what a weird little nintendo thing. How do you get the thing to play chords?

you have 8 chords preset, and you use the d-pad to shift between the first set of 4. to access the second set, i think you hold the L button. you just press a direction on the d-pad to change the chord. It says which ones you have set on the top screen.
