I speak from what I know and have done in the past.. Kuntaw/Kuntao has been the basis of my training with different Chinese and Filipino instructors over the last 30 yrs.. I don't have a need to prove anything to any of you here.. I do what I have been trained in real world applications and in various parts of the world..  People who have known me for this length of time know what I teach and have students who have used the training in their travels through out the world also..

I no longer teach the filipino kuntaw system that is featured in this video.. I left this organization close to 15 yrs ago due to personal choices and being slandered along with other senior practitioners who have spent considerable time within this organization.. I left due to slander and unadulterated lies about my immediate instructor, myself and other senior practitioners who spent more than 30 yrs in this system without any type of support or communication for more than 20 yrs

Ask Master Frank about the organization as it has developed since the 70s. You will find out that a few of the American instructors were blackballed or left the organization due to being called renegades because we were "allegedly" not supporting the morals and ethics that are hyped on Kuntaw websites that are still "supported" by the organization.People within the organization say one thing about the renegades, but when confronted face to face and asked about the comments, stories change..

Ask Master Frank if he knows the changes that this system has gone through since the 70s. I recommend you find out the situation with some of the senior american instructors who tried and maintain the training that we were taught back in the 70s, but were tossed out of the organization or left because of the organization wasn't standing by the ethics and morals that they have on various Kuntaw websites that are still recognized by the organization. My question is what is the true Kuntaw? History has changed numerous times and even today after 30 plus years of teaching it, I still scratch my head whenever I read anything from newcomers to the art and read their expose on the true form of Kuntaw

Master Frank trained with the founder and all of the famous trainers before they went to america. i am also in contact with the daughter of the founder, who operates his web contacts, and she liked the first kuntaw video we did.

All the famous trainers before they went to america? During what time did he train with the instructors in Pampanga or Tarlac? I know most of the senior instructors who were in the federation and area reps in the Philippines at the time I was studying.. I know the daughter who you are talking about also.. She was young when I last saw them at the old school in Olangapo.. I also have talked to her from time to time and she knows me also..What's your point?

ask any of them about master frank, they know him. i think they were all at Olangapo when the kuntaw temple was still there. my point was that the administration is aware of the videos and teachings and approves of them.

Still, it is too robotic to be true Kuntaw there is no flow. Too bad that Filipinos embrace Japanese arts as being a model.

2nd part of Master Frank's response other styles have thier own standard everyone shall follow a standard for competition. when the bill of law authored by Senator Zuberi shall be declared ARNIS as one of the Phillippine National Sports.

if the standardization of arnis is going to be a competition sport, it will degrade into what we will see as no more than people doing the same drills and applications for competitive purposes.. This will kill the warrior mindset of the FMA and the effectiveness of the different systems as they fight against one another... It will be come nothing more than two people in armor and swinging sticks, no real fighting,just wailing at each other..That will kill the weapon aspect of the eskrima systems

every style of arnis has each differences there has been no standard forms to follow, LAKAS 8 , Larong Arnis Kuntaw Aycocho Silat 8 angles has its own standard forms for students to learn a patern on motion of basic stances blockings disarming and striking.

The abcedario of each arnis system is what makes the system unique to it's practitioner.. From what I see, you have limited knowledge in the Kuntaw systems as you have trained under one instructor only.. It pays to get out and see other interpetition of the system.. Some of the senior practitioners have more than 30 yrs with different instructors within the system.. No need to base your knowledge on one instructor, get out and smell more than one kind of rose.. It will open up your eyes

just want to clarify, i am not claiming to be a good martial artist. but no one can claim that i didnt "get out there' and see many kinds of styles and masters. also in philippines i trained with three other instructors and will post those videos soon.

I have been a kuntao/kuntaw practitioner since the early 70's and have seen the Filipino Kuntaw system go through various changes since then. It was called Maharlika Kuntaw Kungfu in the early 70s when I first started training in. I received my first instructor rank in Maharlika Kuntaw in 1975 and have been teaching in various locations while in the military. I have been an instructor of both Chinese and Filipino Kuntaw/Kuntao for more than 3 decades having trained with instructors of Kuntao

The movements of this kuntaw form is nothing that is taught in the system now.. It is like karate with a stick.. This is an after thought of the kuntaw lima lima that was introduced as a result of an interview done some 10 yrs ago by a publisher of one of the filipino martial arts culture.. The movements are nothing, too rigid and lack of flow in the kuntaw that is being called this today. Check the history line of the system, you will find a shorinryu basis, not filipino Kuntaw/kuntao

This form is nothing more than a karate form with a stick.. too rigid to be classified arnis.. this is another fallacy that is supposed to be kuntaw which should be more flowing and relaxed.. This form looks like it was made up in a few moments of thought.. Nothing worth watching and this is not the kuntaw we were taught 30 yrs ago in the Philippines

It doesnt look like arnis because it is not arnis, it is kuntaw. the form wasnt thought up in two seconds, it is the standard basic form which i have seen in manila, puerto princesa and even hong kong taught by black belt instructors. this is the kuntaw being taught in the federation today.

thanks for posting, very informative. excellent as always. in trinidad we also do stick fighting. it use to be full contact, i think it is mostly only dancing and playing around now.

Barbados also had a stickfighting art(Sticklicking). They used guava branches.
