@sambudwiser I'm not a Wings fan. And yes, Crosby is a dominant offensive force, no question. But, he doesn't have the shut-down responsibilities that Datsyuk has. Crosby is counted on to score and Staal will take the tough checking assignments. Pavel has to do both, so that limits his scoring. He is on par, if not better than Sid at dangling, but Sid does have the edge in puck control because he is a bigger body than Dats.
@danblaze83 i agree, and people forget datsyuk plays 3-4 minutes less a game. Do that math, and Datsyuk is our Art Ross winner almost every year with the same ice time

Datsyuk has the best hands in the NHL and is the best defensive forward in the game. He would have won the Selke again if it wasn't for his injuries this year. Crosby is better offensively but Datsyuk is better defensively. Crosby is good on defense and Datsyuk is still great as an offensive player.

@Sinco1967 You don't understand. Datsyuk plays defense which causes him not to get as many points. For example, I will use Steve Yzerman who had a 155 point season in 88-89. When Scotty Bowman became coach, he told Yzerman he had to play more defense. His last 100 point season was 92-93 and Bowman became coach in the 93-94 season. Datsyuk chose to play that kind of game and he could easily put up 130 point seasons if he sacrificed his defense. You would understand if you watched him every game.

In a year where Datsyuk played 81 games, Datsyuk went plus 34. That was 2008-2009. In the 2009-2010 season, Crosby played 81 games. He went plus 15. Do you understand how amazing it is that Datsyuk got back to back 97 point seasons and won the Selke both years? Crosby is great but Datsyuk is a more complete player

As I said earlier, Steve Yzerman had a 155 point season but never reached 100 points again when he was told to focus more on defense. Datsyuk would easily put up 120 points if he focused on his offense instead of defense. If there was a way to measure how many goals he prevented and add his goals to that he would be miles ahead of Crosby because Crosby can't play defense.

His ability to control, pass, and skate is incredible. Dats is good but he's weaker in every area compared to crosby except defense and dekes(crosby still has better puck control). @sambudwiser I'm not a Wings fan. And yes, Crosby is a dominant offensive force, no question. But, he doesn't have the shut-down responsibilities that Datsyuk has. Crosby is counted on to score and Staal will take the tough checking assignments. Pavel has to do both, so that limits his scoring. He is on par, if not better than Sid at dangling, but Sid does have the edge in puck control because he is a bigger body than Dats.

Did you know Crosby is one of the best passers in the league? 63 assists as an 18 year old. 84 assists as a 19 year old. 48 assists in 53 games as a 20 year old. 70 assists as a 21 year old. By the way, Datstyuk has never hit 70 assists. Crosby has 357 assists in 412 games. So He can fuckin pass. Thanks for trying.

Datsyuk makes Crosby looklike the chump he is . I would take dats over cindy any day. Just cause you get the publicity doesn't make you the best. Look at Lidstrom probably the best player in the nhl over the past 12-14 years how much do you hear about him? Cindy is just another goal scoring cry baby like his pal lepieux. So if anyone is THE man that knows the most of NHL it would be him. I've always had respect for that guy. So many years and he still got what it takes. @Sinco1967 Offensive stats aren't the only measurement of skill. Datsyuk sacrifices his offense for defense much like Steve Yzerman did. Datsyuk has the best hands in the NHL and is the best defensive forward in the game. He would have won the Selke again if it wasn't for his injuries this year. Crosby is better offensively but Datsyuk is better defensively. Crosby is good on defense and Datsyuk is still great as an offensive player.

@Sinco1967 You don't understand. Datsyuk plays defense which causes him not to get as many points. For example, I will use Steve Yzerman who had a 155 point season in 88-89. When Scotty Bowman became coach, he told Yzerman he had to play more defense. His last 100 point season was 92-93 and Bowman became coach in the 93-94 season. Datsyuk chose to play that kind of game and he could easily put up 130 point seasons if he sacrificed his defense. You would understand if you watched him every game.

@Sinco1967 you cant compare Crosby and Datsyuk, totally different player, Crosby have more vision and pass style of play, Datsyuk is the perfect end-to-end player, will be dominant in both offense and defense, and is also more physical, and they both play on VERY different team, pittsburg is a powerhouse of offense, detroit is a more balance team, good offense, good defense. and yes I am 110% sure Datsuyk could easely take up to 120 point+ if he would play the same style as let say Pavel Bure

@stef10203 Crosby just finished leading his team in scoring by 16 points despite only playing 41 games. Which is an NHL record. The Penguins are anything but stacked offensively. Crosby had 66 points in 41 game the next highest scorer had 50 points. Thats embarassing.

Datsyuk plays 4 less minutes a game compared to crosby, 46th in the league when it comes to minutes played, and is still a top 5 scorer when he is healthy. Datsyuk is also a 3 time selke winner. I'd even take zetterberg over crosby, Zetterberg always makes Crosby look stupid. 1 goal (empty net) by crosby in the 7 game finals series in 09... pretty clutch. Thats Z's unbelievable defense.

@footballstud1408 Listen Crosby is 23 and is close to eclipsing there Career numbers. He was on pace for 130+ points playing with laughable linemates. Datsyuk and Zetterberg can't even dream of hitting 130 points. Crosby is a much better goal scorer than both of them. Crosby is also a much better passer. Datsyuk's career high in assists is 66 which is very good. Crosby had 84 assists when he was 19 years old which is just a totally different level than Datsyuk. Gretzky had 86 assists at 19....

If you do the math, with datsyuk getting crosbys ice time their statistics are equal at best for crosby. Datsyuk is a much more complete player than crosby... and Crosby has been center and the heart and soul of the penguins since he was drafted, Datsyuk and Zetterberg have never been needed like crosby, so no shit they wont have the same career numbers.

Take for example the Olympics, crybaby was surrounded by great players and what happened??? He Sucked!!! In a year where Datsyuk played 81 games, Datsyuk went plus 34. That was 2008-2009. In the 2009-2010 season, Crosby played 81 games. He went plus 15. Do you understand how amazing it is that Datsyuk got back to back 97 point seasons and won the Selke both years? Crosby is great but Datsyuk is a more complete player

As I said earlier, Steve Yzerman had a 155 point season but never reached 100 points again when he was told to focus more on defense. Datsyuk would easily put up 120 points if he focused on his offense instead of defense. If there was a way to measure how many goals he prevented and add his goals to that he would be miles ahead of Crosby because Crosby can't play defense.

And this past year he missed 1/3 of the year?So no shit he wont sniff that. He was on pace for 100 before he got hurt in december... oh and he is still a much better DEFENSIVE player, which you like to ignore completely. And you also ignore the major ice time difference.3-4 minutes a game makes a huge difference. Datsyuk is still top 5 scorer inspite that.

Here's something too, in the years that both have played 70+ games, Crosby always averages more shots per game than Datsyuk.
