  • What if you wanted to record your car at night or day to see if someone is messing around with it. Will it work even if the car is turned off ? battery operated ?

  • video looks great

any dash mounts you checked out and/or recommend

pros/cons of dash vs window mounts

    thanks

  • @kiddyuknot Window mount with suction cup will let go every now and then and drop your camera on the floor. Otherwise it's a better option to get a good high angle.

  • 7:03 FAIL! Blue shirt guy trips

  • where you live is very nice greetings from Germany and thanks for this video

  • Thanks for this awesome video! It costs USD100 in my country. A lot more expensive than in US/Hawaii.

  • theres an option to take the audio off of the device right??

  • 6:41 San Andreas in real life!

  • TeDua............ The Bible says the cross represents what Christ did for us on the cross, we look to the cross as a reminder of what JESUS did for us. It is NOT idolatry......... it is a symbol...... Good Job Frank and God bless!!

  • Thank you for the video,

    Man, I love Hawaii!!!

    Cheers from California!

  • thanks Frank,it was useful, I should have one in about a week or so looking forward to it,and I also have a cross in my cars,thanks from down under { AUSSIE }

  • Esuste un manuale in Italiano

  • Just wanted to say thanks very much for doing this video. I bought one of these cameras off ebay and all of the menus were in Russian so based on you menu browsing I was able to change the language to English. Thanks! Overall I am really pleased with this though. Nice and cheap but does the job well. Can't ask for more than that.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • this is a good product, I buy many of them from china, CHENXING Electronic Limited produce this products.it have many models. this is site: w.ww.chenxing-ele.c.o.m

    their quality is very good!!!

  • Thanks for the review, I got one of these off Amazon (Amazon Prime so I can send it back if it's no good) It seems that there are different versions that look identical. The lower end ones, with really crappy video (motion JPEG) are about $30 but I ordered one similar to yours so I'll have to see how it shoots. I've a video guy so I'm sure it's not going to be really HD and the biggest issue with these cameras is how they handle the brightest and darkest scene. Will try gradient filter .

  • Please, what is i delete the time? Sorry for my english, i am from czech.

  • @wannabemedic umm.. i do not think there is a need you make a trouble with me !! i had a view and the video owner explained to me his point very respectfully and very morally !! i never override peoples freedom!.

  • @TeDuaMalakie Your assertion that it is "idolatry" is questionable - do you have pictures of your family in your home? If so, do you consider those to be "idols"? Neither do we.

  • @wannabemedic i do ! i do have pictures of me too !! but i do not hang them on the wall or set them on tables . not that they are idols but its just for they interfere with our praying . they are just in albums kept in drawers .

  • The Man in blue at 7:04?

  • @TeDuaMalakie Don't be mislead my friend. I hang the cross only to display my faith. I don't look at the cross and pray. Idolatry is defined as worshiping idols and while the cross may be considered an idol I don't worship it directly. It only indicates that I am a child of God as most of us are. Christian, Muslim and many other cultures believe in God. Our views might be slightly different but it doesn't change the overall message. But thanks for posting your opinion, it does matter!

  • @FranksTechHelp thank you ! .

  • @FranksTechHelp Thanks Frank! it was very helpful, I'm about to buy a blackbox cam. and Im impressed about the way you responded to this guy regarding Jesus Christ. Thanks for that message as well.

  • @FranksTechHelp

Hi what is the "up" for? Thanks

  • @FranksTechHelp Well said. He has no right to question your faith. He was being rude and owes you an apology which I know he will not. Maybe I shouldnt judge him like he has done but his intentions were rude.

  • @TeDuaMalakie The cross is in no way idolotry, my friend. The cross is empty, signifying that our Savior has risen!!

And no, I'm not a nutcase, just a faithful Christian. God Bless

  • @TeDuaMalakie I didn't even notice the cross until YOU brought it up - Who cares! Some of us are CHRISTIAN don't hold it against us dude!

  • Thank you for the review, I found this cam on ebay and I always do a full research on merchandise I'm not familiar with. The rise in Road Rage and stupidity on our roads require the use of these surveillance in our vehicles for our protection.

  • @rancox265 I will be releasing a video soon of people who have cut me off in traffic or doing stupid stuff like you said. It's a good piece of mind to have one of these in the car.

  • Hello, when you start yout car, will the unit record even if the LCD is stowed up? Thanks.

  • Hi frank I have this car cam on the way its calling for a 32 gb card tell me what you think about it and can I put a bigger card in it and you did a grate jod on your car cam video thank for taking the time to do what you do well ViewItem&item=270721585648&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:AU:1123

  • @greenthum39 32GB might be the max for your unit but look when it arrives, it might go up to 64GB. I get around 4 hours on an 8GB so you should have a lot of recording time.

  • I saw another review of this camera that said although the unit would start recording when the car ignition is switched on, when the car is switched off, the unit just carries on recording. Can anyone confirm this please?

  • Does the cam make a beep every 15 mins? If yes, can you mute it?

  • @bbmak1125 Mine has never beeped.

  • @FranksTechHelp

Few years ago, I got a crappy cam from ebay. Can you recommend me one.

  • that thing is awesome!!!

lamentably that things are ilegal in my country ='[

  • Hi Frank,

someone is vandalizing my car at night, will this DVR be a suitable solution? since i need to activate the recording from midnight till sunrise...we are talking about 7hrs...and will i be able to run it on the car battery for the whole of those 7hrs.

    Thanks!

  • @saiofy The battery power option will only run for 2 hours, if you hard wire it then it will run for 4 hours with an 8GB card. I would use a 16GB card to be safe for 8 hours. They also make a night vision motion detect model but they aren't as good as they advertise them, however, it might do the trick. I will also send you a link to a product that will work much better if you need motion detect for body heat. It's sure to do the trick!

  • @FranksTechHelp

so a 64GB would run for a pretty long time! ;-)

    any tips on the hard-wiring?

  • @saiofy There are two ways to hard wire. Right to the battery or from your fuse box. If you go direct to the battery the unit might suck all the juice from your battery so that might not be as good but it's the only way to record without the keys in the ignition. The other way is to the fuse box which is about the same as plugging it into the cigarette lighter, not effective for what you want to do. That Dakota unit I sent you the video for would be a good option I think.

  • @saiofy Look at a Kodak Playsport, 10hrs record time with a 32 gig card. Plug in cigarette lighter with a standard mini usp adaptor

  • Hi Frank, just got one of these, but it freezes every 10 mins or so and doesn't start overwriting - any ideas?

  • @Ridley2907 Try formatting the card, if that doesn't work then it could be defective.

  • LOL at 7:04 that old man in the blue shirt got scared for no reason

  • I gave this vid thumbs up just for having CCR on the radio!

  • Thought I'd give you a heads up that there is a new camera out which records in 1080p and has vastly superior image quality. It also has GPS and records time, date, location and speed. There's now US distributor of it now too: DOD-TEC . US. Look at the GS600 camera. It's also smaller, better made and has a superior windscreen mount. I wish I bought that one instead of the DVR007 now. I'll be buying it within the next 2 weeks so I'll let you know my verdict.

  • 2 questions

    1) how long movie can you record on 1GB ? 30min? 1hour? of course in best resolution :)

    2) how long does it works on battery? (how many minutes, hours)

  • @soceq23 I get 4 hours at high resolution on my 8gb card so you should get about 30 mins on a 1gb card. The battery runs for about 2 hours before needing recharge.

  • Hello, I've just bought one, but the battery does not charge, attack when the DVR to the PC LED stays green, is this normal?

  • @DinoAnnese Did you try to charge it using the USB to a computer or while it is in the vehicle. It's a good idea to charge it around 8 hours the first time.

  • Hello, can the video play back right away with its small display? or must take the card out and play in computer? What will be the benefit or end result to record with 2, or 5, or 10 min interval?

  • @ccpyue Yes you can play back the recorded video and audio right on the unit. I think the interval recording just makes it easier to pull clips to your desktop, not sure what the advantage would be. I keep mine set for 10 minutes.

  • @FranksTechHelp

I read in another review of this product that it has a 4-7sec gap when it ends one receording and begins the next, so can miss an entire accident. Can you confirm if this is true or not?

  • that recorded at intervals of seconds? minutes?. (ideal for long journeys, and to record a frame every 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds, etc. and burn all in 1 video file?).

  • @unlocko It will record in segments of 2, 5, 10 minutes and recycles at the end of the storage. If you are taking long trips then you can use up to a 64GB card. The 8GB card I have will record for 4 hours before cycling back to the beginning of the card and recording over itself. The key thing is that if you are using a small card then you can stop recording as soon as something happens and either pull the card and put another card in or just play back the footage.

  • Many thanks for your prompt response. Maybe the drivers can do something? I have the operating system Windows 7 and how to connect the usb to the camera the computer does not recognize the device, met with this problem? wine software or camera?

  • @serurulek The drivers may help but haven't used this device on Win7 yet. Will the device record video at all? You should be able to put the card into an adapter and view the video on your computer. You might also go to Google and type in "K-lite" and install the basic package. This should help with any missing codecs and allow you to view the video. This may not solve the issue with plugging the unit in directly though.

  • @FranksTechHelp

thx for you time im sortetd problem with camera - im send back :))

i share video with you soon :)

  • hello, I bought this great camera and buy a memory card with SD adapter, it looks like MMC memory card if it could affect the operation of the device because of the camera memory card is operating normally and it says "insert memory card" when I put the micro SD Adapter appears August start-up screen and nothing more!? perhaps I need to change the card, what you think my friend?

  • @serurulek I am using a micro sd card with adapter as well in mine and it works fine. It could be the card.

  • What happens when you turn the ignition off? Does the camera stop recording automatically or does it continue for a while on battery power?

I'd actually like it to continue so that it could record in car parks, etc.

  • @Zildjian285

Nevermind, I just read your other reply that it does stop after turning off the engine.

  • very nice great indepth . i have a dvr h26mine8chanel in my car it recoudes 9 different angles around car also connects to the internet .only problin is i would like to get the system to connect to my email if robbed any ideas

  • HI Frank!! Love your indepth videos! About this product, I see theres a couple different SKU or ASIN # numbers on the market for this product!! I take it one its the old version and one is the new?? What number is on the box that you reviewed and is that the same one you sell on your page?

  • @ri805 Don't have the box in front of me at the moment but the one I sell on my page does have the same specs, the main things to look for are 120 Degree Lens, HDMI Output and H.264 video codec, the only thing different is the window mount.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thanks Frank, Im going to your blog page now to buy and the seller name for that DVR is groovy pets right?

  • @ri805 Correct and thanks.

  • How about at higher speeds? Does the sound distort due to wind noise?

  • @LonewolfSaichi The sound is good with windows open and the speed is fine at 30fps.

  • @FranksTechHelp Alright thanks! Nice to have a local to do these reviews.

  • Really a great product review. Had two questions: Do you know what the camera lens angle was on the test camera 70,120 or 140 degrees? Do you have a listing of Sellers on Ebay that carry the test model as shown?

  • @OhioPhotoGuy The lens angel in this video is 120 degrees, the 70 degree is very boxy looking and most people shy away from it cause it limits the viewing angle of the front of the car. There's a link in my description where you can buy from my amazon store and the specs match but if you prefer I can send the link to the ebay seller where i bought this exact model, although it's more expensive. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Hi frank, thanks for this fantastic review. Can you tell me if this unit will record video when the car is shut off? I'm interested in using to monitor activity around the car when it's not in motion. If so for how long will it run before shutting off?

  • @csmith31 You can record when the car power is off, using battery power, but when you turn the car off you have to hit the power button and start recording manually, the camera shuts off when you turn the car off.

  • Frank: Thank You very much for your online help/review of this DVR recorder.

  • @G1ngerGod I use an 8GB cards and it cycles every 4 hours so 16GB would run for 8 hours at max resolution. Hope this helps.

  • This is just what I'm looking for. Are you able to point me in the right direction for one of these units? Thanks buddy. Nice review!

  • @keepingthememories There is a link in my description to my amazon store for this item, if you can't buy through amazon then let me know and I will send you a link to the ebay seller where I bought mine.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thank you for the reply mate. I've just sent you a message VIA your inbox.

  • Frank, I am a little confused. You link to your site to buy this but the one listed there is obviously a different model. The suction cup is different and I noticed the text above the buttons is black while the one in your review is white.

I notice as others have that there are a ton of these things out there. Most are cheapo China knockoffs. Can you give an exact brand and model number of this one? And a place to buy it since the one on your site is NOT the same one?

    Thanks!

  • @sublimationman Hey thanks for pointing that out. The one listed has a different mount but the specs are the same. The main thing to look for is 120 degree lens and HDMI output, and H.264 recording format. You are right about all of the knocks-offs, it's hard to keep up with so many sellers on ebay, the one listed on my amazon store has the correct specs though. Let me know if you have any questions I am here for ya!

  • hello frank, great review. I was actually looking on ebay for this model , but there are now hundreds of different sellers. I found one for 67$ can you point me to your seller?

  • @ah11980 The $67 model is probably crap, a lot of people report buying the cheap ones and regretting it cause they simply don't work. I posted a link in the description to my amazon store where you can buy this now. It's the good model and runs around $100 let me know if you need any help or have questions.

  • @FranksTechHelp cool no problem, when i receive mine ill give you all the details and post a a vid so we can compare the differences for the same models and their clones. great channel ;o)

  • @ah11980 Good deal, will be looking forward to see what you come up with, these are getting very popular. It's a must have these days with so many crazy drivers out there. Can't tell you how many times in the past I have said, Wish I had a camera to catch that idiot! A great piece of mind to have!

  • Hi mate. Will be appreciated if you could gimme a link where to buy. cheers

  • @lislovelybear Done deal, thanks for checking out my videos!

  • Great review.I found it very helpful. My only criticism was when you switched the lighting feature after/at the turn near the end of the on road test. By changing (turning down new road) the road, you may not have realized the subtle change in shading and sun. This made the comparison of the two light modes difficult to differentiate. I'm picky, sorry. Also thanks for the night version, very important to me. Great job!

  • Hi Frank . Just to let everyone know I purchased the HD DRV with six infrareds from dashcam.co. All the pieces were with the unit but when I go to turn it on all I get is the welcome screen for 54 seconds then blank. I've been trying to get ahold of Dashcam.com about this but no answer in the last few days. Be careful who you buy from. I was told this was a good supplier but seems I wasn't given the correct information. Any idea where I can go for trustworthy equipment?

  • @riversmyst5959 Many people have asked me this very question lately as there are a lot of companies now selling these as junk units. I will send you a message with a link for a good seller. Sorry to hear about your troubles but the market has suddenly been flooded with many bad units. The IR version seems to be the worst offender of all.

  • Nice. I got a great blackbox/ dashcam at GPSskytracker.

  • Hi Frank, I Recently purchased an HD 720P DVR for my car on ebay thinking it would come with an LCD flip screen as it fully displayed the screen in photos. It never and I know I may have been duped but was wondering if you know if there are universal screens out there that I could hook onto the multifunctional mount that is on the camera? it would be nice to actually view while driving .Thanks, Nancy.

  • @nellster56 If the unit you bought has a video out jack then you could hook it up to a car monitor with an RCA video input jack. I would send it back and get your money back if they duped you, that's not fair at all!

  • @FranksTechHelp,

No it just has TV OUT,GPS OUT, AND DVD OUT.. Guess I will try to send it back,, I'm not to educated with these sort of electronics so it is my fault for not making sure before I purchased this, but I went by what I seen in the ebay ad,, thanks for your help. Nancy.

  • @nellster56 No problem, there are some shady seller on ebay and a lot are from China, they know how hard it is and how long it takes to send stuff back so they often mislead people to buy things that aren't advertised properly. Hope you get it worked out.

  • Filesize for 720p and 480p is the same because the camera is not real HD, it's just upscale =(

  • @oscarrr6 This is true and a good point to make, wish it was true HD but there are some true HD models on ebay as I see now.

  • GREAT review man! Could you recommend a source I can buy it kinda cheap? Thank you! :)

  • @Arraxis Sending you a link to where i bought this.

  • I would also like to know, where to buy it... Could you send me the link?

    Thanks a lot.

  • @honzakocian Sending you a link now.

  • Hi Frank, have you had a chance to test the camera at night driving? Thanks.

  • @2001ninja I don't have any footage on hand but will unpack it and try to shoot some soon. I recently moved and stuff is still packed up.

  • No frank I did not get the info yet but I just gotta have one of these :)

  • @rgoodpa1 Okay just sent you the link, thanks for getting in touch on this.

  • @harrisg50 Thanks so much for the kind words. I work hard to bring you guys lots of gadgets so it means a lot to hear you say that. I also sent you a link to the seller where I got mine, thanks for getting in touch. Hope this helps!

  • There are too many ebay sellers selling the "looks like this one" camera. Could you tell me which seller is selling the true one or any other online store selling them?

  • @2001ninja Sending you a link to the seller i bought mine from.

  • Can you also send me the seller info please?

Thanks for a great clip. That sold me.

  • @rgoodpa1 Did I send you the link already? I've had a ton of requests and can't remember. Just let me know...

  • @FranksTechHelp

    No link so far Frank

  • @rgoodpa1 Okay it's on its way my friend.

  • @FranksTechHelp could you send me the link too? please!

  • @brytsydsd Okay doing it right now.

  • What a great wide shot and nice and clear at 720p. Very impressed, thanks for uploading.

  • any video of the software of the camera on PC ?

  • @01worldguy01 Not at the moment, but I usually just pop the card into my PC or Mac and transfer the files to the desktop. I've never had to use any drivers but you might need to download the k-lite codec pack for the PC, if you Google "K-Lite" you can download it for free, but you only need to do this if the videos don't play on the PC, hope this helps.

  • This clip is from the old model without IR. There's a new model available on ebay (DVR 027). It has 6 IR which is supposed to film in very low light. Will it record in complete darkness.

  • @zean0912 One of my viewers says that the IR model doesn't do that well in darkness so not sure how good this is, will try to do some testing when I get my hands on one. Thanks for posting.

  • @zean0912 Lookup the video with title "Night drive with the DVR-037". Not very convincing to go with IR version.

  • Wow, I could have really used this last November when I was in an accident. I didnt have my phone with me or anything. I have no proof that the other driver was at fault for the accident and now she's lying about the situation. This would have been a really great invesment.

  • Thanks.. I am looking at this for our Fire Trucks. Your review is very helpful. I have seen this unit used by a fire Department and was pretty sold. To see you using it I am convinenced that it is simple enough for any on eto use.. the Auto on is a big plus. Thanks for you review...

  • @paladinchief Thanks for the kind words, I think this would be prime for your fire trucks, especially the auto on feature. Great use for this item!

  • Thanx 4 review, i'm thinking to get the same camera, it's nice to see the quality before you buy it :)

  • @Roman007M Thanks for the kind words, that's actually why I created this channel. I kept buying stuff and could not find videos for the product so decided to start shooting every product I get my hands on. But I like this unit a lot and it's a good piece of mind to have on the road.

  • How much did you pay for it?

  • @pashka0843 I paid $150 for the nice one, but the price has come down some since then to around $135

  • Also, my setting screen is totally different than yours, it don't have a feature to format the card. version is V 1004210, I kind of worry that I've got a copy or something like that.

  • @kawaihui There are a few different makers and os for this unit. Test it out and see how it works, mine lacks features because it is older but H264 codec so pretty good.

  • I've got the item today. I wonder, does it automatic turn off when I pull out the key? It looks like I have to push the button to turn it off in order to have it recorded. or maybe I've got a DOA?

  • Hi Frank, I got one of these and I am pretty pleased with it so far, but the one thing I am struggling with is editing the video .

Windows Media Player plays the them fine, but everything I've tried to edit (trim) the video with fails, mostly by producing a clip that has sound but no video. I've tried Windows Movie Maker, Ulead Video Studio 9 & 10, VitualDub and a few freeware programs, what did you edit with? Any suggestions for a freeware solution? I just want trim some of the clips.

  • @jethou1 Got your back man, go to google and search for "K-lite Codec" download the standard free pack and install it. Your video should play and edit fine after that. I am using a Mac and Final Cut but for the PC and Windows you will need the K-lite codec pack. Let me know how it goes man...

  • @FranksTechHelp

Thanks Frank, I am still having some issues, but after downloading the codecs you suggested I can convert the file (but not trim it) with "VitualDub", then trim it "SolveigMM" which procuces 1Gb per minute AVI files, then convet to small WMV file with "WinXFree AVI to WMV". Trying to do this in any one program reslts in various quality and size issues, but at least I have a way round it! Thanks for your advice,

I have just uploaded 2 videos.

  • @jethou1 That's odd that it won't let you edit for time. You might try Adobe Premiere and see if that works better, some programs won't allow trimming but it could have to do with the codec of the video itself, let me know if you figure out a solution and I will look on this end as well. I know some people use Ulead Studio which works pretty good and a lot cheaper.

  • "HD 1280x720 = 4:17:53

    WVGA 840x480 = 3:26:21

VGA 640x480 = 4:17:53 (strange how the HD & VGA have same record capacity)"

Thats probably because the 480p is interlaced/60fps.

  • @HazakyProductions I think you are correct about the Interlaced part. I also thought it was odd how that worked out.

  • Frank....Thank You for Making this Video!!!! I just ordered mine from Firecam

I was Wondering if it will record video with the screen closed?

also....which setting is the best quality

    Todd

  • @7089540230 Yes it will record with screen closed and set it to high quality for best picture.

  • @7089540230 I just received my DVR but its not automatically coming on when i start the car. It just stays on 24/7 or I have to turn it off manual. Any suggestions.

  • @spykeeable If the unit doesn't power on automatically when you turn the car power on it sounds like you may have a blown fuse either in your cigarette lighter (car fusebox) or in the head plug for the DVR, unscrew the cap and check the fuse inside the power plug. It should turn on and off automatically. It could be a setting in the menu system if it's a newer model. Let me know...

  • I just ordered one as my Christmas gift, I wonder how long can a 8GB SDHC card can record?

  • @kawaihui I have an 8GB in mine also, I think it records between 6-8 hours before recycling. Haven't full tested for time.

  • @FranksTechHelp

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking maybe 1 or 2 hours; 4-5 hours will be pretty much enough for me, I guess I'll use my 8GB for the recorder. BTW, nice review and keep up the good work :)

  • can you tell me what brand and model and how much it cost? is it made in china? cuz i just look through ebay, there is a cheap and exspensive one but there all look the same.

  • @kingphet123 The brand pinecom but make sure the one you buy says 120 or 140 Degree Lens, the cheap ones have only 70 Degree lens which is not as good.

  • Oh, nvm. Found that its 2hrs charge time, 2hrs record time in your blog description. thanks.

  • Great vid! Btw, how long does the battery last after a full charge? I don't intend to use the DC charger.
