  • Great clip. Thanks for posting. This aired on Tuesday, January 26, 1988.

Kudos to Stuart (sp?) Brown for lowering his voice while taping his tease.

Nowadays, when reporters report live from political rallies or press conferences, they talk so loudly that they practically disrupt the event - an appallingly rude practice.

(If you look closely during such live shots, you almost always see people shooting dirty looks at the reporter.)

    Hughes, Carol

    Taylor, Kathy

    Scuterri, Linda

  • wow - I was 13...sheesh...am I getting old? It happened so fast. lol

  • I always wanted to munch Edye's Tarbox!

  • She sure turned into some acid tongued shrew, ey?

  • Caliguiri did die in 88. It's weird to see this news report of him not long before his death...he did great things for the city

  • I'd love to get some video of her working at VH1. How did she end up at VH1? By necessity, because she was out of work? Or, did she see it as a good career move? At the time, I believe Rosie O'Donnell was working at VH1. I think their paths may have crossed. Now, Tarbox trashes O'Donnell for sport.

  • I recall Edie Tarbox when she was on VH1 for less than a year. I thought she was adorable and I often wondered what happened to her. I can picture her in my mind and I can hear her voice from her days at VH1. None of those memories equate with E.D. Hill who now works at FoxNews. She was a brunette back then and I see no facial resemblence in the two images. Where have you gone Edie Tarbox? And why have you waived goodbye to your journalistic credibility by working a Fox, assuming you had any.

  • In between, she worked at WABC in the early 1990s on "Eyewitness News."

  • You spelled Edye wrong.

  • I think Move Closer to your world can work today, maybe, an electric guitar version of it

  • It would...but those folks in Philadelphia nearly had an armed revolt when they did a renditiont from the London Philharmonic Orchestra...

  • True... WPXI did use the "techno" version that's on WNEP.

For what it's worth, WPXI/WIIC used MCTYW for many years from the early 70's to the late 90's with some changes in between.

  • WNEP was a low class operation.

  • Did you mean Move closer to your world at the end of nightbeat? If so, on WPVI channel 6 Philadelphia has Action News with the same theme intro, and has the same Move closer to your world at the end. Get a chance, log to WPVI 6 Philadelphia and you'll see.

  • 1989??? I thought Calugiri died in 1988.......Maybe Im wrong

  • okay, so I'm watching this, feeling all nostalgic and happy, but then that opening theme comes in at about 1:50 and I AM DEAD! : )

  • Have/Can you post the opening stories of this partcular newscast, by any chance? I was wondering when they started talking about how Rather became known as a "liberal reporter" (FOX News chief Roger Ailes coached Bush with that, btw).

Love this post, though. I KNEW that music sounded familiar when JP used that for his first ITC nightmare.

  • I had a crush on Edie Tarbox and Margaret Shortridge, too.

  • "I had a crush on Edie Tarbox and Margaret Shortridge, too"

    What about Midge Hill?

  • Wow this takes me back to childhood. I remember that opening music.

  • Channel 6 Action News in Philadelphia has the same theme, if you log on to WPVI TV Action News you'll see.

  • HA HA HA! Stu Brown had brown hair back then!

  • Man, this has made my day becuse I was used to be able to watch WPXI on cable. Now, I'd love to see something with the "dance mix" version of Move Closer to Your World (before they moved to something different)
