  • "Never again dominate"? What about Led Zeppelin? Whoever put this script together knows nothing about music.

  • @zzebowa i know! i was waiting for them to show up but... guess not

  • the summer of love was allot of smoke and mirrors, it is always being said that it was this great time filled with music and love, but it was just mostly teens on acid, WOODSTOCK on the other hand was more of a love filled, musical experience

  • oh ok they were saving my generation for the end (this comment is in regards to my comment on part 9)

  • The Who were awesome, what a way to finnish a gig. Could you imagine all those sickly soft shit boy bands that are churned out today doing that?

  • THE WHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks UK for all that wonderful music

  • @vejdirektoratet moan moan moan, just be grateful somone has taken the time and effort to post this excellent documentory!

  • Of course ots complete cock to say the British Invasions stopped in 67, it continued with Led Zep, who took the US by storm, and PinkFloyd, and Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden...

  • Some of those are still wandering the streets of San Francisco.

  • thanks a lot. it is great to watch so many talented people together....and they still playing now....

  • FUCK CHARLIE MANSON, I HIT HIM WIT A BRICK AND IM DANCING

  • Great documentary, thank you so much for posting it

  • Thanks for W@tching!

    :-)

  • Awesome...thanks for posting the series......

  • Thank you ... long live Rock!

  • THANK YOU I enjoyed watching all the parts - one better than other! LONG LIVE THE ROCK

(I consider great it ended with The Who)

  • I agree about the Who ... best way to end the movie... Rock on !!!

  • THANK YOU I enjoyed watching all the parts - one better than other! LONG LIVE THE ROCK

  • Many thanks, yes it's a very cool documentary ... I hope all the segments stay intact this time.

  • Too bad drugs had to ruin everything. Drugs and the idea of accepting anyone, even someone like Manson. Lots of scam artists were able to infiltrate the scene. What a shame.

  • Imagine if Charles Manson had formed a rock group ... ?!?!?!!?!?!?

  • @Cissy2cute Drug preoccupation would be more San Francisco, down south in Los Angeles the scene there was lively rock'n'roll (which SF looked down upon) but was crushed by the conservatives along with robot law enforcement.

  • I'm sure it has been asked before. How British rock differs from American rock? Anyone to enlighten a bit?

  • Not enough Pink Floyd

  • OMG! the first Punk at 0:56 O.O

  • Take a look at photos of the Beatles from their early Hamburg era (1960). They look like leathered out punks.

  • they are actully Greasers that where out in the 50's.

  • Hippyies - a load of middle class kids with nothing better to do.

  • Watched the whole episode, but pt 6 & 7 are missing,or it simply doesn't exist, very good enjoy them, will search your channel for furher more clips !! Thanks..

  • Parts 6 & 7 do exist and were up for a while. However, due to copyright issues, YouTube took the episodes down. Pity, since parts 6 & 7 had some awesome footage.

    Thanks for watching!

    :-)

  • Pity!!

  • does he say "innoncence" when the who was playing ????

  • @Fcblover

he said never again with the innocence and vitality of the original British Invasion. He wasn't referring that the WHO where "innocent."

  • What is the first song playing in this video?

  • Section 43 by Country Joe and the Fish.

  • I hate it when youtube does that. Thank you for the quick response.

  • what happened to prts 6 and 7 of the History of British Rock?

  • Unfortunately the were removed by YouTube for copyright reasons. Bummer!

  • also roger taylor took part of the summer of love, but the police didn't allow him to play

  • What, no Zombies? *sigh* yet again, overlooked, nearly forgotten and criminally underrated.

And they never talked about the Dave Clark Five either, one of the best British Invasion bands.

  • or zeppelin.

  • zeppelin was formed in 1968

  • ok...............?

  • the who wasn't innocent !

  • haha oh

  • the guy at teh start looked like robert plant

  • i know yer i thought it was lol

  • lol i think thats a chick

  • no mention of hendrix

  • Would have been interesting if they had mentioned him, after all his band mates, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell WERE British.

  • and hendrix was big... Mitch Mitchell was great drummer! But he didn't revolutionized drumming, but he was perfect for Hendrix...

  • It's pretty amazing to watch it go from Bill Haley to Pete and Keith!

why wasn't i alive in the sixties????

but anyways, thanks for posting this doc!

  • Wow, from Bill Haley to the Who ... what a concept!

    Thank you for watching!

  • Thanx tunenito

  • Thank you for watching ...

    :-)

  • God i love The Who's craziness. I wish i could do that to every instrument i play but i dont have the money -_-. Whenever I play Rock Band though, I always have the urge to do stuff like that to the instruments lol

  • I know just what you mean .... Must be a huge rush to smash up a Fender Stratocaster or better yet, a Gibson Les Paul! LOL!!

  • Yes you're right. And if we add some more ingredients...when it comes to punk early sound and speed, it would be The MC5. Stage diving would be Iggy Pop. 3 chords style i could say it's Buddy Holly. Add some raunchy riffs, it would be THE KINKS. Rebel attitude, Rolling Stones and add some ferocius flavoring from DR. FEELGOOD. Put them altogether ingredients...BUDDY HOLLY + THE KINKS + THE MC5 + THE WHO + IGGY POP + ROLLING STONES + DR. FEELGOOD = PUNK ROCK.

  • Pretty cool breakdown ... Long live Rock!

  • whoe! the who's performance...they got that attitude w/c kinda punk. i think they invented the guitar smashing atitude. superb early punk.

  • You are so right! The early WHO did have that pre-Punk / early Punk attitude which was just awesome.

  • where are 6 and 7 cant find em

    thanks for posting,

  • Hi, they were up for a while, but unfortunately YouTube took them off due to copyright infrigement.

    Sorry 'bout that ....

  • And it ALL began with..."Rock Around The Clock'...!

  • Amazing!

    :-)

  • I think you mean to say: It all started with "Rocket 88".

  • Actually it was "Crazy Man, Crazy". BOTH versions of "Rocket 88"-Ike Turner/Jackie Brenston's and Bill Haley's were NOT "rock & roll"! Although they were two similar (and respectively great) records, the Brenston recording was "R&B" and Haley's was closer to small combo "western swing" (they called it "Cowboy Jive"!) Consider that AFTER recording "Rocket 88," Turner/Brenston never moved any closer to rock & roll, whereas Haley kept evolving-2 years later he hit with "Crazy Man, Crazy"!

  • Safe man cheers! i'm gonna sit back and enjoy with guitar on chest, a beer and a reefer! Ahhh bliss.

  • Brilliant documentary. To bad security is so tight today that we cant have those "people rushes" like there were.

Its also interesting how the music untied everybody back then, nowadays there are 43509435 different sorts of music for twice that amount of people. No big hit shows that everybody can enjoy.

  • You are so right!

    :-)

  • FANTASTIC DOCCUMENTRY!!

    Love the footage

    Love the Music

    thx so much

  • Yes, it was very well done, thanks for watching! :-)

  • meh english 70s music had a bigger music on america

  • Simply cannot stomach no mention of Pet Clark, Dusty, or any women of the Brit Invasion...what gives?

  • You're absolutely right about that, since Cilla, Dusty, Petula, Lulu, Sandie Shaw and other women were a big part of the Invasion. Another noteworthy female was Honey Lantree, the drummer for the Honeycombs ("Have I the Right?")

Maybe someone will come up with a documentary of the FEMALE BRITISH INVASION ...

    :-)

  • I enjoyed this documentary. thanks!

  • ZOMBIES!!!?!?!?!

    my favorites

  • Great doc. Music will never be that good again. It's too bad it was tainted at the end with those damn dirty hippies!!! lol jk.

  • I don't understand why the documentary says that British domination enden in '67. The Rolling Stones, The Who and the surviving Beatles...along with Sting, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and other british acts are among the biggest selling contemporary acts and they are not only respected, but they sell out tickets for concerts and still influence young musicians.

  • Oh, great artists like these still enjoyed continued success, but the emphasis changed and became more diverse after this period, and was reflected in chart rankings. Everyone now wanted that roots-rock sound, and The Band and Delaney and Bonnie set the new standard.

  • The band was a very good group and Delaney etc weren't bad but "set the new standard"? Post-67 the Beatles still had the White Lbum, Magincal Mystery Tour, Abbey road & Let It Be, The Stones enterted their golden age with Beggar's Banquet, Let it Bleed & Sticky Fingers, The Who had Tommy & Who's Next, there was the prog explosion (Pink Floyd, Yes, genesis, ELP, Jethro Tull), and the Doors still had a few albums in them. Delanie and Bonnie?????

  • They had an amazing behind-the-scenes influence on many leading musicians (Clapton, Beatles, Stones, Cocker, Leon Russell, Duane Allman, etc.) of the era and were instrumental in ushering in the roots-rock period that lasted a good five years. They didn't sell lots of albums but they were musicians' musicians and were highly admired and emulated by many. Sadly, in recent news, Delaney Bramlett died in Los Angeles Dec. 27th from complications following gall bladder surgery.

  • I'm American and our music has lost what the UK gave us... Great Music! Thanks for the documentary I really enjoyed it. Pink Floyd for ever........

  • Great documentary...but the focus is much more on Pop music that, frankly, appealed to young girls. Otherwise the documentary would have carried on from the London / Blues groups to focus on bands such as The Pretty Things. Raw but never would have made it to the Ed Sullivan Show. And not to mention Long John Baldry in an overview of British Rock is a crime...

  • I agree with much of what you say. Hopefully a more in-depth documentary will be made that will cover more UK artists of that era, like the Small Faces and Ian Whitcomb.

  • well, i think the focus was to show the genesis of the british rock scene, which did start out with pop music...these guys started out making music that appealed to girls, and then graduated to music that appealed to guys...but its pretty cool that the stones were doing blues and the girls dug it

  • Ed Sullivan and all those bands you call "pop" are as important as London's club scene.

  • Thanks T Loved every moment

  • Super ... many thanks!

  • Thanks for the clips.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • It's all too much, shame it ended in a Monster Mash (but that's another story)

    TANX TUNE !

  • Thanks for all the cool comments!

    :-)

  • The pleasure is all mine, Thank you!

  • i love the who

  • When was this made?

  • Not sure of the exact date, but it might be 1985.

  • Ya I see mi Bad.

  • thanks for posting this. i really enjoyed it. its been put together very well.

  • Many thanks. British Rock totally rocks!

  • Loved it but no "wild thing" by the Troggs.Rock on everyone.

  • Love each and every single clip of this great sixties film!!Thanks so much!!!!

  • Glad you liked it. The folks who put this documentary together covered a lot of ground in only one hour ... a job well done!

    :-)

  • thank u !!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for this, havent seen this in a very long time...thanks a lot!!!

  • humm no Zombies,Cream,Or Jefferson Airplane..

Almost had all the bands here too.

  • Thank you so much for uploading these vids. For such a short documentary, it covered a lot! Best of all were clips hardly ever seen in the usual discussion of the British invasion. The BBC or some other source should make a longer more in depth project. The era deserves it. Thanks!

  • Spirtw72, thanks for the comments! I agree with you completely - - the producers of this documentary certainly did a fine job. A longer, more in depth look at this important era would be a tremendous achievement.

  • Glam Rock took over! simple as that.. there are sheep and sheepdogs in life!
