The reason 6B is not called the shows 7th season , is because it thematically progresses 6A . Tony near death exprerience as Kevin Finnerty brought him a chance to reflect upon his life so far , all the bad things hes done , and ultimately make some good redemptive choices in the future. However , 6B ultimately shows that Tony fails to follow through with that experience , and how everything slowly starts to crumble (NY-NJ war , end of his relationship with Christopher etc)

@whitewolves1992 : I don't know. It was David Chase's call I think. I think to him, those final 9 episodes are considered part of the 6th season, and not an actual 7th season. However, as you can see, HBO did call it a "Final Season."
