The Award reflects Paul Watson's astonishing contributions spanning over 3-decades overcoming adversity and fighting for the improvement of the lives of animals, people & the Earth.
Paul Watson paid himself $120k in 2010, four times as much as what his fellow high school graduate gets. That is why he wants your help, free of charge, to do illegal jobs for him.

The U.N. designated those Antarctic waters as a "Whale Sanctuary". Which means the whales are sacred in that area, because are in an extinction event. Japan is in the U.N. but chooses to ignore some particular laws the U.N. set. Out of their own conscience, they created rules and guidelines to circumvent the U.N.'s laws. The Japanese law states a certain number of whales to be killed for research each year. However Sea Shepherd says their laws are not legal, and therefore fight the whalers.
Someone has to do something until the governments wake up and take action to avoid the potential crash of our ecosystem. Until then, the Sea Shepherds are the only ones brave enough to be out there raising awareness. Watson has no authority for his actions which is why they are crimes and the S.S. has had registrations yanked from ships in numerous countries and members of the S.S. I love watching Whale Wars. It's a great show. I don't agree with Japans current whaling ideologies, but I'm not Japanese. I also don't agree with the Sea Shepherds tactics. Most of the time, they fail at what they do. The show is definitely interesting to watch though and it's a lot of fun to watch the drama unfold. It's interesting and nothing more. If a whaler dies or a Sea Shepherd dies because of Paul Watson, it will be further interesting and I'll be watching.

you have to look at how the Japanese hunt the whales. They harpoon, electrocute, shoot and drown them. They also hunt the calves(I don't know any oceanic animal that you can legally hunt for food that are pregnant females or babies) so that others from the pod will come to it's aid and get harpooned.

also everything but the age of the whale can be gained with a biopsy dart so there is no reason to kill them,

Those whales are mammals with exceptional intelligence and they have better values than most Americans. Would you kill your dog at home just because there aren't endangered? Watson has no authority for his actions which is why they are crimes and the S.S. has had registrations yanked from ships in numerous countries and members of the S.S. Japanese sailors damaged their own ship YushinMaru#2 in an Antarctic ice field Tuesday. A SeaShepherd ship sailed it with no problem.
The Whalers, who face arrest in Australia, had to sail 3,000 miles to Indonesia for repairs. The whalers lied on entry saying it was NOT a harpoon whaler, hiding it under a tarp. I love watching Whale Wars. It's a great show. I don't agree with Japans current whaling ideologies, but I'm not Japanese. I also don't agree with the Sea Shepherds tactics. Most of the time, they fail at what they do. The show is definitely interesting to watch though and it's a lot of fun to watch the drama unfold. It's interesting and nothing more. If a whaler dies or a Sea Shepherd dies because of Paul Watson, it will be further interesting and I'll be watching.

you have to look at how the Japanese hunt the whales. They harpoon, electrocute, shoot and drown them. They also hunt the calves(I don't know any oceanic animal that you can legally hunt for food that are pregnant females or babies) so that others from the pod will come to it's aid and get harpooned.
We all know Japan is bribing IWC members. Who the fuck sells 'scientific' researched dead animals for human consumption? Eww.. The only 'research' is how many calories are in a serving size.

Canada isn't a whaling country per se- At least not commercially like Japan, Norway and Iceland. As far as I know, it's only a few Inuit villages that hunt a whale every winter or so to support their village. And it does air in Canada on Animal planet.
