  • I knew jene, he was a cool guy

  • y all in 2004..?..

  • @gkraz what is wrong with you?!?!?! You fucking pig!

  • he should have jumped from the tower, if your going out !!! Go out in style.

  • in response to BrassxSword .. the authorities have cameras on the bridge all the time which was the one that captured Gene's jump ... they sent police up to him to ask him why he was hanging about ... he said he was fine and just enjoying the scene .. they continued to watch him as a precaution .. but he jumped way too quick , whereas others will climb over and think about it more and have time for ppl to help/talk to them etc ...

watch a documentry called "The Bridge"very good film about this

  • I could careless about a male stranger committing suicide, but a woman committing suicide is one less pussy in the world and that ain't cool. That is good pussy gone for good, a pussy a dick ain't never had and never will. That's fucked up, that would be a waste of good flesh. I once knew a girl who took her own life by poisoning, what a waste of gorgeous beauty and nice piece of ass she had. I barely knew her. She made a poor choice, and the wrong choice, at a young age.

  • @gkraz That is all you can think of, you selfish cunt.

  • @gkraz lol omfg. die you dumb cunt

  • hmm. seems like the person filming knew something was up with the guy and that he was most likely going to commit suicide. i wonder why the person didn't bother calling the cops or going over there to have a word with him instead of filming him the whole time..i bet they even made some money off this video in the end :/.

  • @BrassxSword They got permission to do it and it was a Documentary about it. It happens so often that authorities don't do much about it.

  • @BrassxSword noone was filming they had permission to set the cameras on the bridge because they said it was for documenting traffic patterns but it was really for this exact reason to catch suicide jumpers, This is from the documentary the Bridge

  • i bet 2004 had a lot of sharks

  • So sad I'm in tears

  • this video has me in tears because I have had moderate depression along with 1 attempt to take my life............ This young mans like me and many others.... when you are depressed and suicidal as sad as it sounds to people who do love them they dont realise that anymore they have an inkling but sort of knock it back because they are so down they just cannot grasp the fact because their minds are almost.. warped about themselves. everything is dark negative and they cannot seem to find the good

  • hah he had a capcom shirt on

  • may be it's time to install a fence along this bridge ...

  • @ACTUEL1

That's not going to prevent any Mexican suicides. We need an Equal Opportuny Suicide Preventor.

  • ohh gene!! shit!

  • That was me :'(

  • @martygoose why?

  • @lumigrace I was unhappy :'(

  • @cliiff100,good on you bud,may you live long and be happy

  • People who mock suicidal people saying its the cowards way out and its selfish are the most pathetic scum there are, I bet you morons also believe in a magical wizard in the sky.

  • @dudemanthingpersonww Seriously, get fucked. It is one of the most selfish things a person in a developed country can choose to do.

Am I mocking one of my friends who took their own life? No. I'm saying what I honestly feel about him doing that, and the way he chose to do that.

If anyone should have a right to take your life, it should be your mother. Mothers aren't supposed to attend their children's funeral.

  • that doesn't look so bad. 3:23 sums up my thoughts.

  • R.I.P you homeless freak

  • @yodaddaisindahouse I wonder if you say shit like that without the protection of the internet

  • i dont understand who was filming that and why they would just stand and watch. including the people standing next to him

  • @misterservinis i'm pretty sure they film the bridge a lot because how often it happens, but they're far too far away to do anything about it except for calling 911 and it takes awhile for them to arrive, but i agree with people who are walking and standing by. I think it's because they think someone else will talk to him or help him so they don't help, but they all think someone else will so no one does.

  • imo only cowards commit suicide! It's most shelfish and easy way to leave behind all your sorrows and left all the problems UNSOLVED!! They only think of themselved not the people who love them

  • @snoopy84able The way I see it is you didnt choose to come into this world so you are not obligated to live it if you dont want to. Imagine if you had constant pain and depression and anxiety that you cant treat and the world is pretty fucked up so call it the cowards way out and see how you feel about that label when your old

  • I'd rather live, thank you.

  • its so sad to see that they do this and take suicide im waring not do thias at home ...

  • Who was taking this video and not helping him???

  • @kbcraw

A documentary crew set up cameras for a year to document suicide jumpers. The filmakers called 911 whenever they spotted a suicide jumper and saved six lives. But in this case it wasn't even apparent he was going to jump until he stood up. So unless you think Superman was on the film crew, there was nothing they could have done.

  • @loner1878 ....thanks for the info...

  • @kbcraw Me, I did it for the lulz

  • @kbcraw i was. its a fetish of mine.

  • as tragic as this is for the guy and his family and friends there is something quite beautiful about the way he did it so serenely

  • how come the camera could follow him down?? if they were watching him how come they didn't try to stop him? just curious

  • @vincentmack37 they say they were watching him for an hour or so, and none of his behaviour of walking back and forth on the bridge seemed suspicious, another excuse was that the cameras were 2 miles away from the bridge with only a phone link with the bridge security.

But it's also likely that they were lacking good footage and let the guy jump, if you watch the whole film you can see that this is the best jump and that's why they show it at the end, and drag his story for the entire length.

  • some people on here need to learn respect for others.

  • im glad im living the happiest life. never thought ppl would just take their lives for depression and all la.

  • Often thought about it. Never had the balls to do it.

  • Y wud they :(

  • To see him jump fast forward to 3:54. I smoke weed to fly (Looks like this guy should have done the same)

  • @TheDrunkenkiller either grow up or fuck off.

  • and I was working the 3rd shift (11pm to 8am) and then working during the day to get my business going.

  • And I was not always like that. I hit 2 years of hell, overwork, over-worry, and I think I drained the positive serotonin chemicals in my brain that simple. It was also that I was a perfectionist in my work, and any error was HUGE, no matter how ridiculous that seems.

  • People kill themselves because of FEAR. They are afraid of everything. I know; been there. But now I am out. See a doctor and get meds; it helped me.

  • if you do not understand, you do not understand. It's that simple.

  • why do people kill themselves? there's no point in giving up, seriously. And why are people walking by not stopping them or trying to help, or is this like an every day thing, holy shit.

  • Really really sad, Felt kinda sick deep inside when i watched the documentary earlier this evening.

  • When you hit the water you're travelling at 75 mph. That knocks you unconscious then you drown.

  • He went out in style

  • as long as you land streamlined with ur hands straight and above your head you survive.

  • Just watched the film which features this clip(The Bridge). Gene had been struggling with his depression for some time and this was his only way of solving it. RIP fella

  • People can only take so much...People have their breaking points... People choose to live and die.

  • Hitting water at a high velocity is similar to hitting concrete. Water is denser than air and so releases kinetic energy similarly to a solid mass. Water tension delivers the full kinetic impact. This is dependent on how high the jump is and if terminal velocity is reached. Sometimes, the neck or back breaks and the person goes paralyzed and drowns, but it is usual that people die instantly as the impact stops the heart and breaks every bone in the body.

  • He Jumps at 4:00 Rate up so others don't have to wade throught all the other people.

  • @Heyyitsashlynn they heard about all the suicide so they went there everyday until they captured something

  • how did they catch this on video?

  • you die from hitting water because of surface tension. its like hitting cement. the water is liquid after you break the "cement"

  • 57worldwide, i answered your comment to me without shit talking, but i read your statements to others here and i gotta say you don't know shit about suicide or depression. what your speaking comes from a place of zero compassion, understanding, or wisdom, so i'm going to ask that you please just shut the fuck up. to everyone else: ignore this guy. i'm not sure if he's completely ignorant, selfish, or a troll.

  • @avalanchesoul Mate, I talked to a friend about the way I felt sometimes, feeling like I didn't like where I was. Talking alot of negative things. Two weeks later, he took his own life. I wouldn't have thought he was selfish in doing so if it hadn't been his mother and fucking younger sister who found his dead body hanging.

Don't assume that just because I don't share your opinion that I don't know what I'm talking about. I have dealt with my own depression before, but you can't deal alone.

  • @avalanchesoul Allow me help you friend. I am an ER nurse. Most of what the poster you are talking to has stated as fact is indeed wrong. According to Ronald W. Maris, Ph.D. a renowned expert in suicide, it is NOT difficult, The poster says lack of information leads to suicide. WRONG, According to the book "On the way out" expert Dr.Sean allavo states the more info about suicide the person has, the more likely they will kill themselves. Advise to Mr.Misinformed? ATTEND college!

  • @KellyAPRN thank you!

an aside: my sis is an RN working in hospice, and i'm getting my pre-reqs now. GO NURSES!

  • What kills you,,,,the impact,,,,sharks,,,,undertow,,,,hypothermia!!!! its only 230 feet, and you land in water,,,its far better than diving into a brick wall,,,just saying.

  • NATURES LITTLE WAY OF CLEANING HOUSE. NO MATTER HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT. LET THEM DO IT AND YOU STOP BEING SO SELFISH

  • SWAN DIVE! In to the best night of you're life.

  • One thing that really spins people out and haunts them is wierd dreams. WHen we sleep their is definitely something spiritual we can tune into and there are things that can taunt us and fuck with our minds and toy with us. Even when you sleep you cannot escape the madness. Psychiatrists will not acknowledge spiritual powers in dreams as they don't understand things that are beyond understanding. I have seen the other side and i can even remember the tatoo marks on my fingernails

  • WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY STOP HIM

how could somebody have been filming it and watching it happen and not DO anything? why didn't somebody just go over to him and say hello or just make sure he wasn't about to jump?

  • @noonehearsmescream1 the guy filming is really far away, also its a documentary not really ment to intervene, watch the full movie, theres far worse people than the guy filming plenty of people just walk by etc,

  • California has that effect on people.

  • "he hurt me." way to make somebody's suicide about you dude. maybe that's part of the reason why he did it.

unrelatedly, there's a story of a school field trip where a kid jumped not knowing people died jumping from the gg bridge; he did it for the shits n giggles....and he lived! imagine on the way down he must've been like, oh shit this is higher than i thought!

  • @avalanchesoul Suicide effects people negatively. If someone is talking about another person's suicide, and they were close friends, of course they will talk about how it hurt them. To try to imply that the person was trying to make another person's suicide about them is to miss the point.

  • @57worldwide obvious thinking. it seems you don't get my point. listen to his statements. he "doesn't understand why anyone would do that." and if he sees him again he's just going to lay a guilt trip on him with "you hurt me." expand your thinking. maybe he could say "i wish i saw something that told me that was coming, so i could have reached out." or, "if i see him, i would say i'm sorry." i don't know your history w/depression, but it don't mirror my friends and my experience.

  • it must be the bridges fault.....f**k putting up a safety net.....if someone actually jumps from that bridge ....and they were safed ...they wouldfind another way......

  • the bridge is suppose to beso alluring to suididal ppl. if it werent for those hidden cameras alot of ppl would have went unnoticed (and missing).

  • I have to give it to him. he did inteed jump like a boss.

Sad though :( Sorry for his family

  • RIP gene si

We can do a video about a guy how

  • Jump, jump, jump, jump, jump lol

  • @MrMontrose1967 what the hell is wrong with you you sick moron

  • It's disturbing to know people STOOD and just watched. Wtf is that??

  • no ive never been homless but if i killed my self id be homeless in this life as in the next im the same person im no one diferent with or with out a body.

  • If the man weighed 165 pounds and the height of the span where he jumped was 240 feet then he would reach about 200 feet per second when he hit the water (this is approximate) or even more if he made his body more streamlined. At that kind of speed, which is about 135 mph, the impact force would typically be fatal to a human body. Unlike air, water has very low compressibility so it really offers very little "cushion" in a fall from great heights.

  • Why are they jumped

  • I don't understand how you die hitting the water? Not so good at this stuff

  • @dymproductions because your falling at high speeds and from that height the water might as well be solid concrete.

  • @dymproductions the water srface is flat in the area and when you fall from great hights at top speeed the water breaks all your bones when landing flat water in other words is solid like cement

  • @dymproductions When you are going that fast, contact with the water is just as bad as contact with pavement or solid ground. that's why planes break up when they hit the water, most of the time

  • Comment removed

  • @dymproductions Your hitting the water at high speeds, the kinetic energy is very high as you fall so when you hit water which is denser than air the body slaps it at the high speed breaking bones and causing bone splinters to fly into major organs and arteries.

  • @dymproductions That 30 feet the water tension is equivalent to hitting concrete.

  • To people who don't know why you die when you hit water, this is why. The faster you travel, the harder it is for water to get out of the way. So when you fall at high speeds off a structure as tall as the golden gate, the water is as hard as concrete and even if you do survive but most likely not, you would be to incapacitated and drown,

  • @dymproductions Knocked unconscious and drowning is the result mostly I imagine. Broken limbs unable to swim even if you tried.

  • @dymproductions a jump from that high hitting water is almost like hitting cement

  • @dymproductions Most jumpers die from trauma upon contact. The fall from the deck will send your body traveling at about 75 miles per hour, and then your body is jolted by the water and your bones will most likely shatter, spinal cord may tear, etc....it's the same level of impact as hitting a concrete wall while doing 75 miles an hour in your car, if not worse.

  • @dymproductions

from going 9km/h to 0 in millisecounds rips your heart and insides apart and broken bones, neck and back also you get knocked out so also drown if not al ready killed

  • @xII4EROIIx . i can easily walk 9km/h and stop immediately without having my insides turn to jello thank you very much.

  • @dymproductions From tahat height you hit the water at 120 miles per hour, its like hitting concrete.

  • i looked on this guys blog and he said he was broke and had no money left and couldn't find work. Imagine how hard it is trying to find work in a country the size of a world with mass unemployment. It drives people made

  • I'm just trying to figure out if people just sit and record the bridge looking for jumpers or what?

  • @philldafunk the filmmaker filmed the bridge for a year, and captured 24 suicides overall. The bridge is the most popular suicide location in the world so they obviously knew people would be there. I don't know if they did anything to stop people jumping though.

  • @petertnicholls Thanks that helps a ton! I was under the impression that people were making this into a spectator's sort of thing.

  • @petertnicholls actually wouldn't Suicide Forest (blanking on real name) in Japan be the most popular? They find anywhere from 50-100 bodies there every year.

  • @Magnificoooooo from what I've read (on wikipedia :P) the forest is second to the bridge, I guess its based on yearly averages rather than the overall highest

  • @philldafunk They have a camera there all year to recorde it, there was a documentry, this is from it

  • @philldafunk no there are cameras which have been set around the bridge

  • @philldafunk its a movie called the bridge, its famous for suicides, one guy filmed the bridge for a year and interviewed the people who knew the jumpers, i wonderedj how he knew who was gonna jump but after a while he said you could tell. very very sad

  • @philldafunk Yes they even have bridge police

  • @philldafunk They recorded the bridge 24/7 to make the documentary i believe.

  • @philldafunk The director filmed the bridge during daylight hours from two separate locations, he had a secured permit to film for months and within those time frame, they caught suicides on film.

  • @philldafunk Documentary...

  • if one day i die i want my dead on youtube please

  • If I remember correctly... this was a photo project done over the year to show the different seasons and the effect on the Bridge. The thing that wasn't expected was the filming of the suicides. Which resulted in the documentary.

  • his an idiot life aint that hard he lose everything both ways in this life and the next

  • @narcovice

You have no idea.I bet you have support, yeah?

    ever been homeless?

  • hope hes found peace, R.I.P GENE SPRAGUE

  • This shouldn't be out on the internet, think about the family, they don't need to know that people are watching their beloved relative/friend/boyfriend die.

  • @Aerochicklet are you just stupid? like no offence but they talked to the family in the full documentary and law requires a signature to be shown. so they accepted it obviously and people are watching it on a dvd anyways

  • @Aerochicklet But what if it saved just one life ? What should be removed is videos of hate & senseless violence.

  • why didnt they just run after the guy and just talk to him instead of just recording? fuck these people that made this doc, they should be the one's who should jump off a bridge, how could they sleep at night.

  • Really haunting music from 3:07 - 4:13. What song is it, please?

  • What could they do to help? They didn't know him, and, from their point of view he just sort of got up on the railing and did it.

  • The help he needed? Right, getting put in a mental institution or being turned into a zombie with medication.

You people who "Save" suicides are often damming them to something worse then death: Being a walking talking vegetable.

  • wtff....

  • PROBABLY BECAUSE SAN FRANCSICO IS SO EXPENSIVE TO LIVE.....PEOPLE FEEL PRETTY WORTHLESS WHEN YOUR JOB PAYS YOU 9 DOLLARS AN HOUR AND YOUR RENT FOR A STUDIO IS 1800 A MONTH

  • how did the person recording know to record this guy??? hmmm conspiracy

  • @Susususannaful They were making a documentary on suicide on the bridge so were filming every day for a long time waiting for people to jump. It happens there so often that they just had to wait.

  • Pretty sure before he got on the railing the people next to him could have ran over and tackled him before he jumped and got him the help he needed.

  • who filmed it, they knew !!!

  • 4.00 is prob the bit your looking for

  • there were people next to him and they just watched him lean back and fall...they just watched

  • People were just watching?...

  • Stories like this suck. It's very difficult for a person to be happy in this world alot of times. I think its the shit jobs which drive a person to this

  • how did he die by landing on water?

  • @FazeReaper The impact of that length is like landing on concrete. Almost nobody survives...........

  • The people right next to him did nothing! I hope they go to hell!

  • @snakeyes250

Get over yourself. What the hell could they have done? It was about 4 seconds between the time Gene stood up and then about a second later he fell. Could you get over the initial disbelief ("Am I really seeing this?"), run a distance of 15 or so feet in a few seconds, catch the guy by his ankles and hold on successfully or something?

    Didn't think so.

  • fast forward to 4.09

  • if i lived near that bridge i would stand there, everyday just so i could try and save atleast 1 person

  • His family doesn't seem to sad about his death...

I'd bet they're part of the reason he committed suicide.

  • @ToxicImagination

Nope, i don't think the family had anything to do with his suicide.

If you know anything about depression, then you'll understand.

Its like at my grandmother's funeral, my mother wasnt crying, nor was I, nor was my brother. We werent crying or even upset because i knew that there was release in that death. She wasnt happy for about 20 years, not through depression, but through loneliness, and illness.

  • @ToxicImagination I recommend watching the full doc. He only had a mother, and the older lady you saw was his mothers friend, but I believe she saw him as a younger brother.

  • @xxlonleyemoboyxx

Yes, I watched it after this one the other day.

I still just got a feeling like they didn't care too much.

  • I'm not brave enough to commit suicide that way..

The way I've always planned my suicide was just by my old friend the razor blade

  • @ToxicImagination I've had thoughts of killing my self once but Kid Cudi help me, realize that, that's not the way to end it all. I would make my family sad and that's the last thing I want to do.

  • Anaya Hausner Died on my birthday when i was 5 :'(

While me and my family were having a good time, her family was in greif :(

  • I was just thinking, what did kill him?

God Bless from the UK xox

  • I know you think that it's so easy to not commit suicide. But it's not.

When you're depressed, there is nothing but you. Your family doesn't matter. Your friends don't matter. You're trapped in your head. You feel like nothing will ever get better no matter what you do. Even the things that make you happy don't make you happy anymore.

Please don't say that he is selfish, because you can't think about anything but your pain when you're like him.

  • @kparrinello If you can't think about anything but your pain, you are thinking of yourself. If you do anything with disregard for how other people feel, you are being selfish. Suicide is extremely selfish.

It is also very hard to commit suicide. People who hang themselves are found with scratches at their necks, from where they clawed at the noose. I would say that every human has an instinct to survive, no matter how shitty they feel. If they didn't have that, they wouldn't change their mind.

  • To think that he should stay here and deal with his life so your type doesnt feel a little remorse is fucking insane. He should have suffered with mental illness until he dies of natural causes so people like you can be happy? A TRUE loved one will realize it is not their fault and that the indivdual simply wanted to die because they are in pain. it is much more selfish to expect someone to live with the type of pain it ta\kes to be willing to throw yourself off a fucking bridge,.

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT They don't simply want to die. They want to end their own life, and don't care as much about what anyone else thinks. It's not selfish to expect someone to take their family and friends into consideration.

You're trying to turn this around, as though I want people to suffer. No, I want people who might be able to get better to seek help. It is a fact that not enough is known about suicide, and people killing themselves is part of the reason there is a lack of information.

  • wow never thought this would have effected me as much as this did. I heart sank into my chest when he let himself fall..

I would not wish death on anyone and would hope anyone that is considering suicide to stop and think. Life gets rough but you have to just try and move on, I know it might seem impossible but you deserve to live life. All I'm asking you is to just think, someone loves you. Give life a chance xo

  • no matter how bad things are thas always someone there to help,

makes me sad he had family who now are in pain at his decision 2 end it god bless from uk

  • If you can just GET THROUGH THAT DAY, the next day maybe better...Just go one day at a time, hour by hour, minute by minute..Pain will always be there for us, but if we can SURVIVE THE DAY, we may be okay tomorrow.xoxoxoxoxo

  • I would never commit suicide i guess but there are times when i think to myself i would like to get the hell off this planet as at times it feels a great dissapointment. Our society does seem to be breeding isolation and loneliness and it doesn't matter how smart you are or how cool you look or act this society is just isolating people alot and this is the lead cause of suicide. THese big corporations are to blame. Even our school systems isolate kids

  • Is California too thick skulled to put a suicide fence up along the bridge? They're on every high bridge where I'm from, to prevent disturbed minds like these from jumping off them. If this is indeed one of the most popular places to commit suicide, you'd think they would have done this by now to do away with that reputation.

  • @ndpitch That's not the point. You shouldn't have to put of suicide fences on every damn bridge. We just need to help people and prevent. Not ruin nice bridges with stupid fences.

  • @ndpitch

They don't have the money for it (something like 50 million). Besdies that would only stop suicides from the bridge, not suicide in general. Its treating the symptom, not the disease.

  • @ mynameistitus13. Get a straw and suck it the fuck up, if your life is shitty make it better go to college or join the military, there are more solutions than killing yourself, you can either play the cards you were dealt and making something outta it or fold and die with no respect!

  • Seek God and he will answer
