  • 383 Tbi Vs 454 Tbi.. What would you reccomend? Going into a K5

  • I have a big block and it doesnt matter if i am just driving it or towing a 8,000 pound trailer it always gets 11 to the gallon haha. Fuck el nino

  • should have done chevy orange instead of black but still looks great

  • Did you overhaul it? or was it a performance rebuild?

  • You show this in 3min what was the total time to do the rebuild?

  • Nice job!!! Do you know the the HP on a fac 454?? I have 1 in my 77 1 ton.

  • a 454 bored out .20 over is a 468, right? I've always preferred to bore my older engines out a little, just cause of cylinder warping, but I've heard if you go too far, it can make your block more likely to crack when water hits it.

  • @GrimSkraper No Boreing it .60 over is a 468 and its as fars as you can bore it out! If your worried about bore it out then go get a merlin block which is thinker anyway so you still have plenty of metal and you can bore it out too .60 over.

  • What kind of mileage does a 454 get? AND do you know if a 454 will go into an 1989 Chevy K2500 with 4WD to replace the 5.7 Liter V8? By the way. VERY COOL Vid!

  • Thanks,

Yes, a big block will fit and the bolt pattern should match the transmission. towing or not we would get around 10-12 mpg.

  • is this on the highway? cause... the LS7/LSX get around 25-28mpg on highway.

  • @InitialDirt This is nowhere NEAR the same engine as an LS7.

  • @rivbro91 Actually this is more engine than an LS7. An LS7 is only a 427 cu in. and of course this is 454 cu in. But that doesnt really mean shit. It comes down to the heads, the compression ratios and lots more other shit too.

  • @TRILLGATES2K6 the LS7 was a 454cu.in. It had very similar specifications to a 2nd design L88 (427) except for the nominal 4" stroke and the externally balanced crank - as opposed to all other BBCs, that were using internally balanced cranks and nominally 3.766" of stroke, at the time of the LS7 was introduced (1970).

  • @TRILLGATES2K6 Oops I didn't see you were talking Lsx-type Ls7... That is a totally different engine with modern intake ports, modern twin swirl combustion chambers, individual ignition coils, cranktriggered ignition on several spots (4?) and a hydraulic roller cam with hydraulically self-adjusting timing... if I'm not misstaken? They're 40 years apart in technology AND politics - and it shows.

  • @InitialDirt this isnt even an ls engine, it doesnt have the same compression or anything, do you know anything about these? and who the fuck cares about mileage in a big block anyway, if your worried about mileage then go get a pansie ass lil 4 cyl

  • didn't have a decent video camera at the time :(

  • @Microillusions Thinkyou can do it again if you ever rebuild another? but have it recorded.

  • hahahah..i thought u were gonna put this in ur truck!!!

  • Nah, The 454 was rebuilt before i had a truck. Although that 454 would have enough power to move my truck along nicely.

  • O..ya!

  • I love 454s. I still want to own a 454 SS but with a vortec 454 inplace instead of the tbi version

Do you still have your 6.5?

I recently added a smoke stack to mine. Check it out!

  • Hey John, love your truck & stacked exauhst, sounds great.

Yeah i agree, i'd much rather have Vortec than TBI.

Yes, i still have my 6.5L, I'd love to put a stack on it, but for now i think i'll pull the cat and muffler out. It's getting cold here so im not sure when i'll get to that.

  • The Vortec engine is just a lot stronger vs the original engine in the SS

    290 VS 230 HP and 410 torque VS 380

and definatly get stack(s) when you have the chance and make a vid. More 6.5's need stacks =)

  • how long does a project like that take if you don't run into any snags?

  • I think the average mechanically inclined person could easily spend a summer on a project like this. This particular project took around 6 months. We began pulling the engine in the fall, Since the vehicle was outside. We spent much of the time in freezing weather. Their was no hurry, so Some days we worked on it, and other days we didn't.

  • working in the cold is the worst especially if you accidently wack your hand.

damned T.V. shows make it look so easy

  • hehehe, yeah no kidding
