  • Graphics are really good

  • One of the best games!!! I had to cheat to finish it

  • The Beast's fists must be composed of the same material as Batfink's wings.

  • This was really the 'I wanna be the guy' of its day... One of the hardest games ever

  • One thing I hated about this game was that you had to know everything that happens in advance, otherwise you're fucked.

  • Man i am 36 years old now and had to take a peak on this vid use to play it when i was 16, got to love the music, beast 2 was my game this game kicked my ass

    thanks for the upload :)

  • I was 3 years old when I played this game the first time, the Amiga 500 was my best babysitter

to hear this music again, so simple and I synthesized brings back long time.

  • 2:44 I called this guy hermes and was slightly obsessed with his weak showing back in the day.

  • I love me some SOTB, but i gota say.. when you REALLY think about it.. outside of the great puzzles to solve the rest of the game is really not much more than a FANTASTIC visual / musical exploration in gaming. at its core is simply another run punch and climb side scroller and yet its so much more. this would make a great 1st person experience.

  • i got goosebumps at 4 seconds in. the run across the plains to the castle was hands down the best part of the game. i got so good at the plains i could go through almost without breaking stride the whole way (except for pitchfork psrts, the spiked bananas, and the eyeballs)

  • why didnt enter teh castle 2:57

  • i hate those Balls at 1:40 XD

  • ...what's up with the blimps?

  • I think the music is still awesome!

  • Fucking music! I would always boot up the game, head right a little and when that music starts after passing the well I would sit and listen. This game music was so epic when I was a child.

  • that statue at 0:55 was my absolute favourite!

  • Amazing - thanks for sharing this!!!

  • YOU DID PLAY WELL Malphas87 BROTHER. AMIGA WAS AND WILL BE ALWAYS AND FOREVER A SYMBOL OF FIRST GAMERS GENERATIONS,LIKE ME.

  • YOU DID PLAY WELL,BROTHER. AMIGA WILL BE ALWAYS AND FOREVER A SYMBOL OF FIRST GAMERS GENERATIONS,LIKE ME.

  • The Amiga version feels, looks and sounds wonderful! But I prefer the Japanese SEGA Mega Drive version. If anyone hasn't checked it out I think he should do it! =)

  • Is it me, or the gun shots sounds like the rifles from Aliens? This game is so full of win, I was never scared of it as many ppl comments on being scared by it when they were kids. I guess my copy was badly written or something, because I could never get past the door of that castle, the game always hunged up at that point and I was never able to actually finish it.

  • @SaloMaya Haha yeah it's a pulse rifle!

  • SPANNAH!

  • SPANNAH!

  • Concrete statues? Punch 'em!

Incoming axes? Deflect 'em with your fists!

Giant soft eyeballs?! RUN THE FUCK AWAY!

  • fabulous musics. The most difficult game I have ever managed to finish (twice !)

  • the designs are neat on some things and idk wth you're playing but he looks kinda cool but this game looks....very boring.

  • lol, those blue monsters with the arms up in the air are hilarious! the style of art as in games such as this seems to have been lost in recent years :(

or at least I haven't seen it, anyway :(

  • @krononomikon

they always reminded me of Scooby Doo monsters.

  • @SD78 yes... YES!!!

  • @krononomikon Nope it is lost dude as the Golden Era of videogames has been left in the past :(

  • god i love the music in this game, especially in this middle part. i've googled it but to no avail - does anyone know where to find the music for this game?

  • That rifle sound is the sams as in rifles Aliens...

  • I played that game just so that I would be able to listen to the music.

That and the psycedelic, unconventional and fascinating style.

  • 0:35 excellent beat to the music

  • this game is like a Finntroll album brought to life.

  • Notoriously difficult

  • @PhobosTwilight manily because there are no continues.

  • yes, great music !!

  • reminds me of gigers creations...what a game!

  • @TheRosco1982 frightening... I had always thought THE SAME THING since playing this game bck in the 80's and watching Predator! imagine if EA remade this game and, since they can afford him,

hired HR Giger for the art direction and overall design!

  • Yeah I get a giger / dali / hp lovecraft vibe from this game severely.

  • When I was 11-12 years old, this was my favourite game. Played it like a hundred times, and I had become so good at it, I could beat it any time I played (sometimes I would die in the last stage though). I remember it took me always 26-29 minutes to beat. 30 minutes was the standard game duration for me back then.

  • Awesome game but very difficult.

  • Awesome Music xD

  • Looking at the enemies in this game it looks like someone loves modern art.

  • So many gates ^_^

  • this game was soooooo damn wierd.... i still dont understand it until this day... gave me the creeps wen i was younger though

  • oh u SO knew that would happen at 2:40 =P

  • Tough tough game. Awesome music and graphics though.

  • Music starting at 0:05 is simply superb! Reminds of how much I used to love this soundtrack as a kid.

  • Wow i couldn't remember the name of this game i just stumbled onto it. This brings back memories on my old amiga years ago. The music on this game made it what it is today A CLASSIC!!!

  • lol this game really wants you dead

  • No kidding, one of the most ridiculously difficult games I've ever played(every jump and punch had to be perfectly timed - almost no room for error). A save system would've alleviated most complaints though.

  • @destinywings I laughing when I read that. You couldn't be more right\Hit the Nail right on the head, lol!

  • this is some trippy ass shit

  • Great game! Nice memories..

  • I wish this game was a bit harder. It's just way too easy.

  • for you maybe lol

  • i remember this being such a hard game, i used to just play it for the music alone

  • Incredible what the bad guys send after you nowadays ...

  • The following are "Do not wants": 00:47,00:57,01:04,02:21,03:41,04:28,04:39,04:54,

05:24,06:21,07:18,07:29,08:17,08:17. But the game..? Still do want.

  • Man I tooootally fucking forgot he eventually gets a gun! Man I was 7 when this came out, already been.. 21 years :O

  • I love the music that plays when you continue going to the right from the start.

  • god watching this game is like looking at the side of one of those weird boxes of tea you see in haggen, you know with the rediculous fantasy pictures on the side, you know pretty.. but just so damn strange. i wonder if they have an amiga on ebay?

  • I cant beleive how unforgiving games were in the old days. It took pure devotion to complete a game when i was a kid, no saves no difficulty levels you were lucky if you got a continue.

  • Fantastic art design.

  • Stop spamming Fallcon Punch ;p

  • Lol- listen to the laser gun that the character gets later on; they stole the sound effect of the 'Pulse-rifle' from the Aliens film series.

  • This guys well pro

  • very nice music!!! Old times....

  • Listen to that MUSIC! man this takes me wayyyyyyy back!

  • oh man. i remember this game. It is really a hard game to play

  • At 6:42 the Beast thought to himself... "A rickety wooden bridge, giant black widows AND deadly serpents that come out of the ground!?! I'm not sure even I have the balls for this!"

  • Hmm...it could be that i'am wrong, but THIS is the character seemed in 2 and 3...Aarbron was the servant of the Beast, but when he freed he got back something from his humanity...In Beast 2 we can see him as a "wildman"...

The story is a bit weird thats true...in 3 he is human again, and in the end he fight with the beast himself...or am i wrong?

  • Ok your right, but this game is confuse i´ don´t know the history of this game, this beas go for a another world, him got a rifle and one backpack to fly??????In incoherent this game. THE 2 AND THE 3 not have that history and this player.

  • Bad graphics? Bad sound? come on, this game was ground breaking back in 89, this is prolly one of the best games Ive ever played.

  • yea compared to the other stuff at the time it was awesome.

still i wouldn't want to play it today lol:) punch punch punch monotonous! i guess it got by because it was amazing graphics then

  • these graphics, graphics is spelt with a 'PH' not an 'F' you moron, were utterly supurb for 1989.

  • spooky...like a bad acid trip

  • That gun sounds strangely like the pulse rifle from Aliens. Music is top notch though. Best games come from UK

  • Shadow of the beast and Turrican!!! Best gamemusic ever!!!!!!!!

  • That's it, I'm playing it again.

  • One of the very few games that used good contemporary art, the gameplay was the only problem of the game in some parts

  • The whole run to the castle is straight out of a nightmare.

  • spooky....

  • very spooky memories, most Psygnosis games on amiga had that quality

  • The best bit is when you get the laser gun. Better than sex (almost)

  • that big skeletal leg that hops after you is still hilarious

  • Never finished this game even on immortality mode! Beautiful game and memories. Thanks for this vid and post more!

  • memories!!! i never owned the game myself but a friend of mine had it. i used to go round his house to try and play on it but he always made me watch while he played!!! he was useless at it!!! always fucking up!!! awesome game!!!

  • Haha! Exactly same story with me! My friend never let me play.....when he lost he closed down his amiga. It's funny how many memories videogames had left to our generation. When I visit the mountains near his house I still get the sotb "atmosphere". Fantastic game....

  • I beat this game on the Genesis but the Amiga one is much harder. Anyways, I downloaded all of the tracks on Limewire a couple years ago. Castle Music is definetely awesome! XD

  • I loved and hated this game. Beautiful visuals for it's time but ludicrously difficult which was a hallmark for early Psygnosis games like this one. They got better with games like Awesome, Armourgeddon, and Leander.

  • Is it me, or is Psygnosis obsessed with those eyeballs? I have been seing them a good deal of times

  • This game has some weird creatures. :D

  • This game still looks great. Paralex scrolling, that was a big thing back then. Hard as hell game, great memories

  • Some of David Whittaker's best work is in this game.

  • The artwork is fantastic

  • Ahh from the age of hard cash meant progression in unplayable games (talking about the age not sure if this was released in arcade version?). Visuals and music in this game are a delight.

  • The whole game had awesome music right the way through but the music playing in the castle level here was my favorite for sure.

  • I think back then i never really noticed. But this game has a great Soundtrack. Unfortunately it was hard as hell for me, so i never finished it and got frustrated :D

  • This game was way too hard. Easier, more people buy. But look at those 7 levels of paralax scrolling! At the time, NOTHING came close to this. PC's had 256 colors (this game-- 32 or 64) but they could only scroll 3 level paralax at best! Too bad so hard. Amiga, the first super console, relegated to dust because of lack of information and twitchy games-- make the games easier! You always get a larger audience.

  • I agree with everything you said, but the part about the PC having 256 colours, although being true it was not true of 1989 that you would find a PC in the shop running in 256 colours that you could buy, and if you could, you would have had to have been a very very rich man. The Amiga during that time had superior colour, sound, graphic definition & software developers, and also the most passionate community you would ever find.

  • i still play this game and get the same feeling as i first did, i think amiga made games that were hard and it was a feeling of achievement to cross a level,,,,thanx for the video....

  • childhood memories..thanks

  • Loved the hell out of this game! Got the Sega Genesis versions, but they just don't compare to this!

  • This is the reason why i bought an Amiga... CLASSIC

  • Loved this game..

  • Best game on the Amiga...

  • More than anything else it made me want to own an Amiga! Btw, be sure to check out the other two video parts of the recording....

  • @peterssachs must have been a pretty shitty list of games then.
