I used to play this song 10 years ago in our Rush tribute band here in N. Calif. Trying to re-learn it, your video has been invaluable because the parts, playing and tone are so accurate! Thank You!
You could look into a PRS SE or equivalent. Loads of good guitars out there, but this PRS is just beautiful to play and I imagine a SE would be very acceptable, ask your local dealer for a test drive. there's a street in London, can never remember it's name but it's on the Tottenham Court Road tube station, just down the road... Every guitar under the sun... good luck !!!
Do you have any idea of how Alex achieves that amazing guitar sound in the chords of this song ? I`m talking about this part: ``I hear their passionate music...``, especially the E major chord
( ``But dreams don`t need to have motion...`` E major ``To keep their spark alive...``. I`m not sure if there`s a mixture between electric & acoustic guitars. If you know, please tell me cause I`ve been wondering about it for a long time.
I don't know for sure, but I imagine he's using piezo pickups which give an acoustic sound with a lot of reverb and appropriate delay.. it almost sounds like musical glass smashing every time he hits the chord

Rush /Hold Your Fire /Mission is my answer, and no I didnt read any comment prior to my answer, this being quiz format and all... anyhow admire your work with RUSH covers, keep it up!!
Hi Shozee!! Many thanks for your comments and taking the time to watch and of course, all dedicated Rush fans would have no problem knowing this song.
Awesome of course. That skill should really be kept under lock and key my friend as it is a prime mover and a high water mark for talent. The effort seems second nature yet the fretboard shots show all the open secrets. Can;t wait till you turn the page on your next effort.
I'll bo over in UK in a few weeks- Slough, London and Reading..perhaps up to York also- Do you ever play the locals?
Thanks again !!!
P.S. - If you could make time stand still it would have to be during that smile at 3:17
Seems everyone wants Afterimage :-) well, I have most of it and this weekend I may just record it, whether or not I succeed in uploading it is another matter, I fear the days of my Rush covers may well be numbered. I didn't have this ridiculous title for the video for nothing. Mission is such a fantastic track, full of different emotions, a privilege to hear and play. Thanks for your comment Chili :-)
Fantastic as usual. I wish master Lifeson would play with such a clear tone lately. It seems that in the last two DVD releases his sound on these older songs has become too grinding and harsh.
ahhh there lies the Alex fan conflict, he used different pick-ups during that era to cut through the synth and get the clarity. A return to more guitar based songs reduced the need. Happy New Year my friend. Your comments are always greatly appreciated.
you always have great tone, it would be awesome to hear some less common songs from the era. Afterimage perhaps? Id like to put a few songs up, maybe ill do my cover if you try it first? (hows that for barganing lol?)
thanks sfxn!!! OK it's a deal!!! Afterimage has been on my mind for a long time, I have a queue of songs I have thought about playing so please be patient, it may be a little while before I get around to it.
mike, you are an inspiration to all rush fans and guitar fans as well - everytime i watch one of your videos, i am inspired to play rush and to go out and buy a prs as well!!!
I have wanted a PRS for years, but I shudder to think about how much a lefty PRS Custom would cost. I might have to take out a loan on my car just to pay for half of it.
Once again an amazing job. The sound was right on the numbers and you had it down note-for-note. I aspire to get my own videos to your level of quality, nevermind the playing.
Hi akim, using Line 6 POD XT live, with a modelled amp and cab (output direct to camera mic input). Three different tones in all, one for the main body, one for the solos and one for the clean bridge parts. As with most Rush of that era, the main effect is Chorus with some Flange and various amounts of reverb and delay. The modelled amp is a 1965 Plexi 45 with 4x12 1978 Brit Celest T-75s
nice! i tried to upload one yesterday without incuding the track or band name anywhere and it was copyrite rejected so i tried again including the names; no problem!
The only problem with guessing is that the bots can also pick up the text in the comments (that is how the related videos pop up)- but if there is no human looking at the related, then I guess it's ok. BTW- this sounds GREAT!
Wow. Are you sure you're not Alex in disguise? That was amazing!

Woah.. your covers leave me speechless. Very few can even get the tone of Lifeson down, much less the playing. You get both to perfection. Excellent.

The sound you get is so acurate. Brilliant playing. Im not usually impressed by people trying to cover Rush songs but your videos are the exception.

I am looking for a guitar similar to what you have but in a little lower price range. Any suggestions? Awesome vid btw.
