This is not the alternate version of GGITS, the chords are different, the structure is different, it has no resemblance to GGITS whatsoever. The alternate version of GGITS is more or less the same, minus the vocals which are replaced by sounds effects and will be included on the release of the alternate Dark Side of the Moon (early mix version).
Hi, they are not at all the chords of the "Great GIg in the sky song" but more likely a progression, something around a f#min or around a Gmin chord (depending on how you"re tuned...A kind of theme Richard played while the others went out for a glass of wine :-)
Chords for Great GIg in the sky are on the net but the main 2 chords sequence are Gmin 7 and C7...
@equinoxoz begins in b-minor, then modulates to g-minor (the vocal sequence is whole just two chords - g minor and C7), then modulates once again back to b-minor and eventually ends up in g-minor
some recordings sound detuned, but I've never heard one which dropped down for one semitone.
Thanks man, i have been waiting for this part for awhile. This was my fav part of the bootleg album i had when i was like 10, 29 years ago. It was the break in the album from side a to b.
roger didn't get kicked out of the band, he left. so he had an arrogant streak, if you were HALF as epic as he was you'd have one too. without waters pink floyd wouldnt have been shit compared to what they are.
Christians who believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree?
yeah that was unrests comment but aint that some shit
One of the most haunting and beautiful pieces of music ever. Music is one of the best things in life, and the Floyd is my favourite music. Thank you for everything. A truely gentleman, Gone too young, rest in peace Richard Wright.
RIP Rick. We'll miss you and your music. As a big fan on Pink Floyd and as a son who's lost his father to cancer 2 years ago, my heart goes out to the family and friends of Rick. I wish you all the strength to go on with your lives and live with the warm and happy memories of Rick.
I haven't listened to it for quite a while so forgive me. Its just that every dude who knows about Floyd would probably know what Dark Side is but the posers usually wore the Wall shirts... at least that was the case in my school.
I'm not a historian of Floyd either so forgive my opinion is ignorant. I own most of their albums, save a few like the Wall and Saucerful and Atom Heart Mother but I do have Dark Side, Meddle, Animals, and Piper.
Though Animals wasn't my favorite cause it reminded me too much of the Wall...
Ok you are not a historian of the group, and you have absolutely right on your subjective notion, but i think it is very good thing to know something historicaly(in this case it is very important for the band generaly,it is not some littleness like date of realising,or something)... Do not touch "Animals".:D
If you hate Waters than you do not know nothing about Pink Floyd...Rogers's ideas were basic for everything they made...Of course Gilmour gave a direction to all that,Gilmour is terrific, i love them both equaly, but it is much easier to work forward when you already have somebodies ideas...
Roger was full of himself by the time they did the Wall album. Admit it man, he tried to steal the whole show and they kicked him out cause of his arrogance.
His basslines are pretty good though I love basses that are actually audible lol.
*Not that I can't hear them, just they're kinda faint. Whatever, I love the rest of the band :D.
Rogers ideas were basic for almost every album, nothing without him...dark side of the moon(his ideas for that conceptual album(story),than Animals(his inspiration after read "animal farm" by Orwel),than wall(wrote every song and music together with others),than final cut(wrote every single song and every music)literally say to them what to tune out...i belive you understand his importance,of course nothing without importance of Gilmour and Rick,Mason.
But also David Gilmour made fantastic music that gives to Pink Floyd terrific fascination..His importance is huge as well...I like them equaly,Wright and Mason did great work....So,all together they are Pink Floyd it is not alright to make exeption.
So no one at all wrote their own music? That's hard to believe since one of their best pieces, "Echoes" was inspired by a chord that Rick came up with.
Of course they did the albums together, but Syd was more of an influence then he was. When Syd left, they continued on that same path that he set out on but made it far more instrumental.
No .I said that, music has been made by everybody of them!!!But I also said,i have to repeat, for ideas, lyrics, concept, burthen, substance of all that is worth-while of Roger Waters...Syd Berret has began with it,he is extremely distinctive with originality ,no doubt, but Waters also is fantastic writer..So do not call him just a "bassist",he is much more than that...
They're both right, David Gilmour made you enjoy they're music, more than think. Roger Made You think about it more than enjoy it. They're writing styles were completely different, but seemed to mesh together perfectly.
Gilmour's playing was good on the album, its just that he didn't maximize his potential on the album. Yeah, Waters wrote the wall and it sure as hell sounds like it to me. If only Gilmour really put more say it into it, idk.
Such a lovely progression. God, I swear this guy's a genius--he may not have been a knife-carrying musician, flipping his Hammonds over and doing dual-organ solos with one hand on either organ, he was certainly up there with the likes of Keith Emerson as far as creativity goes. Fucking brilliant.

Man, Wright was the key to that band's potential.
He and Gilmour really laid down the ground work for any album they had. Of course, Nick Mason's drumming is great too.
Although, I couldn't care less about Waters lol cause I utterly hate that bassist.
