A great song by a wonderful singer. Thanks for posting this. She was still singing in her later years and still sounded great. We lost her way too soon.
Mitch Miller, Columbia's A&R head during the '50s, had a knack for taking songs originally recorded by country artists (which became big hits on Country & Western charts), and "urbanize" them for artists like Rosie and Tony Bennett [he covered Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart", making that one of his first big hits]. Clooney recorded this in September 1951, and it became a big hit for her in the spring of '52.
@fromthesidelines Of Hank Williams tunes, Bennett did "Cold Cold Heart", Rosie Clooney did "Half As Much" (which was recorded by Hank but written by Curley Williams), Jo Stafford did "Jambalaya" (Hank's version also crossed onto the Pop charts), and she and Frankie Laine joined for "Hey Good Lookin'". On MGM, Joni James did "Your Cheatin' Heart" and Tommy Edwards did "You Win Again". Much later, B.J. Thomas had a hit with another of Hank's tunes, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"..
A classic song like the lady herself who had few peers

@fromthesidelines Joni James, who recorded for MGM, also did some "pop" versions of country songs.
