  • What's the background music you used from ~2:25 onward? I can't say that I've heard that medley/remix before.

  • @jdaster64piano "Eight Melodies Music Video", on starmennet's channel or here: v=CuacLGHoGgk.

  • how much did it cost?

  • Dam Straight Kid.... rofl

  • btw he kinds looks like my family doctor...like allot

  • we should go back to cartridges i loved them never had to worry about scratches

  • This musta cost you a small fortune, man. I'd imagine everytime you touch it, you get this chill like "DO NOT DROP IT!" lol

  • Since this video was made about a year ago... has it been dumped yet?? o.O!!!

  • My brother was flustered when he didn't play the game

  • It looks as tho it may be similar to that of Dragon Warrior?

  • good video !

  • nexty thing you know as soon as the video ends he picks it up and slams it on the ground! XD jkjk i know that he will take care of it! OR ELESE!

  • Your the spitting image of Louis Theroux!

  • today theyre normally called prom for those you see with the stickers on it. because it was very confusing for everyone whos not the best in english pronounciation when they just added an extra e for electronicly-erasable.

  • can you at least play the game and have fun with it

  • I got to the first boss, Star Man Jr he used PK Beam on me. Instant death lol

  • @ProtoMario You have to get a franklin badge!

  • @Emelljee He has an awesomeness gold courage badge. Good enough to tide one over.

  • Thumb if you sang along to the song in the background :D

  • when you where shutting down the system you lol you seemed a little OCD about it from the system saying "Reset, Power, Off", then wait..then turn shut down the tv....did you say it, and then do it, because you needed to be careful with how you shut down the game because it is on rewritable rom sets? Or do you shutdown all your NES/SNES games/systems like that?

  • @medicwheat69

This is the proper way of turning off your NES, with any(?) game that can be saved. If you have a nes cartridge with a gold label on the back it mention this as well as not rapidly turning it on and off, and to clean regularly.

I heard rapidly turning it on/off as well as not holding reset before power can corrupt save file due to power spikes when turning it off. But holding the reset button cuts power to the cartridge.

  • @wtfisausername9999 learned something new thanks

  • omg wtf i want it i want it

  • We need a series based on the adventures of Kid NES and Mr. MMC.

  • I wonder what would AVGN do with that rare cartridge? xD

  • @Hidraga It's a splendid game and ridiculously rare. Being a nerd, he'd obviously worship it like a god.

  • @Loliciousfuga I would too actually. :~)

  • your so gentle with your nes

  • The Prototype was released on the internet as a ROM. Then Demiforce hacked it, they changed the title, made a few edits and cut the anti-piracy. Then released on the internet as the popular Earthbound Zero ROM.

  • I hack GBA ROMs, so I know about all of these tech specs (Especially offsets)

  • when i saw you take the cart shell apart in part 1 i freaked out lol

  • Damn ur lucky

  • yeahhh!!!

  • Hey Roo? I've read a lot about reproduction carts of Earth Bound. Do you know where one could get a hold of one? I mean, I know it's not the same as owning a prototype, but it'd be neat to get a hold of one.

  • sheesh this is rarer than Cheetah Men 2.

  • I haven't been following the fan sites and just recently watched your very intersteing videos (theres an upcoming long rpg weekend) and just wanted to know if you (Roo of the clan ot the gray wolf) managed to dump the rom. If not then i recommend to visit the nesdev.parodius.com/bbs/index.php community.

  • lol finished Chugga's Lp yesterday

  • when i start my earthbound zero rom my rom doesn't say "this software is a illegal copy of a nintendo game" so is my rom a bad rom or did i get a different version of earthbound zero

  • did you ever get it dumped?

  • so... what happened in the end? did you ever dump the rom?

  • this is how you hex dump a rom...... first you take your ass, and take a dump on it, then.....

  • Playing "Mother" with a legitimate console experience.

    You're living the dream, man.

  • Keeping out of the cat boxes I eh? XD

  • my rom has zero in the title screen and everything. personally message me if you want it, just give me your email and i'll email you the complete rom you can use with your nes emulator.

  • Very cool video. I saw this linked from nintendoage and it does not disappoint. Thanks for making this and I look forward to more of your videos!

  • I'll give you 500grand for the earth bounds

  • i'm looking for a final fantasy 3 english prototype or final fantasy extreme for snes.

but thats just a dream ^^ both was translated into english!

  • i have better i have a prototype nes system. its so rare that when i try to sell it people dount beleave it. well its oveus cus of the redlabel underneath with a low searial

  • so roo,has anyone contacted you yet? i really wanna know the differences if there are any.

  • Works the same way of burning a CD. Just a little bit more complicated.

  • The way to make an NES cart it to get some EPROMs, a board, and a rom burner. I have no idea where you can get this stuff, but someone could try and look it up.

  • How much did you end up paying for this so?

  • if I were you I would have printed a photo to replace the little tape on it but I guess the tape is kinda part of the history of the prototype

  • Hey very interesting, now I know more what's inside and how works my Sword Master proto, thanks !

  • The original EarthBound (is epic win)!

  • you mean that their are other protoypes of nes games.........awsome!

  • I know retrode will be able to dump nes games in the future, right now it can dump snes games.

  • wait so if you wanted and could you could add in extra programming chips and add or remove from the story that would be cool but it would ruin the value but if you got the dump mabey you could just edit it and save it to your computer their

  • great video - I had no idea it was that rare - I remember seeing one on ebay and wondering what all the fuss was about and why the price was so high - it seemed to sell very quickly too, think it was a "Buy It Now" at around £700 GBP, but my memory is pretty fuzzy. Great video by the way, it's really for some reason "touching" that you'd share your treasure with the community, and I really appreciated all the technical information. Btw, did you ever managed to get it dumped in the end?

  • I'm not sure anyone has ever told you this but your speech mannerisms are similar to Alton Brown from Good Eats. Is this intentional? Do you watch Good Eats?

  • that cart better be a a god damn fire proof safe

  • You should buy a nice box for that Earthbound game. This sites makes custom boxes for NES games. They have a great one of Earthbound too

    uncletusk com/node/357

  • I got mine with a front label without in a original box without any zero on the box or even in the game. I really dont know I just get that game in a closing store for $30 about 12 years ago

  • AWESOME!!!! keep the cart safe man! And thanks for making this video.

  • I have the same TV.

  • I saw a Earthbound nes copy on ebay but signs probably point to it being an illegal copy

  • what the fuck are you going on about? this is no prototype for earthbound, this is mother 1, the predecessor of earthbound (which is mother 2). the english translated "release" was just called "earthbound zero" so american users would recognize it because they might not know the name of earthbound was originally mother 2.

  • @BenBenjiro This Was Originally Earthbound, But With The Realize Of The Snes, They Didn't Realize Mother 1 here And Decided To Go Ahead And Realize Mother 2 as Earthbound, The Zero Thing Was Added By people To Avoid Confusing People

  • @TheInmortalTaco

    1 - its called release.

2 - the series is called "mother" in japan - THE ORIGINAL. there is no "originally earthbound"

3 - the AMERICAN release of mother 2 was renamed earthbound. it had nothing to do with mother 1

  • @BenBenjiro Sorry About he Spelling, Being Mexican Does Not Help, And I Know That The Series Are Called Mother, What I Meant Was That NoA Was Going To Name Mother 1 Earthbound, but With The Release Of The Snes, They didn't release Mother 1, And Named Mother 2 Earthbound, Because Naming It Earthbound 2 Would not make any sence

  • @TheInmortalTaco yeah that makes sense. still, calling Mother 1 a prototype for Earthbound is plainly wrong. sorry to criticize your spelling

  • @BenBenjiro What he Means With Prototype For Earthbound Hes Talking About The English cartridge he has, There Are 4 of those in the world, so he isn't wrong

  • that song in the back ground is beutiful can you tell me the title

  • Oh my god, I love that game! Your very lucky to have a prototype of the game too, I only have a emulator. ;~;

  • This is a very good video, very educational, I had no idea about where earthbound came from all I knew was that it was never released. I played this on nesticle like ten years ago and I was very impressed. It's a damn shame that it was never released.

  • If you want to dump the ROM, you can solder a CopyNES board to your NES and dump it through USB. Unfortunately, it involves grounding the 10NES chip, so it can't be used to play other games after and it's not easy to install. :(

  • I want this rom but its illegal to download it isnt it? They dont sell it anymore and its not like nintendo would care would they? Now they have the nintendo wii and this is an old game. Nobody is making monny off it. Would it be legal to download this rom?

  • @Sukikeri he has said this before, it is illegal, but nintendo doesnt care about people playing/ illegaly downloading it, just look up earthbound zero, hope u like the game

  • I know some Bixlers in Ohio where i live.........his prototype must be mine!

  • For some reason, my rom has no zero at the title screen, does that mean mine was from someone else?

  • @qrrbrrbirbel12345678 That is possible. Most likely it was an earlier version of the rom (have you successfully made it through the whole game?) or perhaps someone else hacked it. I've never come across a rom without the "zero" in the title myself.

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf Well, almost the whole game, I can't beat giegue. -_-

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf I've played through both and there's no major differences I could point out.

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf my rom on my hacked psp is the same and the rom is called EARTHboundproto(eng) and im like halfway though it

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf the rom i downloaded from emuparadise doesn't have a zero too

and it has big letters just like your cartridge , and its written down 1989/1990

i really have the real prototype

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf There are some roms without the zero. My guess is that Demiforce released two versions, one that was a clean dump and one that was hacked to work on NESticle and renamed "Earthbound Zero"

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf The prototype has been released online (I own it...)

    I'm pretty sure it's legit...

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf My copy has no 0 Either =)

  • @qrrbrrbirbel12345678 So does mine, but thats probally cuz they had to intention to make a sequel at the time some of the protoypes are bring made.

  • @qrrbrrbirbel12345678 my rom doesn't have a zero either

  • @qrrbrrbirbel12345678 THE "ZERO" was added by neo Demiforce, I have a copy (ROM) without the "ZERO". It is the unmodified version of the rom Neo Demiforce hacked. It is perfectly normal, although a bit less common.

  • @IMACLAUS I know, I got someone to transfer the ROM data to the cartridge, and I'm not lieing.

  • This deserves a place in a glass cabinet, or on display in a museum/Nintendo World!

  • I own this game, it's not an original prototype but still I have it for my NES, didn't beat it though....YET, also got it for free :D

  • Are those Mario and Bowser bobbleheads? I WANT THEM

  • i own a reproduction cart

  • Where is this music from? Also, great video, I love all of the internals of the cart explained.

  • A truly elite piece to any collection. Cherish it.

  • when was this prototype actually made because i was wondering because u showed a pic of 1 and it was all dirty and yours is like brand new just wondering because it may pbe a reproduction video game?

  • Thats such an amazing find! Im amazed at how you got one of the rarest nes games ever!! Congrats (:

Now just for the hell of it try and find earthbound 64 lol

  • I like the trombone part.

  • oh u watch lets plays and even chuggaaconroy

  • You are a lucky man... when i win the lottery i will buy it from you, for an offer you can't refuse, I would also like to really get my hands on the original prototype that demiforce dumped so long ago, I want them all. (im greedy, i know)

  • I'm suprised that backup battery hasn't died yet.

  • I'm a huge MOTHER/Earthbound fan and collector of all things MOTHER/Earthbound, you my friend have something I have always dreamed of having, though I knew I would never have one. a Earthbound NES Prototype. Must feel amazing to have such a rare game in your possession. I'm jealous, Any MOTHER/Earthbound fan would envy what you have, but, even though I don't have any of the prototypes of Earthbound to myself, I'm just happy to see that at least one of them, to my knowledge, is in great care.

  • i am intrested myself to see if its the same game most likely it is i dont know how to dump a rom either but why dont you play through the prototype aside the rom and if there are diffrences well i am sure anyone would post it on starman

  • Very, very interesting video. Thanks for spending your spare time to make this!

  • "PK Hypnosis!" *steals EB zero*

  • I've noticed three pictures in your house that look like some kind of drum corps or marching band. Details please.

  • Earthbound KICKSASS!!!!!!

  • Why do you hold down reset before pressing power? Have I been damaging all my NES games by not doing such?

  • @papayacatproductions Old NES cartridges with a battery backup always had a warning on the back to hold the reset button while you turned off the power so as not to accidentally erase the save data you have stored on the battery. Come to think of it, I'm not sure exactly why that is, but it's so ingrained in me now, it doesn't seem right not to do it.

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf Actually, I have a copy of The Legend of Zelda that does -not- have that warning on the back. It just says that rapidly turning the system on and off, or resetting it repeatedly, will erase the save data. My guess is that I have a really early print run copy of the game, which is why the warning is absent.

  • @papayacatproductions

i think nintendo said in the game that thats saver

  • i'll buy eb0 off of you for $10,000

  • I won't lie.... I'm absolutely jealous of you. That has to be the most awesome find in the history of mankind. I'd kill to find a prototype of an unreleased game.

  • Hey hey man, you ever hear about that new game splatterhouse? You can buy the unreleased completed beta game for 675$ Some guy is selling the game.Just look it up!

  • @IAMPICTUREMAN yeah its called a pirate and that asshole got arrested

  • I know...

  • @beyondthegrave2005 same here, i would even go around the country in a delorean and play search music on the radio, i will have earth-bound!!!!!!

  • @beyondthegrave2005

In that case there's an Earthbound Zero going on Ebay right now for thirty bucks. It's only got a day left so you better hurry!

  • Already watching Chugga, thats how i found u

  • LOL Keep it out of the catboxes.

    Win.

  • waaaiiiit... what happens when the battery backup dies on you? goddam lol, that's a cart I would never touch with a soldering iron

  • Actually, the battery is the easiest thing to replace. I believe you can just slip it out of the metal contact on top.

  • awesome video

  • excellent vids.

  • You're great man, thnx for this video from an Italian Fan!

    Greetings :D

  • At about 2:28, what is the song called?

  • It's the intro music from Mother/EarthBound Zero. I don't think it has a name besides "Introduction".

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf It's basically Eight Melodies :D

  • Eight Melodies.

  • Mother Earth, I believe.

msprout, Eight Melodies is the song you need to find in the game.

  • Well, I meant the version in the video. The one with those instruments.

  • That's the only name I know it goes by (in the Mother 1+2 OST). I saw a scan of the Mother OST reprint booklet, and it has the track 'The World of Mother (Extended Version)', which starts with that song (in chiptune), but continues with the other tracks in the game.

Otherwise, yeah, it doesn't seem to have a name.

  • CHUGGA :D yes he does amazing LPs lol interesting how you know and mentioned him here.

  • Was the Cold status ailment in Prototype 1?

I've played through the game in both the EB0 ROM and on MOTHER 1+2 and I've never actually gotten a cold.

  • You can get a cold from someone in Twinkle Elementary.

  • Some enemies can also give you colds, like in the Super Nintendo Earthbound.

  • DUMPING A ROM:

You said you didn't want to pay for it, but since you're obviously interested in electronics then perhaps you'd like an EPROM writer/reader? See the sivava . com website.

They are not expensive anymore, get a Willem for $39.

In some cases you can dump an EPROM from an old ISA Ethernet card which has the appropriate socket, but that is difficult (requires assembly coding and deep understanding, and some luck).

  • @getpagesize

dude i would totally not recommend willems... for one they are parallel ports and 2nd they are very unreliable even though they are cheap

get a usb programmer they are like 100 bucks but they are atleast well working

  • @spiritro06

I have one myself and it works perfectly fine.

If you don't have a DB-25 port on your computer, then that is too bad for you.

$100 is over twice as much as a Willem, he was looking for a no-cost-solution, ergo you shouldn't recommend something which is expensive; a Willem works perfectly fine, all products have some instances of them with manufacturing defects; you have probably just had bad luck with yours.

  • Love the video! Thanks for sharing this with all us!

  • Im sure a museum would pay a large sum for that. Im not saying sell it yet, have you time with it, then think about selling it to a Museum, because lets face it I agree with you it kinda would fit in one.

  • awesome he knows about Chugga SWEEY!

  • misspell much

  • roo your so lucky, how much did it cost?

  • $1100 US

  • i keep mine in school boxs in my vault hidden in my closet

    YAY FOR PARNOID people

  • i keep all my games in a cat box. thats normal right?
