This video is only correct if the person demonstrating the technique is in the southern hemisphere.

If you are in the northern hemisphere you need to look in the opposite direction. In other words: in the northern hemisphere, dead center between the hour hand and 12 o' clock is SOUTH.

Thanks for your comment. I've lived both above and below the equator. I also learned in a college astronomy class that this trick depends on which side of the equator you live.

Furthermore, when I was in the military I trained on maps/compasses quite frequently as part of my job. We were taught the same thing... that the method is different depending on whether you're in the northern or the southern hemisphere.

That's just how it works. Sorry. I didn't create the universe. =)

what I was trying to say: Exactly on the equator, you're neither on the Northern nor the Southern hemisphere (or maybe , you're BOTH on the N/S hemisphere), so which of the two rules applies?
