I live in England and am SERIOUSLY interested in building/buying a microhome. Currently in my last year of University, and have about £10,000 for when I finish. I want it to go to something really meaningful, not just frittering it away on rent for a flat. Is there a UK based company that does this? I have no carpentry knowledge... I love her attitude to it - mirrors my own perfectly - and the designs are much nicer than any of the plastic shoeboxes I've seen... Any ideas, YouTubers?
I would love to build myself one. I currently live in a one room apartment 14 X 14 with a separate bathroom and closet that I pay over $330 a month rent plus lights, cable, phone and internet. Doing all this while on disability with a limited income. Just being able to eliminate my rent every month would enable me to do so much more.
No running water and living on borrowed land, not the best way to do it. Look at the video "how to have a house with no house payments" -----------------> Much better example.
@MaliciousSRT in most states any living structure under 400sq feet has to be on a trailer and registered as a recreational trailer, they can not be on a foundation, I got the plan for the video you are talking about and loved it but found out I could not build it in my state.
Put a bunch together and you have a trailer park. Big deal. It's not like she can live just anywhere she wants Call it what you want, she's living in a utility trailer. She has to park it on someone else's property to not get a ticket (friends back yard for now). When the friend gets tired of her, she has to find another friend to mooch off of. She probably can't park it on the street for more than a day without getting a ticket. Her only permanent option would be a lot in a trailer park.
This would be awesome if your'e a teen or in her case probably someone who will be single forever but I'm proud of her i wouldn't be able to do this I'd rather crash on a friend's couch if I was broke as hell
We are planning a tiny house raising early next summer. We do not want a giant mortgage, on limited funds. We have found a piece of property, that we can pay cash for and start a micro farm. Zoning laws are a problem though. Having to find an area that we can use straw bale construction is a real pain.
awesome. i might have it a bit longer for wife and i with 2 dogs. but great way to live. i lived in a tent in the woods for a year and wish i still did.
The government ended homesteading after only 8% of the land was homesteaded... Now they lease and sells whats left to corporations and foreigners... There is the problem. We are being forced into the cities... and having to make do with less...
yo i feel her... im 25 and moved from california to built my 3 rooms 2 car garage 1 den may a 1/4 and acor and wierd or nothing.b ut wen i look at its not me.i need jus a bed room size or a trailor size home for me and i have plans n two yard to finish all my bugeting and start builting my new home
So our culture still looks down on "trailers" so I am going to watch this whole "tiny house" phenom with interest to see how and why it gets a better reception in our culture than "trailers". The crappy economy may also play a factor as more people get pushed into "trailers" and other "alternatives" and thus becomes less a negative stereotype. Next Problem: How to make them energy efficient PER PERSON??
@firemystic76 This website sells the plans to make similar ones: tumbleweedhouses. com/
And there is a man on youtube that says that he made a little house for a college graduate who lives with his parents for around $1200 (but say how). Hope this helps :)
its cool but not that special really when you consider how many people live in house trucks and vans all over the place. And they usaully just get called smelly gyspsys not praised for their low impact. meh
I'm live in WA. I wasn't surprised when they said this freak was from Olympia. She is bitching about housing prices. Well stop voting in liberals who support people with poor credit buying houses.
More power to her. She has done it for all the right reasons (a simpler life and being able to give more money to her family and friends). I would seriously consider living in a place like this in the future.
THIS IS SO AWESOME! I'm so selling my house I just bought. 125000, 1700 sqft and it's TOO big for me. I'm single and I got too much space plus, the 35k gallon pool in the back yard is a pain and a huge money pit not worth it. After I fix it up, get it all nice, sell it for about 25k profit (got a steal on the house) and buy a tiny house just with the profit. Wow... I'd have so much spending money and it would be so simple.
Europian homes are the new wave. Especially when tornados, hurricanes and floods are taking those MACRO MANSIONS and turning them into tooth picks while we can pick up our home and move anywhere we need to. Try that with your house. Awesome Dee.
Most of my life I would have said this was crazy. Now that I am passing middle age, I think this is great. Out of pure curiosity, I would like to know her history. Did she ever have a big house? Did she lose a house. Just curious? Just wondering what direction she came into this from.
I have lived with my wife and son in 144sf and loved it. Indoor plumbing was a goal but not yet a reality. The simple life never gets the credit that it deserves. It is a lot easier to live with less than it looks. I encourage all to give it a try.
My bedroom is 336 sq ft, how the fuck could people live in 84 sq ft, so ridiculous......time to move somewhere else if housing is too expensive there.
@smellex1231 There are many aspects of polygamy that are desirable. 1) Women will fight amongst themselves. 2) Since women are right 100% of the time, there are more people to blame; not just the husband. 3) If you stick them all in these little houses and I live in a huge house that they pay for, we have an amazing arrangment. Obviously I would invent a bullshit church to ordain the marriage as marrying any woman legaly is financial/emotional suicide.
This is what I am working on getting.....just something small and affordable. A big house is nice, but who wants to make the mortgage payments? Not me anyways.
This is truly creditable, appreciable, and a great example of doing what you decide to do, just for simplicity, your values, and your zest to do something you desire - not crib about what you don't have, but GO ahead and do it. I am really in awe of this woman, and I really wish I get a chance to see such a house in real and appreciate her on this. Simply Great.
We usually crib and sob that I don't have what I want, but I learnt today that you can get what you want, if you perceive it.
Sort of thing, it's easier if you're young, free and single. The only problem for her will be when she gets older and may not be as mobile to be able to climb up those steps every night. Great idea though.
The problem of living in a home like this is the toilet and water. But other than that, it's perfect. I'd love to live like that. But a little more room for more than one person.
Oh! I want one of these out in the woods of Montana somewhere! Of course I would need AK47s facing the 4 winds, and malamutes on point in the driveway to make it complete. I am an old woman after all.
this is the life I want to live. I can use the money to travel instead or go paddling with my team. I might get complacent though if maintenance is that cheap.
Really well done. I love the loft. I spent a weekend at Sally's Pacific Star Winery on the ocean bluffs North of Fort Bragg, Ca. Her little cottage is very similar, maybe smaller. You have to try it to find how well small and cozy can be. It was cold and stormy with huge crashing waves nearby but the tiny house was delightfully warm. This small house idea should really catch on...
@VinceKato Maybe better paying job will do the trick? of couse if you work in Mcdonalds and think it as a carrier, i bet you will pay rent or morgage. but in her case she is down right mentally not there
my question is what she does for running water, and where waste water goes. she is very fortunate to be able to live in someones backyard. id love to do this, and could very easily build one myself, but the biggest hurdle is having a place to park it and have water. i had considered setting up a rain harvesting system, thatd be pretty easy, but the geographical location of where to put this new 'house' is the problem. every state has property taxes (which is fucked up). anyone have ideas?
@jw11432 a water hose can be rigged very easily & sewer can be dumped directly into a sewage clean out. this is all legal & if need be tapping into a sewage pipe is not hard you can use very inexpensive materials to remain within code.
@circusboy90210 well sure, a water hose could do the job, assuming youre within range of a supply, like this woman, im sure thats what she does. i suppose she may have a small septic tank, too? how about where to park one of these things if you arent fortunate enough to know someone with land? :)
@jw11432 rv parks have hookups & also you can park in national parks then poop in the woods like a bear. flea markets cost about $250 with water/septic/electricity free
@jw11432 Alaska has no property taxes. Actually, the government pays you about $1000 a year just to live in Alaska. And if you find some place in southern Alaska, the climate is not too bad. The southern parts of Alaska have high levels of rainfall, as well, perfect for water collection.
@DevonWhorton i just looked that up. it appears that it depends on the region; the larger areas, there are in fact property taxes, however, the smaller regions rely upon sales tax for local governmental revenue. pretty cool though, certainly keeping that information close at hand.
Very cool! The bigger the house, the more everything costs. I can see a big house for a large family, but who wants to spend all of their time indoors?
we had a 3000 square foot home. we finished raising the kids and wanted the simple life. we have been full time in our 5Th wheel RV for 4 years now. we control how much we spend or don't spend. no mortgage, homeowner insurance or taxes. we have some luxuries sat TV Internet, etc, but if things go real bad we can live v very cheep. we have a nice spot with modest rent and utilities. it is nice to be in control of our lives and not slaves to society. we live in campgrounds or where ever we want.
It would be wonderful to live like this! It would be like camping all year round. She has everything she needs right there in that tiny space. It goes to show, we really don't need as much as we think we do in order to survive and even thrive happily.
I think this is an incredible story....such a simple life! This women has no bills, imagine feeling so free. I can see that she has a very kind heart and enjoys the life she has built for herself..
The question shouldn't be "why?", but why not? Can you imagine if there is a hurricane or a fire, all she would have to do is attach to the home to an automobile and zoom! She's out of there with all her worldly possessions. Not to mention if she gets bored and wants a change of scenery, hook the car to the house and gone! Luv it!

Awesome. An American ascetic. And Dee is real. Her building skills are extraordinary. Her interior space managment is great. She has to be a believer, if not she is an example of what the Lord's people ought to be doing instead of indulging in materialism to their own hurt.
The Earth is fucking huge. Why do you need a large house when you can travel all around the planet learning new things?

VinceKato 1 year ago
@VinceKato i bet she does, and lack of male attention
bykashka75 1 year ago
@bykashka75 alright, if you wanna pay rent/mortgage ie. pay just to live, because you want a place more spacious go right ahead
VinceKato 1 year ago
@VinceKato Maybe better paying job will do the trick? of couse if you work in Mcdonalds and think it as a carrier, i bet you will pay rent or morgage. but in her case she is down right mentally not there

As long as she's happy that's all that matters.

my question is what she does for running water, and where waste water goes. she is very fortunate to be able to live in someones backyard. id love to do this, and could very easily build one myself, but the biggest hurdle is having a place to park it and have water. i had considered setting up a rain harvesting system, thatd be pretty easy, but the geographical location of where to put this new 'house' is the problem. every state has property taxes (which is fucked up). anyone have ideas?
jw11432 1 year ago
@jw11432 a water hose can be rigged very easily & sewer can be dumped directly into a sewage clean out. this is all legal & if need be tapping into a sewage pipe is not hard you can use very inexpensive materials to remain within code.
circusboy90210 1 year ago
@circusboy90210 well sure, a water hose could do the job, assuming youre within range of a supply, like this woman, im sure thats what she does. i suppose she may have a small septic tank, too? how about where to park one of these things if you arent fortunate enough to know someone with land? :)
jw11432 1 year ago
@jw11432 rv parks have hookups & also you can park in national parks then poop in the woods like a bear. flea markets cost about $250 with water/septic/electricity free
circusboy90210 1 year ago
