who really matter, the patients. So many times nurses feel discouraged by administrations because of unreal expectations for documentation, but when a patient lets you know that you are appreciated it makes all the difference.
As a current nursing student, these testimonies have made me motivated to help the entire world!!!

I appreciate the fact that some people do see how important we nurses are and what a difference we can make in someone life. It's hard to remember that when you work in a place where patients are demanding and rude and treat us nurses like we are slaves and don't have feelings that get hurt.
veddergirl187 2 years ago
Yeah, we get new nurses but someone didn't tell them they have to clean dirty bottoms, vomit, blood, they think they can pass it off on others I am a RN, and what I see coming out of schools is a shame!
HR1800 2 years ago
HR1800 get the hell over yourself your obviously one of those matron types who think university trained nurses are useless
and i think everyone is well aware of the not so glamorous roles in nursing because sad people like you point it out on a continuous basis rather then focus on the good points

Watching this video reinforced a belief in me that the reason there is a nursing shortage is because people (patients) need a social worker, and not a bedside caregiver. I hear here in the video only about female nurses and their social skills like " she was so nice" and etc. What about male nurses and their roles as social workers?
I say this, lets open the bridge for Filipino nurses to enter because people here are crazy.

i wanna be a nurse
but
i always think about how hard is the studies
and all that care plans
and everything about the nursing
i really want to but there is this barrier which i find it hard to break
abdulrashid88 2 years ago
....listen carefully to your heart...
if you are worried about "the hard studies"....

I would love to be a nurse and help people go through bad experiences (as caring nurses watched over me when I was in neuro ICU).

but i want to be a nurse now more than ever. any job is tough, but it's worth it if you can touch people's lives like this!!!! when i went into surgery in september 08, my nurse was so helpful. i just felt bad she couldn't be around as much because there aren't enough nurses on staff. i hope more people will turn to this as their career!!!!

ThatsMissSassyLady 2 years ago

To anyone thinking about becoming a nurse: DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!

thank you sooo much for this video! nursing is truly a giving vocation, and you put so much of yourself into it. it is often a thankless job, and being reminded that people really do appreciate what we are doing for them brought tears to my eyes.
i love nursing, and i will always do, but getting the appreciation that we deserve makes me feel really good. haha...
thanks again!

If you think this one is good, check out the "Katrina- Nature at its worst. Nursing at its best" by Johnson & Johnson, it brought tears.
As a male nurse, this field is so rewarding..... The untold stories is all kept at heart, it the motivation that keeps us going...

These are the people who really matter, the patients. So many times nurses feel discouraged by administrations because of unreal expectations for documentation, but when a patient lets you know that you are appreciated it makes all the difference.
