Kuntaw and Silat are being practiced mainly in the mindanao islands that has similarities with the art of silat in Indonesia. Gage trained Eric Knuas, of the " Dog Brothers," and you can type in youtube dog brothers and check their training out. He is the real deal, but he is getting old, but I will always respect great teachers like this for passing down their arts.

The Philippine Islands also has a Malay culture and was once part of a kingdom that ruled the islands of Malaysia, Indonesia and some part of Thailand. The art of Kali and Silat has alot of similarities and the only difference is what it is called today. Kuntaw and Silat are being practiced mainly in the mindanao islands that has similarities with the art of silat in Indonesia. The kingdom of Borneo settled in the Panay Islands so what made you think that they are very different?

@Thaliador Kali and Silat Both have a large number of different "styles" or systems and in some of the systems, the techniques and concepts compliment each other vary well, I knowof many teachers that blend the two arts because they do compliment each other quite well. To say that kali and Silat are very different is Not completely true. many of the "techniques" look different but the "concepts are very simllar

I think people today have to think critically. While I don not question GT Gaje's skills in FMA, I have to question certain claims he has and continues to make. Claiming thier style as the "true kali" (not the "watered down" arnis or escrima) directly contradicts the fcat that PTK was once PTA (Pekiti Tirsia Arnis). The art itself is effective enough so that there isno need for this type of "hard sell."

Agree.FMA should be propagated and promoted in friendship, truth, and honesty. FMA doesn't need mythical fabrications to prove its worth. The Philippines has many arnis styles maybe in the hundreds but they coexist side by side and they all know who's who. Newbies to the art must be ready to offer their allegiance to truth and not to one person or group or ideology.
