saw this at the makers faire 2008 in cali, i was amazed at how far away the heat could be felt from the flames. very cool how the heart beats fire then fully engulfs.
By the way, doesn't anyone realize how much energy is wasted for a rock concert or a rave? I wonder if everyone walks or rides their bicycle to the show? I wonder if they used electricity used for the lighting, the amplifiers, the soundmixer, and the vendors to cook your hotdogs? Stop your judgments about how "green" art is, just enjoy it. It's YOUR job to be effectively "green".
I seen this piece, it was one of a group of eight sculptures with a 90 ft tall wooden tower. Titled "Crude Awakening". Artists designed it to evoke an emotional impact on the thousands of people who visited it. The sculptures were all facing the derek, to represent man-kinds worship of oil. After the derek was celebratory burned, in it's place a giant redwood tree was erected. If Art doesn't enlighten you then, it's not art. If art has a function, like a clock, then it's not "art".
Possibilities for later? WTF is that all about.... your waisting gas to maybe cook hot dogs or what..? Looks cool... but not to green in it's concept.
I know, but even if they are recycling, it takes a lot of energy and resources to recycle 6 tons of steel. They should do it for something functional, I mean who needs a 6 ton sculpture? And don't get me started on how excessively huge their workshop is.
I'm sure some fool out there is going to turn this piece of art/expression into something totally awry. Great job! I wish I could afford to have something similar to that, but at a smaller scale, to put in my yard to promote your feelings for this project. I am sooo impressed and awed by your insight and thought process for this project.
"A return to worshiping nature"? What's the carbon footprint on this little gem - is it the same as 30 Lincoln Navigators? You have the right to build impressive fire-breathing sculptures and people have the right to drive their SUVs - that's fair right?
they should have built the World Trade Center Towers out of this cheap recycled steel because the certified 6 inch thick steel columns of the towers didn't last with the kerosene fire. kerosene, you know lantern fuel. yeah, that's basically waht jet fuel is.
wired has a nasty hippie infestation.

For later when the sculptures are able to have outstretched hands to hold hot dogs & burgers. And they will make it in the image of George Foreman.

I want to honor nature, but not worship it.
I'm tired of people worshiping anything at all.
