They don't like magic tricks because they're usually terrible. I knew one of the greatest close-up magicians of the 20th Century--Jerry Andrus, but he wouldn't have made it on this stage. He did extraordinary card tricks and sleight-of-hand deceptions. This sort of stuff is rather fake--it depends entirely upon the flexibility of the assistant and nothing on the skill of the magician.
