The song comes back to haunt at the end as past meets up w/ the present- you ache as memories & decisions made long ago render heartbreaking pain. Incredible moment. I was a teen during these times. This scene is done so incredibly well. So understated but can make me feel so much -- makes me remember how I felt then, and how I feel now, every year growing more nostalgic for those times. Love and youth and innocence and people lost. This director is brilliant - he captured so much without overdoing it. Even the song (and the lyrics & their meaning) were well-chosen. The acting is brilliant also - so believable. This scene really touched me.

I think you put it very well. Anyone of any age can appreciate the scene- she's truly lovely, he's endearing, & all that. But to have "been them" at that time, & now be going through the recollection of those intense days (I feel it w/ the early 80's, as well) recaptures the poignancy of youth... (Wasted on the young.) Makes you want to go back.

ONE OF THE BEST SCENES FROM ANY MOVIE. IT IS SO DEEPLY TOUCHING. I was a few yrs younger than them in '75 & don't recall this song - it really affected me when I saw it. They are absolutely fabulous in this scene. It made me feel like a teen again - the innocence of their age when one really believed that true love was possible, that if one liked someone they felt the same way and that one could never get hurt. Makes me cry, feel nostalgic and joyful. Beautifully acted and filmed - well done!
