@paulhunter123 Well he's still alive - you have to give him that. Bloopers causing fatality of others sometimes result in premature death of the person to blame. The police chief over the Yorkshire Ripper enquiry led the investigation astray by believing a false tape and died 4 years after the ripper was caught. Similarly the Navy Commander in charge of Pearl Harbour on 7 Dec. 1941 didn't live too long after. (But I'm not defending Fish - his performance on that 2007 programme is pretty lame.)
@Artprincess247 Are you joking or are you just stupid? It is IMPOSSIBLE for the UK to get a hurricane. For a start, sea temperatures have to be 27c + for hurricanes to even exist. It was a severe extra-tropical storm, nothing more.
@nickalbion1234567 i may be stupid, but your obviously blind, hello? have you not seen all that damage that storm has done? seriously how can that not be a hurricane? only because it barely happens here doesnt mean its not a hurricane.
@Artprincess247 Look, I'm studying Meteorology & Climate at university. Just because it was very windy doesn't mean it's a hurricane. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the UK to have a hurricane. It may have had hurricane strength winds, but it was not a hurricane. It was a very strong Atlantic depression.
@Artprincess247 first of all, ust because you are studying at university, it doesnt really make you an expert of the weather. and second of all, if it wasnt a hurricane, then why has it been called a hurricane for over 20 years? Exactly, so it IS a hurricane, end of story, goodbye, adios.
Michael Fish was talking about the UK because the woman who rang the BBC was talking about the UK, not Florida. He's trying to get himself off the hook for that blunder. The woman was right, Fish and the Met Office were wrong. Methinks Fish doth protest too much.
@TroyDouglas917 you find a number to call them. there isn't one you imbecile. you can't. it's not his fault, his job is to present what he is told by the met office not to find out himself. he presented it admirably, it was just wrong
@cowplod Wow, so the weather service is a secret organisation with no phone? You're the imbecile if you believe that. Whether she rang them directly or not, the message got through and this woman has been identified. Her son was an amateur weatherman who correctly forecast what Fish and his idiot chums couldn't. And if an amateur at the time could forecast it, so could Fish. And YES, Fish DID monitor forecasts, so he is not blameless. No excuses. Now sitck up that your arse.
Oh, and also, it was a few days earlier of the October '87 storm that I found an old bible in my wardrobe, and for some reason I tore it up. When my Mum found the torn bible in my bin days later, she told me that I had caused the storm because god had seen what I had done! (she isn't a religeous woman, just cruel!!) lol
My Mum and Dad have a farm next to a woodland, with a stream running through. The day of the storm (I was 7), I remember going into the wood with my Mum, looking down to the stream which was a gushing orange river. I tree gave way from it's earth and came crashing towards us. My Mum and I ran, luckily we were unhurt by the tree. It's something I will never forget!
Michael was right to tell us that there was no hurricaine on the way to florida. Stupid us for thinking he was talking about the UK. Probably the map behind him and the fact that his job is to tell us about the UK weather added to our confusion.
