my xbox and arcade stick are stick boxed - waiting for my birthday in two weeks, i havnt played ssf4ae since my old xbox died 2months ago...i cant take it anymore!!
I'm a pad Gen player. :). You gotta put a lot of time into it. I'm getting used to doing his Hands and EX Hands combos almost 100% of the time. Sometimes, I may get the wrong hands, such as an EX instead of a normal variation. If that happens, I just follow up with another normal into Hands. lol
Um, hi. I was wondering if trying to play Gen on a cotroller is a good idea. And I'm not using the retarded grip for if you're using the controller like a stick either. I'm using like if I were to play an FPS. I was wondering if i can get some tips.
@MrVickdude I'm not the one to ask about using Gen on a controller. I'm terrible with him on it. Check out Rhyllislive and ask him. He is a pad gen. Good luck.
@MrVickdude Gen on pad is very much viable, the thing with Gen is you have to adapt your own style as a pad player, I play only pad and my initial playstyle was using only gekiro, then after a while I added the wall jump and after a while I added the roll, finally adapted to the hands a while ago, so now am grounded in using gen for the most part. I'm thinking of making a Gen tutorial series focusing on pad players.
Thanks man. Nice video (again) Sometimes I gotta look up this video and watch it to remind me that Gen is awesome. Sometimes I think its useless but i think is because I have a 360 remote. Not a Fighting Stick. Any recommendation for 360 remote? can somebody show me a easier way to do piano hand to s.MK?
Man, when I'm able to change to a stick I want to learn Gen. I understand that he's a frustrating character to play, but that I like how much thought goes into playing him that I don't care! :D
Cool video but you're forgetting one major thing. Gen has to land the hit and in the current setup on the game that rarely happens hehe. Very good quality production though.
Aw shit, never noticed that you thanked me Kiryu! Thanks! This video is spectacular, and probably one of the best character tutorials I've seen for any game.
This is awesome!! I've been looking for real tutorials for GEN, but dude, I never expected find the finest tutorial ever. Thanks a lot man, though Im having problems with the very last combo, after the reset I cant make the ultra :S
@shadowsneak3434 Okay so the last combo, when you reset, you are setting them to block back right? Don't set it to auto block or all block, Record him walking backwards. It will mimic blocking back but will not block cross ups. That's what you are trying to do, it's a cross up. When you say you don't make it, are you missing him or is he blocking?
@shadowsneak3434 you are doing it too late. s.LK is one of the best normals to use as a reset. s.LP and c.LP recover too fast, so you and up doing the Ultra way too early. Try doing it right as you hit him. also make sure you have "all block or auto block" off. Let me know.
@whosnkn Oh yeahh, it does work, but the problem is that is soo hard to pull off!! the timing its crucial!! sometimes Im too fast, sometimes Im too slow, sometimes I get it. But out of 10 times I get it right, any recommendation?? (besides praying that my opp dont block)?
For someone who had to learn the liu kang kick the hard way I think I'll try using your timing from here on out. Also I picked up Gen two months ago and he's now my third character with Makoto and Cody. I love using him because most people don't have a clue how to fight him. But I also beat two B ranked Gens consistently with my own.
@djEmk0 awesome man, gratz on your gen. Ya it's Tap..tap....tap..tap..tap..tap.taptap <- that probably doesn't explain much. Hope you keep it consistent :)
As a Gen user, you have done me alot of justice by explaining all of his useful tips and tricks, keep these videos coming and I will look forward to more content you post
@sunabozu665 I would love to do one for every character, but I don't know the ins and outs of all of them. My next big video will be in AE. I will probably do Character Specific videos on how to deal with them, and all the cool little OS's that work against them as well.
@whosnkn Yeah for sure. Someone like me who really enjoys this game, but got into the scene late, this really helps. For the past year or so I usually watch anything I can get my hands on and join in on the streams (in the chat) as much as I can trying to gain any knowledge. Having the stick on screen and seeing each hit correspond with the correct button push is innovative to say the least. Never seen anything like this before. Vesper Arcade does something similar, but this is unique.
@PainB4Glory Thank you glad you like it. I will say this. I don't claim to be the first to come up with the arcade layout. But I came up with the idea myself. Later I had come across people using it, which is fine, like I said I never claimed to come up with the idea first. However, I do think I'm the only one who's made the arcade layout as detailed as possible. All others are very basic looking, and I wanted mine to look as real as possible. Next time I might use 3DS max to make them.
@PainB4Glory I'd like to, but I really don't play other characters enough to know their combos. I guess I could look them up. I'd have to think about it. I'm going to do AE stuff for Gen, so that would take up most of my time.
This video is absolutely gorgeous in terms of video production and depth of knowledge shared. Thank you for your contribution to the SF4 community and please keep up the great work.
I gave up on Gen a long time ago, the switching between stances in mid combo is confusing at times and nomatter how fast I try to get the hands to come out after mk they never do.
@jdigitalseven That's too bad. Hope you try to pick him up in AE. Gen is probably 2nd or 3rd hardest character to learn. Viper being first, and Ibuiki up there as well with Gen. But I think Gen is a bit harder to learn.
Amazing video, simply amazing. 1 question though, is there any difference with Oga depending on what kick you use? I know EX has some throw invincibility, but is there any difference between lk, mk and hk?
@Mamjaffar Yes and no. In some combos, yes you need to hit them deep and I tried to put that, also where you are on the stage and what version of oga you use can come into factor. Especially vs certain characters. Like I said in the video you will need to play around and figure it out. In almost all gen videos they only show you so much. Nothing is "100%" when it comes to oga cross ups. You need to practice. Like I did.
@whosnkn I think you slightly misunderstood my question. ^^ My question was that does the walldive itself have different properties depending on the kick you used? Just like lp hadoken is slower than hp hadoken, is there a difference between lk oga, mk oga and hk oga?
@Mamjaffar my bad. Um LK, MK, HK have different high dives which is obvious. I believe the all three version are the same speed to, however LK might seem a bit faster than HK because LK is lower and will reach the wall first. I think EX is the only version that travels faster.
@memoguti I will add that after each section. I actually had videos made where it zooms in to the titles "Simple Links" and you couldn't see the rest of the links. they were supposed to play between each section, but I took them out because of size restrictions.
@Davezmaan I think it's hilarious that you judge a gen instructional video by how I look. Don't judge a book by it's cover. You probably think I'm some ghetto party rat. fact is, I'm not even close to that. Do I talk like some wigger? No I speak perfect English. Thanks for the troll, made my day :)
Wow, this is probably the best tutorial video I have ever seen. I'm amazed at what people can create on their computers these days - brilliant editing and annotation to say the least. I'd give this 99/100... virtually flawless. My only suggestion for any future videos would be to use a normal size character like Ryu or Ken. Seth's hitbox is so large that certain combos only work on him (and similar characters like Zangief) and are not applicable to the cast as a whole.
@shouryuuken100 Yes but if you read what I said, almost all the versions of things I was using work on everyone. Example finishing with LK Gekiro. Using LK Gekiro after gen's main punishes never whiff. So they are applicable to the whole cast. Or LP Roll, if you use HP roll it works on very few. LP never misses. There are too many factors with CHaracter select stuff. Things don't come easy, you think I had someone give me all my info? No not all of it was from the community.
@shouryuuken100 You need to work at it like I did. Even "sure hit" combos will miss if you are too far away, should i Have to put that in the video? No, you need to figure stuff out, spacing, and how deep you have to be when you jump. I tried to put as much info in as possible, but there are way too many factors that if I had it all in, it would be an hour long video. I chose seth because just like the rest of the cast, light version hit. But so do other things, that don't, & I clearly stated it
@jamheald Please subscribe. I'm going to work on that video, but once AE comes out. I'm going to put out a lot more tutorials once AE comes out. I thought I could get this one out faster than I did. But please stay tuned.
@Purplearms The point of the video was to sit and watch it bit by bit. If I had it going with all the inputs, it would be a distraction from the inputs, which go by pretty fast. I was pressed for time limit, so I had to make everything fit. This isn't an exhibition video, it's a break down video. It's meant to be stopped and started. It's not a "Look what I can do" video. It's a "This is how you do it" There are a lot of things I wish I could change. Maybe I should've made a dvd.
Classy vid, I definitely see how many hours went into making that. The visuals look excellent and are easy to understand, and the content itself is like an encyclopedia. One thing that you could adjust next time, is the sound effect for every still. This one has the tendency to go unnoticed by one and be annoying for another after a few times, because it has a sharp sound to it.
@Yrgawaltz Thanks. I wanted to keep the theme with the BGM. I tried to lower them so they were just heard enough. I even was using headphones while producing this. I apologize if it's a bit loud in certain areas. I tried to adjust it at points where the BGM was very low.
so i watched the whole vid, and i have to say this is really amazing what youve done. just the sound, hd quality, everything! this is a real + to the gen community, thanks man. uh imo, the combo breakdowns were a tad fast, that mite be a problem for some new users, although they can always rewind. and i know that u were pressed for time, but i think it would have been nice to include the u2 animations, just for visual damage. Great job! p.s. r u gona add some clips when AE hits in a few months?
Thanks bud. The thing is, it was a toss up, make them quick or long, if they were long it would make the video too long, people get too impatient. I think if they really need help with a video they would be pausing and testing. The video was 100MB smaller than my limit. which is 2 GB. and I'll do AE videos for sure. The first AE combo video won't be a break down.

@RhyllisLive Are you going to keep playing Makoto as well? I'd like to see what you end up doing with her as well.

@whosnkn
High tier is as strong as I'm willing to go. I'll play her no matter what, just not seriously if everyone agrees she's too strong.

@fuerstlustig thank you, and you are very welcome. This video was already worth it. One comment saying they like it is good enough for me.

so i watched the whole vid, and i have to say this is really amazing what youve done. just the sound, hd quality, everything! this is a real + to the gen community, thanks man. uh imo, the combo breakdowns were a tad fast, that mite be a problem for some new users, although they can always rewind. and i know that u were pressed for time, but i think it would have been nice to include the u2 animations, just for visual damage. Great job! p.s. r u gona add some clips when AE hits in a few months?

Real quality stuff, I might take a small break from Guy and work on some Gen skills.
