One of the most electrifying films ever made, Melvin Douglas deserved his Oscar, so did the rest of the cast. Flawless. Beardyman9, so sorry to hear of your loss. I have always believed that survivors shouldn't speak at funerals, that it's best left to professionals. I hear what you said, it's a great quote, and so true.
god, this film is so hard to find! i think it's available on spanish dvd but not in english. such a pity as it's meant to be a breakthrough film for gene hackman.
A truly wonderful film. Seen many years ago but recently revisited after my Dad died a few weeks ago. I have "Strangers" on tape but it would be nice if more were posted on this very touching film. I was too upset to speak at the funeral but I wanted to stand up and say: "Death ends a life, but it does not end a relationship. Which struggles on in the survivors mind to some resolution it may never find."
This is an amazing and powerful drama. The song "Strangers" sung by Roy Clark was beautiful and haunting; can't find that one because of a dispute between songwriters.
There was another classic scene from that movie where Hackman's character tells his father to shut up.
