If someone said constistently racist and hateful things to her she would not only ask but EXPECT her employer to do something about this. The point I was making is that religion is a protected class in this country and religion is a choice. Does it really make sense to believe a straight person saying "its a choice" or even 'converted' gay people saying this? Look no further than the good work of Exodus International to see that yes, thousands have abandoned homosexuality and continue to do so everyday. The American Psychological Association may claim that you cannot "change your sexuality," but it's really a defeatist circular argument -- after all, then how did gays come to call themselves as such in the first place??

@temari412 I don't think gays necessarily feel they have CHOSEN to be gay, but they CAN consciously choose to move out of the "lifestyle". We all make hard choices in many areas of our lives. Religion-crazy parents are different from faith-based parents, just like religion is different from the body of believers who look to God, instead of men, for truth, forgiveness, and salvation. One needn't be a homophobe (denoting fear) to be opposed to seeing someone suffer in a destructive lifestyle.

"It's this new thing" is an American (perhaps English language?) idiomatic expression, to imply that something is obvious and longstanding when someone has clearly missed the point. important.
