One Merry Christmas: The Day The (Logan Valley) Mall Caught Fire

I was on an ambulance run to Altoona Mercy when the call came in. I waas a student at Saint Francis in Loretto at the time. On the way back to Loretto we stopped and watched the fire for a while. We weren't back in quarters more than an hour or so when we were called to the scene. Spent a good hunk of the day doing over haul and putting out hot spots.

An early morning fire on December 16, 1994 destroyed approximately 20 percent of the

Logan Valley Mall, a regional shopping complex. An effective attack by 59 fire companies

successfully controlled the fire although an additional 40 percent of the complex suffered severe

smoke and water damage. The fire, which was reported at 2:29 a.m., completely destroyed 15

stores and 9 sales kiosks. The direct loss is estimated at $50 million, with total economic impact of

more than $75 million.

fire crews from as far as Cumberland Maryland came to this fire I have the stats on the fire somewhere I will have to look them up and post the link I am a member of Lakemont Vol. Fire Department whos company was in charge of this fire

I don't know why they moved the theater.

I remember this --- that was a MONSTER fire. Fire crews were called from State College (where I was living at the time) for that one.
