  • Magnets should not bend mask inside the tube, but they will magnetize it, so electron beams will deviate and the picture will be ruined. If magnet was really strong (like neodymium), built-in degauss function wont help, only strong fading AC magnetic field.

  • theres an option on all those crt monitors to degauss the monitor back to a normal state. what this does is that it refreshes the monitor really hard to get any exposure to a magnet off.

  • I did it in a TV

    xD

  • This video should have been titled "How to ruin a CRT screen permanently" This is a very stupid thing for anyone to do unless its an old monitor they're planning on throwing out because this will cause permanent damage to the screen and the degauss feature will not reverse this in most cases.

  • Does it damage the new lcd screens?

  • Pretty lights... :)

  • Its easier to convert a flat square CRT monitor into a LCD, just by opening a little space in the wall of your room with a strong hammer. Be careful with the electrical wires and water pipes LOL!

  • So, can this damage CRT screen?!

  • From what I hear, a strong enough magnet canpermanently bend the iron mask behind the screen.

  • I found that fans put out a faily large ac field and it works well for degaussing.

  • will his computer is destroyed! :)

  • thanks it worked phew!

  • vote for a compiz plugin, you Linux geeks! :)

  • did it to my tv how do i fix it plz help

  • @DanielDaniel1 Well, if you did it to a CRT computer monitor, you would be fine, because CRTs have a built-in degausser. But TVs dont/ your fucked.

  • lolol my "not so" friend joseph did that do a school computor he killed it lol theres a green mark in the screen "teacher went boom boom"

  • I've magnetized my old CRT television and it left it with block spots on the bottom corners ;)

  • now do it to your hard drive

  • LOL! xD

  • thats is s fucking cool.

  • lol yall are funny. the x ray tube is not going to explode and this shouldn't kill your monitor either, electrons that hit the screen in the tube are guided by electromagnetic waves. when you put magnets there, you just knock them of course. and to nejra, i hope you were just joking about the HDTV. o_o also, for anyone who has done this and now the colors are funny on their monitor, just degauss it, it should be in the menu of your monitor.

  • Some older monitors don't have that. Then what do you do?

  • You have to use a string of magnets and form a ring, this bonds all the electrons and leaves the tube alone =p

  • actually,a ring of magnets wont do it, you could use a couple big magnets and a drill. attach them to the end, and spin them while slowly pulling away from the screen in a circular motion.

  • Or that XD

  • well, if you know what you're doing, you can get a degausser, usually available at an electronics store, like Fry's, and do the same thing, move it back slowly in circles.

  • you going make that X-Ray Tube explode

  • People at my school do that with regular magnets to the old crt monitors.

  • any magnet will do

  • Eh, CRT's are cheap nowadays... I do it sometimes though =P. and I have a video too.

  • i think this should be featured since stuf like this always is.

  • I heard, the monitor is OK. I haven't seen it turned on after that but the exposure was not too long. But don't do it with your own monitor anyway.

  • man that must be dead right now. Ive had a crt die from unsheilded speakers next to it before, let alone a neodymium on it.

  • Sorry, works only on CRT. I guess it bends the iron mask behind the glass.

  • Wow niiiice, I'm going to try this on my brand new HD tv.
