these hoops are all strung together with fishing line - its a VERY common gimmick used in almost every circus including Cirque du Soliel.

@DizzyHips if you are talking about alegria than you are very wrong. weather is Elena or Masha they are not strung together. its the artist's talent doing that not a string. you can tell because both of them there's a part were they throw the hoops one by one, proving that they are not strung together. If circuses like this its debatable becuase the circus (to me) does look rather cheep, but cirque du soleil? I don't tihnk so

@QualacosaDay Yes, Alegria and every other Circque du Soliel show, I have seen them from the front row. I have even examined the hoops back stage at that show. You can even see it in the video. for the grand finale ALL HOOPS ARE STRUNG TOGETHER. The acts are brilliant in almost every way, truely amazing talent, but strung together hoops are a cheap gimmick in my opinion. yes, there is a point wehre hoops are throw on one at a time, but those hoops are switched for a strung hoop at the end.

But i guess to really get that slinky effect they kinda have to be strung. it is cheap though and if i did hula hoop manipulation i personly wouldn't do the slinky thing if they had to be strung,it just wouldn't feel right. But Elena is very talent even with the strung hoops and i don't think Masha does the slinky thing,i thought she did but im not sure

@QualacosaDay YES, EVERY SINGLE Surque du soliel hoop act, including Alegria uses hoop sets. I have been back stage and seen the hoop sets myself, but if you know what to look for its easy to spot from the audience.

@katierosecohen Yes, they are all strung together. These strung hoop sets are very common. Almost every circus uses them , even cirque du soliel- in fact there not a single hoop act in Cirque that does not use them. I have been teaching circus hooping for over ten years. I try to encourage people to take the time to actually learn, but they often choose the strung hoop sets because they are easy and a quick way to get a grand finally. its cheap and sad.

@katierosecohen Just pause it at the beginning when she makes the slinky over her head. You can see all the fishing line shining in the light. Anyway, this is a very common gimmick and easy to spot. I am sure you are a wonderful hooper but you'd have to have circus experience to be familiar with these strung hoop sets. Jin Lin used a set to fool Guinness-got a record for most hoops -106-with a strung hoop set. she stole it from a girl who had the record legitimately. I have the record now- 136

hey there! DancingD1 is right, the hoops are sticked together, even the ones of Irina Roubleva. This trick works only that way when there is a string holding each hoop in the same distance to the next one. You can spin many hoops without connection as well, but then you don't get this clear shape.
