Any person young or old who earnestly desires to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon (which was translated by Joseph Smith by the power of God) can gain their own personal testimony if they so desire. You may know the goodness of something by its fruits. The Book of Mormon can change a life for the better.

@thermionic1234567 It says that twice in the Bible, and refers ONLY to those 2 books, not the entire Bible, as the Bible was put together far after those books were written, otherwise, anything after Deuteronomy would be the "addition" to the Bible you refer to as well.

It is another clarifying witness of Christ and contains the fullness of the gospel. The Book of Mormon is not intended to replace the Bible. It is intended to unite Christians under one faith and one baptism in Christ's only true Church. Read Ephesians 4:5.

Praise is not synonymous with worship. Mormons don't worship Joseph Smith. Parents praise their children all the time for their accomplishments. Praising someone is not a sin. Worshiping them is.

Praise is different from worship. Why else do you always hear "Praise and Worship" coupled together. If they were synonyms, it wouldn't be necessary to include both words in the phrase. Parents praise their children all the time for making a good grade on a test or winning a tennis match. I guess billions of parents are heretical as well. Praise and worship mean 2 different things, my friend. I worship my Savior Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven!

Simply...if you beleive in the Bible you should believe in Prophets. God doesn't change, therefore He must work in the same way. He always worked through Prophets and Apostles in the 'old' days so He must call them in our days also. Yet, as in the 'old' hardly anyone believed...which is what we are seeing now. No one naturally believes the truth...if you think differently why did almost everyone reject Christ when He was among them. It's only natural for the world to not choose the truth.

The word of wisdom itself is found in the 89th section of the doctrine and covenants. Just like baptisms for the dead are derived from 1 corinthians 15:29. I am a Mormon. Ya see if Noah for example had managed to teach people and cause them to repent the flood waters would have been held back. Likewise there would have been a second coming had so many have been willing to change.
Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. The circumstances of his life and whatever mistakes he may have made does not erase the fact of who he was. Many prophets in the past have made mistakes they are all human beings.

i got an answer the next day when two LDS missionaries showed up at my door. quick story.. i have heard people say that people in all religions feel the same exact spirit that we do. this is true for there is only one spirit of God and it can be felt anywhere where there is praise to God. Our youth went to Nauvoo this summer. This song didn't really mean much to me before then.....but ever since I've gotten back, I cry every time I sing it. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet! I am forever grateful for him and his sacrifice. I can't wait to meet him someday.

Wrong. Early church leader indeed believed that black people had the "curse of Cain" as spoken of in the Bible. That didn't change until 1954, when Pres. David O McKay reversed that belief in a statement.

@pr3ttys- 1. the bible is a compilation of books written by prophets, and the books were seperate for decades after The book of Revelations was written and after Peter Died. Therefore Peter was only reffering to the book of Revelations. 2. When the books were compiled into the Bible most were put in order of time (when it happened) from the beginging of the earth to the prophesies of the end of the earth, NOT when they were written revelations was actually written before other books in the bible

@pr3ttys- the scripture is then talking about 2 books (scripture) that are to be written. the Bible is a book written by and addressed to the Jews or the decendants of Judah. and i believe the book of mormon is the other "stick" it is written and addressed to the seed of Joseph (aka Ephraim). the next verse in Ezekiel then talks about them "being one in thine hand" we (mormons) have something called a Quad which contains both the Bible and The Book of Mormon in 1 book.

The hymn "Praise to the Man" is a way of thanking God for His prophet, and praises Joseph for being a faithful servant of God. I love the idea that hymns are like a prayer and are God's pleasure. It's good for my soul.

@MrRandomppl The composer of this beautiful hymn, William W. Phelps, knew the prophet personally. Phelps wrote many hymns to the Lord, this particular composition was about Joseph. Kind of like the spiritual, "Rock my soul in the Bosom of Abraham." To praise a prophet is to praise God as well.

I teach CTR 5 in my ward and so I get to watch as the primary children learn this song. It is beautiful to watch their testimonies grow through hymns like this one. :D.

Then they should never go to an awards ceremony, receive a certificate, win a trophy, or do ANYTHING praiseworthy for the rest of their life PERIOD!
Praise should not be confused with worship because we do NOT worship the man.

Any person young or old who earnestly desires to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon (which was translated by Joseph Smith by the power of God) can gain their own personal testimony if they so desire. You may know the goodness of something by its fruits. The Book of Mormon can change a life for the better.

@MyLuxuryPass Joseph Smith altered the Bible with his alleged translation. Remember the injunction about whoever adds a Jot or a tittle to the book is anathema? Joseph Smith did. He also prohesied that the temple in Independence would be completed in that generation's lifetime. It was not. See Deuteronomy 18:6. And by the way, 18:6 was translated properly AND is in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

@thermionic1234567 It says that twice in the Bible, and refers ONLY to those 2 books, not the entire Bible, as the Bible was put together far after those books were written, otherwise, anything after Deuteronomy would be the "addition" to the Bible you refer to as well.

It is another clarifying witness of Christ and contains the fullness of the gospel. The Book of Mormon is not intended to replace the Bible. It is intended to unite Christians under one faith and one baptism in Christ's only true Church. Read Ephesians 4:5.

Praise is different from worship. Why else do you always hear "Praise and Worship" coupled together. If they were synonyms, it wouldn't be necessary to include both words in the phrase. Parents praise their children all the time for making a good grade on a test or winning a tennis match. I guess billions of parents are heretical as well. Praise and worship mean 2 different things, my friend. I worship my Savior Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven!

Simply...if you beleive in the Bible you should believe in Prophets. God doesn't change, therefore He must work in the same way. He always worked through Prophets and Apostles in the 'old' days so He must call them in our days also. Yet, as in the 'old' hardly anyone believed...which is what we are seeing now. No one naturally believes the truth...if you think differently why did almost everyone reject Christ when He was among them. It's only natural for the world to not choose the truth.

@infinightsky We don't drink tea coffee or alcohol because it is against the word of wisdom, which we have learned through study of the scriptures. The word of wisdom itself is found in the 89th section of the doctrine and covenants. Just like baptisms for the dead are derived from 1 corinthians 15:29. I am a Mormon. I am forever thankful for the opportunity I have to learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ya see if Noah for example had managed to teach people and cause them to repent the flood waters would have been held back. Likewise there would have been a second coming had so many have been willing to change.

i got an answer the next day when two LDS missionaries showed up at my door. This is the true church and people will use the anti-mormon literature they hear from every other church all day long. you must have a strong testimony and not debate with these kind of people. pray for them and tell them how much God has blessed you for following his commandments and his true church. never fight for the spirit will not dwell wherever there is debate. pray for faith in the spirit, never ask for a sign.

quick story.. i have heard people say that people in all religions feel the same exact spirit that we do. this is true for there is only one spirit of God and it can be felt anywhere where there is praise to God. @ScienceReasonBelief and actually fasting and praying does work. i already shared my missionary story of them showing up at my door. that was my prayer being answered. and fasting is not just some thing someone made up. look up the science of fasting, after all your name is science reason belief. if you fast it works with medulla in the back of your brain and gives you a better understanding of the spirit. it helps you feel good as well. and it is you who is assuming we do nothing but fast

This all comes from the fact that blacks were not allowed to hold the preisthood in the church until 1978, for reasons i cannot entirely explain. But i would like to point out- for reasons that i cannot entirely explain- that the Hebrews or the Isralites (gods chosen people) were commanded not to preach the gosple to non-hebrews. Old Testament

Wrong. Early church leader indeed believed that black people had the "curse of Cain" as spoken of in the Bible. That didn't change until 1954, when Pres. David O McKay reversed that belief in a statement.

Oh, good, you believe in going to someone who knows! I escaped from Mormonism after 30 years, including serving a mission, branch pres, elders quorum pres, gospel doctrine teacher, ward choir director, BYU grad.

I feel sorry for those who are truely trapped, those who find joy in tearing others down instead of lifting them. I have tried the other way. Why doesn't MsEndure have any proof that Smith was killed due to religious bigotry?
Why isn't Smith as bad as Warren Jeffs? --both had sex with underage girls.
Why are there so many anachronisms (things that don't belong) in the Bk of Mormon?
Why did Smith get the Bk of Abraham translation wrong?

Kinderhook plates were a hoax as explains in the article.....as for warren jeffs, he is being convicted of several different things. What does that have to do with joseph smith? you base your comments off of wrong information. Im sure you just read some antimormon literature and now want to comment on what you think you know is "true."
As LDS's, our convictions our sure for most of us. I know of no other religion where their members believe with certainty as we do. JS was a prophet of god! :)

@pr3ttys- 1. the bible is a compilation of books written by prophets, and the books were seperate for decades after The book of Revelations was written and after Peter Died. Therefore Peter was only reffering to the book of Revelations. 2. When the books were compiled into the Bible most were put in order of time (when it happened) from the beginging of the earth to the prophesies of the end of the earth, NOT when they were written revelations was actually written before other books in the bible

@pr3ttys- sorry 1 more thing i would like to point out. in the book of Ezekiel 37:16 it says "moreover thou son of man, take thee one stick, and whrite upon it, for Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick and write upon it, for Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions" paper in this time was in the form of scrolls (a long peice of paper rolled around a rod or a stick thus often called "sticks")

@pr3ttys- the scripture is then talking about 2 books (scripture) that are to be written. the Bible is a book written by and addressed to the Jews or the decendants of Judah. and i believe the book of mormon is the other "stick" it is written and addressed to the seed of Joseph (aka Ephraim). the next verse in Ezekiel then talks about them "being one in thine hand" we (mormons) have something called a Quad which contains both the Bible and The Book of Mormon in 1 book.

Does anyone else find it at all morally compromising that all these supposed 'prophets' like J.S. and Mohammed had sex with children? Not that I'm nitpicking, but it seems if some janitor named Joe Smith was caught with a 14 year old girl, they wouldn't exactly be writing songs about him. I mean, fuck, doesn't your conscience register that this is not morally laudable behavior? Religion works by drilling lies into children, but Smith and Mohammed actually DRILLED them! Evil; and you know it.

The hymn "Praise to the Man" is a way of thanking God for His prophet, and praises Joseph for being a faithful servant of God. I love the idea that hymns are like a prayer and are God's pleasure. It's good for my soul.

@MrRandomppl The composer of this beautiful hymn, William W. Phelps, knew the prophet personally. Phelps wrote many hymns to the Lord, this particular composition was about Joseph. Kind of like the spiritual, "Rock my soul in the Bosom of Abraham." To praise a prophet is to praise God as well.

@MrRandomppl Doctrine & Covenants Section 132 teaches about the new and everlasting covenant of marriage, and our potential to become like Heavenly Father through our obedience and faith.
We worship God the Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost reveals to us what is true, and that's how we know Joseph Smith is a prophet of God.
The gospel is very deep.

@edydon Finish the phrase "Praise to the Man" and you find "who communed with Jehovah, Jesus appointed that prophet and seer." As you can see, it's a hymn to a great prophet of God. When we praise His prophets, we praise God, Who appointed and approved them.

I teach CTR 5 in my ward and so I get to watch as the primary children learn this song. It is beautiful to watch their testimonies grow through hymns like this one. :D.
