  • spelling out the alphabet with you feet and icing ur shins help somewhat...when icing u have to get an icecube and press down hard on where u have shin splints... hurts like a b***** but its worth it

  • Shes right this could work, the main thing is to strengthen the muscles at the front of the shins. Shin splints are caused by muscle imbalances in the lower leg, also make sure u r wearing correct footwear for your foot type.

  • I get my thumbs and massage my Tibuli muscle super hard so it hurts be fore I run. I also do it during the run as well, and rub hard so it hurts. If real bad, Ben Gay too. But once my gristle has built up on my shin, I'm all good.

  • Im a amateur boxer and its really annoying beacause everytime i skip or run my legs hurt so bad :( painkillers dont help either

  • @GoneFishinStudios I feel the same way except I do muay thai. Skipping rope, running and throwing kicks hurts so bad.

  • @MongoTime09 fuck shin splints. you know its one thing when you go run and your calves are sore, u can take a day off then get right back to running, shin splints don't fucking heal in 1 day, it takes fucking weeks to a couple of months. I'm so fucking frustrated.

    Did you try warming up? Because I have shin splints as well, but after warming up, i don't feel the pain anymore.

  • that's a very intuitive exercise, my shins ha ve hurt b4 and I would for some reason do that ankle rotation to ease the pain. didn't know it could prevent it all together.

  • I wouldnt advise anyone to take advice from these idiots posting 'solutions' etc to shin splints. If you really want to sort them out visit your GP or a sports medicine professional.

  • There can be different causes of shinsplints which need different treatments. Mine were caused by tight calfs which required massage to remove knots in the tissue.

  • you don't need excercises to get rid of shin splints. you need to spend as much time barefoot as possible, walk and run with a forefoot strike, ditch your massive chunky shock absorbing shoes and replace them with a shoe that is as close to barefoot as possible.

  • that sucks i got rid of them by icing them for 20 mins and 5 mins off and then back on and repeat and staying off of my legs and then when i started jumping on a softer surface they were fine

  • u get it when the muscle is torn away from the bone, this is due to an imbalance of calf muscles or in my case being flat footed, i treated mine with orthotics, massage,similar exercises and R.I.C.E, wobble boards work great for exercise if you can get your hands on one, if u dont treat it you can get stress fractures witch ive been told are a bitch to get rid of, if you yanks have it try emu oil when you run, work wonder's for the short term

  • i have stress fractures in my shins currently and have been treated for shin splints and stress fractures for two years- i know my stuff... the excerise that you are doing strengthens the ankles not the muscles attached to the tibias...

  • oh ok. maybe i'm just imagining the burning sensations in the tibialis anterior, then.

  • if you have stress fractures then you obviously didnt listen to your body when you were putting it under too much stress. these exercises strengthen the muscles which prevent these problems. tonic water reduces muscle tightness because of quinine which helps if you just have tightening of the muscles. do some research into trigger points in the tibialis anterior.

  • you should try it sometime. you might feel differently. besides, the exercises are targeted to PREVENT shin splints rather than help get rid of them. next time you comment on a video, please make sure your information is correct before declaring something that you really don't know anything about. thanks.
