  • This Korean was trying to undermine the black owned beauty supply, if this woman's husband did the crime of trying to burn down the Korean's store, that was stupid on his part...These Koreans could have gone to another shopping center to open, but once again they are using black folks for their meal ticket...If we have any sense left, we would boycott all businesses not black owned...

  • A Jewish employer was discussing the economy of Black America. He said when Jews came to America; there was no group lower than Jews, except blacks. Black America suffers because Blacks are niggardly their money. Blacks will do business with anyone but blacks. Jews would do business with Jews. He said, “If there was an Irishman selling goods for ¼ of the price, they would walk 2 miles to do business with a Jew thereby keep money circulating among Jews. We should do the same.

  • Most immigrants who immigrate to America aren't fluent in English but yet they succeed and so do their children's generation.

  • No need for black celebrities to get involved in helping the "disenfranchised black communities". There are plenty of Americans with immigrant backgrounds whose parents immigrated to America with less than $300 and survived. they worked relentlessly and put education first in terms of priorities for their children and their children and communities are successful today. Why can't the disenfranchised black community do the same? Black Americans atleast have an advantage in the form of ENGLISH.

  • let's all start supporting only the businesses and artists that are of our own ethnic background!!!!! LET'S ONLY BUY FROM PEOPLE WHO LOOK LIKE US.

    lol

  • i shop at who ever gives me the best business that means helping me and talking to me kindly

  • Why are you all blaming the Koreans? They're doing exactly what the whites are doing to us as well. It's called CAPITALISM!!!

  • and as i read some of the comments posted by others, im sure the producer of this film intentions were not to put blacks against koreans. what the koreans are doing is pretty much what white people have been doing to others for centuries. theres no point of hating on these koreans, yea dont shop at their hair supply shops cause your supporting a system designed to take advantage of but not support you.

  • another thing we as black people need to do is keep an eye on

anyone trying to exploit or use black people...

keep our business and success on lockdown....

    because everyone isn't your friend.

  • I think its very rude to continue disrespect black people in theyre own neighborhoods,by seeing this documentary those koreans appear to paint a picture of greedy nasty people who selfish close down what our own black people are trying to accomplish....

if things can't be equal then leave out of our neighborhoods.

I hate to see this.....as racism but it clearly is....

asians just do it politetly in your face and behind your back....

but the only thing is it isn't so obivous....

  • remove the nail shops, remove the drug stories too!!!

remove all non-block business from our neighborhoods!

im tired of feeling watched while I love over the counter to get something I need!

  • THIS IS A CRYING DAYMN SHAME !!! it wouldn't be so bad if Koreans hired blacks to work in their stores but they will hire an ILLEGal Mexican to work who don't buy the persms, weave, wigs or nail polish before they Hire a Black. Koreans do not go to black churches, support activities in black communities, etc. Asians do not work with no other group but there OwN first before with any other groups, especially Blacks. Its time to REMOVE them from our Neighborhoods !!!!

  • since bobsa there are 200 more black owned beauty supply stores, also devin robinson book contributed to the growth of black owned stores

  • Excellent!!!

  • After watching the film, This is my perspective..and i assume it will not change.

In the beginning I found it quite discerning the Koreans were actively pushing Blacks out of the hair care prodcuction industry and I believe that this is true. It is right that there should be a balance, instead of a monoply.

With that said, the same way I feel Koreans should not actively push one group out the market, I don't blacks aka (BOBSA) should be actively trying to push Koreans out...

  • Continued Part 2:

There should be an equal balance which should allow Blacks aswell as other groups to have the equal opportunity to sell.

Our history, as said in this film, helped to create this monoply with our constant lack of awareness of what is valuable. Once someone made a profit, we began to recognize its value. This is nothing wrong.

However, Demonizing all Koreans, who have worked hard to get there business up and running is wrong.

  • Continued Part 3:

Watching this film made me begin to view Koreans badly; making them seem to ALL be racist and out to stop the black community by emphasizing the quote of ONE Korean racist.

This film increasing rage instead of awareness..i know the film did not have this intent.

The awareness is falsely given through demonizing this group..and its not fair.

DO not call the Kettle Black if your pot is black.

U R trying to form the same blockade that u are mad u have recieved.

  • Continued Part 4:

Instead of making everything to be about "Black only" the same way Koreans made it to be " Korean Only"; one should promote equal playing fields

I know nothing can be perfectly equal, but it should be mostly equal.

Korean people should continue having the right to distribute black hair products, but Black people should have the same right and opportunity to sell and create as well.

    Peace love and happiness...

    Jade

  • @bow2jade

If the Koreans are undermining black distributors, they clearly just want our money but not us. So let us forget about considerations to them, the dis-respecting will end.

  • The Koreans ACTIVELY keep Blacks out and FORCE Blacks out of the market. Didn't you see the part of the doc where the Korean said, "we don't sell to niggers?" You have to watch the whole thing.

  • @lavondastaples

actually there was never a Korean saying "we don't sell to niggers"

just get your facts straight, so you don't loose the argument.

  • Having watched all 5 videos, it seems as though the real story is that black-owned beauty businesses got sidelined largely because they didn't keep a close enough watch on the changing economic environment. They focused almost exclusively on the consumer end and made the fatal assumption that the playing field would remain a tussle between black and white business owners, and thus failed to notice that distribution channels were slowly being consolidated by Koreans. The results are truly sad.

  • i agree completly.

they should raise awareness more hair days and try get celebs involved or sumtin even more then people will listen up and reliese esp. to the young people

  • What you said hurt like shit but its the truth .......and it will be the same until there is a change in the mind set

  • What a joke. I am not saying that her husband didn't do it. But come on now. They are business people. Why would he go and burn someone else's supply. Keywords "never been arrested, never been a police car" There is malicious behavior going on and these tactics have been going on for years to make blacks look like criminals. That is an insult on black character. There are plenty of blacks that no how to run a business and be prosperous and there are some that just can't stand it.

  • the pentagon in 2003 wrote a docuement

    call,"information operations roadmap".

WHAT that means is telecommunications will be uesd for eletronic warfare againist every and any body.YOUR cell-phone is a weapon.

    Propaganda is used to mis-edu.

and cover-up facts from the public.

  • Well I went to compare the price of all the hair care products that I normally by with the korean shops and Walmart and Walgreens and the price isn't that great when compairing with walgreens being the greater price between the three so I start to shop at walmart for all my hair care needs because here where I live there are no Black Owned hair care stores.

  • Thats great. Instead of going to a local, minority owned business you're going to Walmart. Send your money to White corporate America and to China instead.

Just as long as it's not going to those evil Koreans.

  • if you can't read btwn the thick line he ask abt rap stars and black celebrities bc believe it or not ppl look up to them and if more of them would come out and say "support black business" ppl would listen. yes it's sad that it takes that, but it's reality that celebrities are the only rolemodels for some people.

  • I really don't care about beauty supply stores (I don't shop in them) or weave (I don't wear them) but I can understand the struggle to start and keep more black businesses open. There aren't many out there and we should support the right ones when possible.

  • my only problem is the koreans cutting the black business people out. i don't care about them taking over, but still include black people which whom are your main supporters.

  • @devilsaysyes --- i agree

  • @devilsaysyes: Some Indians just open Chinese restaurants next to Chinese-owned ones, but what the Chinese react to those "South Asian" people..the answer is NONE. NOT because Chinese are chicken people but they are smart and they know how to respect the game, the business game. You are living in the capital empire of the world so you should accept that, not for your community but your country..or turn America to a Nazi one like Germany which country server for themselves and end up themselves!!

  • @Doraemonchina its all apart of the game and thats why im not mad at the koreans for making their moves. koreans saw an opportunity and they took advantage, and im sure anyone else would do the same. one thing black people need to take note of from this documentary is the unity of the koreans, they built a winning system and now they're living good off black money. We as black people need to do the same, work together and build each other up.

  • @devilsaysyes: We Chinese are always open mind to operate with any ethic communities in the U.S. even Black. We can supply you the product with low cost but accepted quality or even higher than the Korean. We can corporate in many areas not only in the beauty supply like this. We Chinese respect your people and understand rule of the game. We just want to make little money for living so don't put racist attitude toward our Chinese, we want operate with you so we can both profits in the business!

  • after watching the whole series I will never shop at another Hair Supplt store that is not

black owned and operated I will find a Black owned hair store.

  • chines people are very mean they just want their money that s it

  • KOREAN! NOT CHINESE!

  • In my town there is one black owned buisness, the main product they sell is products for hair extentions etc, and hardly any hair products. A Korean store opened 3 shops down the street. They have a whole store of products. My choice is to drive almost an hour or more to a black owned store that has as big of a slection and the korean owned store., or order online, where you really don't know what race you are buying from the most of the time. So what do you do?

  • This video has really woke me up. I knew that the only black hair stores I see around my area and surrounding areas are korean owned. But I had no idea how bad it really was. I have said I will never go into another store that are run by these people.

  • We need more Blacks getting into this business or we will lose it for good!

  • Greeting Regarding the issue of BOBSA and Beauty Supply Distributors world-wide. One thing we may have overlooked that is the "language". Often times many Foreigners come into American not knowing the English language. They study the language very quickly so that they would be at an advantage. I believe that if a few of the BOBSA MEMBERS would take the time and learn Chinese and/or other languages alike they would find themselves at a bigger advantage and more powerful in the industry.

  • In part one of this video YOU may have over looked the lady who said her brother in law had been in the US for ONE MONTH and was starting his own hair store next month. When the man who made this video asked him a question all he did was mumble something and brush his hair around. She had to speak for him not because he didn't want to but obviously he didn't know much English, so I get your point but in this situation it's null.

  • KOREAN!!! NOT CHINESE.

  • Okay this makes me sick. Every minute that I watch my stomach turns more and more! How do these people sleep at night? Do they feel good knowing that they put thousands of good honest people who need jobs out of work? I hope the BOBSA takes them down! Again these people make me sick I barely made it though this documentary. I plan on buying the dvd from the website soon!

  • that's the problem when a black celebrity says something thats when the black community does something. they're taking our money as well with name brand clothes. do they give back to the majority of our community, no. so we need to get our own feet off the ground.

  • who ever tried to set the other store on fire was not the solution. violence doesn't solve anything. it would be sad if they were balck. that's why other people don't respect us. all they had to do was boycott the store, a solution.

  • Why does this guy seem to think it's necessary to turn to rappers or black celebrities to empower a race to develop entrepreneurial skills? Oprah and Jay-Z aren't going to just give you the money to start a store. It takes hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to develop a successful business. Simply put, the consumers will patronize the stores that offer them the best selection of products for the best price.

  • Why is everytime you visit a video in Youtube, you see people fighting about race issues. Half of time you search out videos to start a fight.Everyone just STFU sometime, instead of flaming back and forth, ruining the video for other people.

  • Black women be proud of yourselves and wear your hair natural. You will be more respected.

  • not really...

  • if you dont own a business that employs people. no selling mary kay or avon, but a business paying people 40k plus benefits. then dont tell them how to wear their hair.

  • Oh yes!

  • If white people banded together to "keep the white dollar in the white community," Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be crying racism in the blink of an eye. Yet when blacks do the same thing, it's viewed as empowerment and advancement. What a ridiculous double standard exists in this country.

  • THANK YOU!!! Racism is SO prevalent in the black community!!! Black people think its ok to

  • The white dollar is already kept in the white community. The money in the black community only goes 2 another black once, then it goes to another. For asians, its 32x. That is a horrible example u gave because u fail 2 see things holistically.

  • Whites ALREADY keep their dollars in their community.

  • Sorry to say, my people ain't going to learn till they turn off that MTV Bullshit (Cribs, Iced-up Rappers and Ballers) and learn some grass root economics!

  • blacks=racists.

  • yeah because you know Black people are well known for almost killing off and enslaving entire races...

why the HELL did you even click onto this video???

  • You are a racist yourself if you think that way.

  • free enterprise , capitalism, isnt that the yank way, so whats the issue. people will shop will they want. deal with it

  • I am blk and have owned a beauty supply store for 2 yrs and i totally agree with the documentary. I live in a small town, mostly white but quite a few blks. I have been doing very well as the only beauty supply store here. I guess word got to the Koreans and here the came...and opened up one right up the street from me.

  • When will stop being slaves we are free we need to act like it...

  • wow what moronic statements, PPL ARE COMPLAINING about coorperations putting mom and pop spots outta business. Plus this document only lightly addresses the distribution and MANUFACTURING practices that make this a one handed fight. its so silly oosnij and ppl who make rants like his can be smart enough to argue but to dumb to see the trees for the forest.

  • What I meant was, complaining about WALMART is useless. These are the rules of business. My family has owned 8 small businesses and am talking from experience. I want to open a WALMART but distributors won't sell to me because I'm Korean? Does this arguement make sense. Face it, The Koreans own the low end of the bbsupply business. If black folks want in they have to start with higher end and better quality product.

  • its such a shame i cannot believe that brandy knowing the cause deliberately went to the showcase and promoted korean products! just goes to show that popstars have no conscience. its all about the $

  • Nothing against the Koreans for taking care of their business and beating us out of our own game, but are they really that much smarter than we are? Are they more capable of running this business than we are? Are they that much better at marketing to our people than we? Oh, it's about the money isn't it? It always is. Do they have more money than we? Or, is it that they use their money collectively to help their group a lot more than we do?

  • Quoted from :Blackonomics

    The black hair care tragicomedy

    By James Clingman

All you need to do to win the bbs war is to work harder than the koreans do. Then again, if you're willing to work that hard, I'm sure you could come up with a better strategy than praying on the vanity of black women.

  • cont.

I doubt black people are ALWAYS thinking EVERYONE is conspiring against them. To repeat what was all ready stated the Koreans have the distribution monopolized. So, if they won't sell the products to African Americans then how do you expect them to open shops to be able to work as hard as korean people? Listen and pay attention to the whole story before you comment.

  • windowofopp wrote,

"There are many balck people out there who work just as hard if not harder then the owners of these store. Maybe you missed the part where it was said that it was hard for black owned supply stores beacuse alomst ever aspect of the business domninated by Koreans. I took what you said as an insult to black people. Maybe if koreans weren't hell bent on eating the whole pie by themselves, they decided to share there wouldn't be a need for a film such as this."

  • Do you have any idea how hard korean people work? I think you could find more black people willing to go to jail vs working as hard as most Koreans do. I love how black people always think everyone is conspiring against them. Learn how business works before trying to talk shit about it. If you think this is a suprise, look into Urban Clothing Stores. By the way South Pole is a Korean company.

  • You sound ignorant making generalizations like that. I don't know where you live but where I live I'm surrounded by African Americans who work hard everyday. I love how people make comments on things they can't possibly relate to. You're not black so how would know what's going on when you're on the outside looking in?

  • The conspiracy is documented. Where you paying attention? The korean store owners are trying putting the black manfacturers out of business by purchasing low quality knock offs from korean manufacturers. And, the in many cases the Korean manufacturers are refusing to sell to black store owners. This is fair business practice to you?

  • Do you know how business works? Undercutting is always going to exist in business. It's the law of supply and demand. What is stopping black store owners from doing the same thing? It's like complaining that WALMART is putting "mom & pop" out of business. Do you really think korean suppliers won't sell to black business if they could move volume or puchase large quantities?

  • There are many balck people out there who work just as hard if not harder then the owners of these store. Maybe you missed the part where it was said that it was hard for black owned supply stores beacuse alomst ever aspect of the business domninated by Koreans. I took what you said as an insult to black people. Maybe if koreans weren't hell bent on eating the whole pie by themselves, they decided to share there wouldn't be a need for a film such as this.

  • This documentary is pretty one sided, and the part about the government, that was just stupid. Did you notice that when you went into the Korean owned stores it's always the same people at the counter. Thats because most of the time the owners work from open to close 6 days a week(usually). This ain't no job, it's a lifestyle. If most black people were willing to work this hard, "they" would dominate this market. Interesting subject matter, but a hack job by the producer.
