This is a habituated bear. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries needs to address bear baiting. I've turned in illegal bear baits in Rockingham County, and no one does anything about it. VDGIF knows what is going on. The official who commented in the news report of this incident recognized that this bear is habituated. Very dangerous. You guys are just lucky. We need to stop the bear baiting or more of this kind of thing is going to happen and someone is going to get killed!
@TheKelley0715 What an oaf you obviously are.Get off the couch and experience something besides your tv or computer,Seems like most of the rational peeps on here see you as the idiot, just say'in
I would also echo the person below who said best thing you can do is just leave the bear alone, don't go looking for him or anything. And please read some of the pages like Casey Anderson's or the North American Bear Center to learn about bear safety so you can more safely go fishing in bear country...Beautiful bear and I'm glad no one was hurt (not you nor the bear)!
Hey guys - That bear was acting normal for a bear, but y'all were VERY lucky that he didn't just decide to take a chomp out of your foot (because it's food for him). The best thing for you to have done would have been to make some noise and try to scare the bear away, and if he didn't run off then blast him with some bear pepper spray. You do NOT want the bear to think it's OK to hang around with humans - a person might get hurt/killed and bear will probably end up dead...
Yea that was a bit close. But now you got a pair of shoes with bragging rights. She didn't have rabies, she was just very used to people. Usually you can get rid of her by yelling and walking towards her. Beautiful bear!
He clearly is just acting like a normal healthy bear (which is a wild animal) that wants some donuts!! hes adorable, we have close encounters with them. He wants to know what yall doing down here around my neck of the woods? Hope all leave him alone.
@lovaxl Absolutely beautiful animal,I've been around numerous bears, but this was a lifetime opportunity.I went back the next day and did'nt see a sign of him,I suppose he was just passing thru
@TheKelley0715 Apparently you misunderstood the video. The bear walked out of the woods in their direction....the guys did not carry the bear into the woods ON A LEASH and release it. Good post though...always nice to see the lunatic fringe represented.
Hey guys...I'm in Franklin county and saw this on WDBJ7 the other day. Pretty cool experience to say the least. Not sure I would have been that calm. That "huff" and stomp had to be a bit intimidating. Thanks for sharing.
@ducsauce85 Hey,thanks for the interest,it was a cool deal that i will never experience again.Ihave been around bears for a while but never that close
@CorporalCob We were fishin and he just dropped in.He was never a threat,if he had wanted to hurt me,he could have bitten my foot off,it was pretty cool,I'll never get to experience something like this again,so there was no reason to get excited

@TheKelley0715 The bear walked up on these guys while they were fishing. They had the bear in front of them and a lake behind them.
